Bruins 2024 playoffs

It was a bad call on the Bruins just like last game on the 4:00 minute penalty for crashing into Bobrovsky.

Dumbass Montgomery should not challenge the goal not knowing the rules. The only way they can overturn the goal is if a penalty for cross checking was called. There wasnt. There should have been. If thats the way that is, you cant play stupid on top of playing bad.

Humpty has no control over his team when they commit stupid penalty after stupid penalty giving Florida power plays. Florida took the punches to the face and didnt fight back letting Boston self destruct. The Bruins came out hitting setting the tone and then stopped.

Humpty had better players last year and still lost.
our ability to have nicknames for everyone is underrated. "Humpty"...lol, that kills me

There seems to be stretches where they are competitive, but it's not for the full game. I thought they played well in game 1 this series and in the Leafs series. Beyond that, they've been dead legged more often than not. I truly think it's a conditioning thing.
agree...not for a full game. Last night in the first period i was thinking "ok, they got the jump on them and look good". Then in the 3rd period, i was thinking "oh god, what is going on". Cant seem to put a full game together

Definitely paying the price for coming up short after going all in last year and conditioning is indeed part of that. Losing Bergeron, Krecji and Hall really hurt this team's transition game and their slot presence in both ends. Now that it's crunch time it really shows. Playing a highly disciplined system got them through the regular season fairly well but now that it's time to elevate they just don't have the horses in the barn to get it done. Hockey players build to their TOI over the course of years of playing. Expecting Coyle and Zacha to take the place of Bertgeron and Krecji was a huge ask but team wise just as telling they then needed lesser players to fill their previous minutes on the 3rd & 4th lines. By the time May rolls around there's half a team of players pulling more TOI (and being asked to do more) than they ever have before and there's just not enough in the collective tank. In going all in last year this team did what we wanted as fans, they were too close not to go the extra mile. Unfortunately Bergeron, Krecji, McAvoy and Hall were all too beat up at playoff time to pull off a ring. Credit to the front office for trying last year at least but the bitter fruit of that failed attempt is what we're harvesting now.

Maroon and JVR are savvy veteran gamers and they're giving it all they have but they simply no longer have the legs and what they have in experience just isn't enough to make up for it. The cap space wasn't there to do anythng but try with the retread types though. I also suspect McAvoy is playing through one or more limiting injuries as is Lindholm. In particular McAvoy's burst is noticeably lacking and with the minutes he eats that gets worse as the game goes on.
Maroon has been our best player (other than Sway) and noticeable when he is on the ice...and that is not a good thing. Beecher and Brez have been really good for being so young, but our best players have to be the best players.

I really had a deep appreciation for the Florida hockey team heading into the season and especially the playoffs, but they are reminding me (with their overreaction to hits and acting) of the Canadiens from days gone by. The refs fall for it over and over again. Lindholm's interference call was pretty cheap, the Florida player sold it (i.e. embellished) and it you call Lindholm you have to call a minor on Florida guy. That call could be made on almost any net front battle. I know technically it wasn't a net front battle, but it had no impact on the play and with all the contact they let go, I felt it was a cheap call. Goalie Interference was obvious especially when one considers all the ticky tack G.I. calls made during the regular season for the last few years.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the game until the refs decided to be part of the game. Florida has shown to be the better team, so I'm not too bothered by the outcome, just annoyed by the refs last night and will be looking for a new second team to pull for to win The Cup (Still hoping the B's pull off a miracle). Although I reserve the right to change my mind and root for Paul Maurice to finally win a Cup...very likeable guy.

Maroon looks like he should be on the show Moonshiners with his crewcut/mullet.

Maroon needs to knock Bennet's teeth out.

Just do it next game 1st period.

Maroon's comments:
"I'm sure everyone's wondering why I haven't done anything. I'll sit here and say it's not like I haven't tried or that I don't want to do anything. I love my captain. I love the guys. I think, trust me, it's a tough business, and everyone's looking at me to do something. And, unfortunately, I try. I am trying, and we can't really focus on that. It's over. It's done with. We gotta focus on winning a hockey game, though."

I can deal with being down 3-1 but getting thoroughly outplayed, out-shot, outmuscled, out-tuffed, out-mind-gamed is brutal.

How do you bring him back next season?
you cant IMO. I think he mismanaged the roster in last years playoffs and he is doing it again this year. Sway has been good in net and has made some unreal saves, but you cant start him every game. Everyone was saying he owned Toronto...but it went 7 games. He has given up a lot of goals against Florida too. Now, the D has been pretty bad in front of him so not all on him. I kind of like how the young guys are handling themselves but the rest of the team is a bunch of 3rd line guys and are not producing. Cant figure how this team steam rolls everyone in the regular season and then flops in the playoffs 2 years in a row.

one thing the Bruins have been known for throughout the years is their toughness. Not so much any more

Against Toronto in 6 games Swayman had a .949 save %, a 1.5 GAA and never gave up more han 2 goals in a game. In his 2 losses the Bruins managed one goal in each game. That series went 7 because the B's struggled scoring, not because of goaltending. Given the way Ullmark played against FL in the regular season I think many of us wouldn't have been surprised by a return to the rotation but how do you go away from a guy that's put up those numbers? Tough call to make.

This year's Bruins just don't have the lineup to make a deep playoff run in a Conference that includes Florida, the Canes and the Rangers. That doesn't take away the suck of seeing them consistently get beat on the forecheck and off the boards though, it's tough watching our team get outplayed to that extent. Doesn't help the watch any when Bennett and Tkachuk are getting away with murder either. Maybe Montgomery is the right coach for Boston and maybe he isn't but it's not a fair judgement to make given the roster he was handed this year.

They'll have ~$30m in cap space to play with this offseason. No excuses not to upgrade the roster with the right players.

Not sure Monty is the right coach but i'm starting to become sure this is a marshmallow of a team.

I don't know if I'd go all the way to 'marshmallow' after they led the league in hits per game but they are certainly soft on offensive talent. They're particularly weak down the middle and it shows nightly. As a center Coyle is strong on the puck but not particularly great at manufacturing offense. That's okay in a 3C but in a 1??? A recipe for disaster. Don't get me wrong, every team needs Coyle types but as a 3 not a 1. This team lost 2 legendary playoff centers in Bergie and Krecji and it shows big time. That's hardly its only area of deficiency but the retooling has to start there.

Curious where you're getting the $30M number from. Most everything I've seen has them between $21.5-24M and half of that is predicated on not re-signing DeBrusk and Griz, both of whom would probably benefit from a change of scenery.

Best win in years.

They're the least talented team still standing in the East so yeah, a very satisfying gut check win without their captain/best playoff performer. I know they don't have the talent to go to The Stanley Cup Finals but it matters to me as a fan of the laundry they didn't go quietly.

Imagine landing Reinhart as a FA? Him centering Pasta... that'd be a nightly hockeygasm.
Never happen, Utah, San Jose and Chicago have twice the cap space Boston does and all have serious incentives to get him but damn. Those two at the top of the lineup with this still young defensive group and goaltending, they'd be contenders for the next 6-8 years.
Ah well, it doesn't cost a dime to dream.

Eh...I almost feel as though it would be better if game 6 weren't at home. For whatever reason through the years, there is zero advantage at TD Garden.

Florida looked like the Bruins and vice a versa.

Swayman is back in form. I thought that the winning goal was coming back.
