several teams last few years (Ravens, Bills, Jax, Vikings, Packers) I believe they give teams the option of a bye week after London
Wow. It that is true, it seems a Week 8 bye would be better than Week 14

Looking at the odds if you really believe the Patriots will win at least five games this year and have 1700 to spare then bet $100 on every game. The worst result with the odds are you end up ahead $50.00 with some of the odds you could end up much higher. If they only win four games you lose about $300.00.

If they win more than five you could really make out with the current odds. Talk about a gamble.

And how was their Defense?
Ours might be better which would be helpful in winning games
Precisely. And looking at the preseason lines for the Patriots, there are some pretty big ones there in favor of the opponents. I'd say load upon the Patriots to cover a bunch of games that will be closer than the wise guys think four months before the roster is set.

Our defense should be good, our weapons have improved, our QB situation should be better, our OL has more depth and should be better, and our offensive coaching appears to be better. So we should be a more solid product all around.

But one thing we have no feel for is how good will Mayo be? Making final calls on who gets cut. Installing a game plan each week. Preparing the team for situational football, avoiding penalties, conditioning, morale. In game coaching, clock management, challenges, when to go for it on 4th, when to kick the FG.

If he performs at a high level, then we should see a much better football team.

I am on the program that @Fuzz outlined: top D and average O gets you a good team. I don't think they'll be a playoff team, but I do look for an Antonio Pierce type of honeymoon with the team. I think they'll probably be .500.

Ish.

There are two post-Brady rebuilds. The BB one and now the new Mayo one.
They will be far better than last season. Last season was like trying to hold on to a old Cadillac with transmission problems. Was a matter of time before it went.

Bill wouldn’t have been a lame duck coach if he was winning. Mac was a problem, but he was a convenient excuse to ignore other problems. WR and TE were an issue before Mac was ever on the team. The line has been shakey and lacking depth since 2019.

This is what happens when you botch a rebuild. It gets extended. It can absolutely get lower. The Browns went 1-15 and then went 0-16. Not saying that won’t happen, but I could very easily seeing us being within 2 or 3 games either way of last seasons record.

It’s a new era also means growing pains. Even Bill had it his first year.
Absolutely agree. Wich as a fan was so frustrating to watch beucase we saw hope Mac's first season, his second season the setup with coaching didn't have to happen. However I don't see us loosing to the tune of 1 win, or a 2 win team. This team is already better than last year's team by simply upgrading the QB position. We all watched each game and saw what is was.. it was an accomplishment to move the ball across the 50 last season. The defense was on the field more than the offense last season, the skill positions are upgraded. Finally addressing the 3rd down back, catch out the back field position. There is alot to look forward to next season and going forward.

They chose NOT to have a bye after the London game. Why?

Cincinnati has been slow starters the last couple years so if there is ever a good time to face them its early on (aside from whenever burrow gets hurt of course). Only problem is we have been slower starters
Agreed. We'll your right on that. We've been slow starting the last 2 seasons particularly. Yeah burrow got hurt in camp last season and came back to early where they struggled. I'm not convinced his arm is 100%.. so wait until Barmore or Jennings hits him and he falls on it we'll see right away. I just believe Drake will be leading this team week 1.. this kid feels special to me.

17-0, Maye will throw for 8,000 yards and 78 TD... Wait, this isn't the homer thread, sorry

A Star Trek quote in your signature? You rule the school.

As for everybody glowing over our defense.... how hard do you think teams were trying most of the year against us? I just don't feel the same confidence.

I'd like to see the mathematics and the odds behind the above statement..... respectfully, I have a pretty strong suspicion that it doesn't work out quite the way you think it does....

The Pats are 1.5 point favorites at home vs. Houston but 2.5 point underdogs at home vs. Indianapolis.
Just saying.

I forgot that it is the spread you are betting on. I was thinking it was the odds of winning or losing only. Sorry my math won't work out because you have to account for the point spread. I'm getting too old for this.

Looks like the team is gonna get smashed this year. Look forward to watching individual player development.

Let's check out LTs, WRs, and TEs in the 2025 draft

I don't have high hopes for wins this year, but we really have no idea how this season will go or what this team will look like.
Almost everything is starting from scratch.
We may get a sense in preseason if we're a complete disaster or will at least be competitive.

But we have NO idea if Mayo will cost us several games because he's never had to manage the clock, high-pressure decisions, whether to punt, or go for 4th, etc... And, we assume the D will be as it has been, but Mayo didn't call plays, let alone Covington.

I'm curious if the O will be more organized than usual at the start, because AVP is very experienced, and so is Brissett.

It's a brave new world for these Pats fans who have only experienced TFB and BB. It's going to be a wild ride for sure.
