OT:Celtics vs Pacers

As you've been following.. does anyone take the young n gun Pacers team seriously like I've been saying.. the Cs aren't at full strength and our bench isn't at the level of Pacers. Only way we beat them is by outscoring them. I remember when the suns had Steve Nash and they were run n gun offensely.. San Antonio known as a defensive team had to out score them the beat them in the playoffs.

If someone wasn't taking the Pacers seriously, especially after their last series, they're an idiot, full stop. They have a higher PPG than the Celtics.

But we have a better defense, basically match their offense, have WAY more experience (as shown last night). If Celtics can keep up that scoring off transition, it's a beautiful thing to see. Their defense has to step up though. So many clean looks. I don't know if the Pacers were really good at setting up mismatches or what, but they need and should be able to figure it out before game 2.

I doubt it's gonna be a 5 game series, but I'd love it to be. If we had KP I'd be more confident in that. Al is old, but God I love him lol.

Spot on. That Pacers team although got some help in the first round.. showed me something during that Knicks series. They are relentless offensively. Seems like 1-5 can all hit the 3.. they can erase a lead like nothing! I believe the Cs got a taste of this version of the Pacers and will adjust.. I'd like to see us involve more of Queta and Brissett.. they are guys who can defend and offensive rebound.

It's important for us to get the 2nd home game becuase this series may go 6, possibly 7.. Pacers are an elite offensive team. We need KP back..

It looked like the Pacers just hit the wall. Just finished an intense 7 game swries qith the Knicks, just a few days prior, intense game 1 where they are flying all over the place...late game turnovers and mental mistakes due to just pure exhaustion. They didn't have anything in the tank during OT.

Meh, they won a game where some teams make excuses at the end and lose. Has to hurt Indy

That shot going in was pure luck, it even banked slightly off the glass. But better lucky than losers.
And Haliburtons “out of his butt” three’s weren’t luck?

Both teams made mistakes, and did things well. Celts showed some guts which was the thing I’ve been looking for.

Considering how good the Pacers are on offense, the most glaring deficiencies of the Celtics were defense (they could get it done mostly when it mattered, but could not keep it consistent. That start was insane and shows how good the defense can be), stupid errors like JT's turnovers, and some big shooting dry spells. Also we're without KP.

I am confident that they'll play better defense next game, they'll be a bit more consistent and it'll be a less close game. I mean the Pacers had everything going for them and we still did it.

Kornett was tough to watch. He had like 9 minutes, which was roughly 8 too many.

I wonder how different this would look if we had KP.
The C's were not only down Porzingas, but also Tillman. A very good low post defender, who is very hard to move.

Tillman will be back for game 2, and Horford will play few, but more efficient minutes.

The C's are now 7-2 in the playoffs, yet virtually EVERY media outlet just beats the crap out of them AND Tatum pointing every perceived mistake.

For example, in game 7 against Denver Ant was 6 for 26, and had a +11. And the media couldn't stop ballwashing him and setting him to be the next face of the league because he is very good AND has an infectious personality, which he does have, but it's a pretty thin narrative for a young player who just made to a conference finals for the first time

Tatum in the first game was 36/12/8 and was a +20, and was ROUNDLY criticized by most of the media for his performance.

In the end none of that means spit, but the lack of fairness just PISSES me off.

I’m a direhard Celtics fan, this thread reminds me of what you would hear on sports talk radio when they discuss the Celtics. The sports talk radio people really don’t care about ball.

Comments on this thread
1. No Jaylen’s shot didn’t hit the rim. He has made threes after up fakes a lot in his career. The shot was big, but the execution and footwork it took to not step on the line, and not be dazed by Siakim in his airspace was truly impressive. That was just lucky is the sentiment of someone who doesn’t understand.
2. For those that are complaining about the defense after watching game one. Pacers have a historically good offense and the Celtics have a top 3 defense. The Pacers are just a great offensive team. I’m not sure what was expected of the defense but it’s not very realistic.
3. Anyone who uses the term choke as the main way to describe the game is showing themselves incapable of describing it.
4. The pacers are a tough match up defensively for the C’s. With Horford’s age they don’t really have a true switch big, so they have to play drop coverage in the pick and roll. Haliburton and Turner were absolutely eating Boston up in the pnr. Watch for how the c’s defend the pick and roll in game two. I expect more blitzing, hedge and recover and even some full on traps to try and mess with the pick and roll action.

I come to Pats fan to discuss football with people who really know their stuff. Let’s hold ourselves to the same standard for basketball.

9-2* but great post, completely agree.

It has to be because Tatum is "boring."

That's me guessing but Tatum, beyond his play, doesn't give the media much to work with. He's a family guy who loves his children.

Also, if Tatum doesn't get +25 points, all media conveniently ignores his rebounding and playmaking. Something he has been improving year over year and is really good at.

I think you may have only read the first post because everything I've seen has discussed how good the Pacers are and how the team got their wins at the most crucial times haha.

I do appreciate you breaking down how Pacers were creating their looks, I was asking earlier how they were getting so much space.

Also my guess as to why ESPN has been so negative is to build up the Pacers. The more the national audience believes this will be a dramatic close series, the more eyes they will get when they broadcast the game

Game one was a great result for them

I think first and foremost it’s because he’s the top Boston athlete. People outside of New England hate the Boston teams and their fans.

It used to be Brady, now it’s Tatum.

Their pace creates some space. The pacers did a good job having off ball shooters cut weak side before the screen was set so that there is was no strong side help defense available. Haliburton is also great at creating a space with his step back. He would create one step of distance with the pick and roll then turn it into 2-3 with his step back 3’s.
