Pats players you’ve given up on vs players you still have hope for

I agree with most of the board in having given up on Thornton and JuJu. If either of those bums see the field in 2024, it means something went really, really wrong with our draft class.

I have hope for Boutte, if only because I see higher upside in him than Osborn.

I still have hope for Strange, but as a long term replacement for Andrews rather than as a LG.

Like Harry, I gave up on them the first training camp. I absolutely hated the Williams pick because it was unnecessary with them already being 4-5 CB's deep.

To add insult to injury: Billy & Lucky Nicky traded UP for that ****ing stiff. I mean that **** was Glitch Richards bad, man.

While the Jordan Richards was an all time bad pick, the Williams pick for me was the worst for me because of the situation they were in. They needed a really good draft to keep that window cracked open and taking another DB in the 2nd round was a horrible use of resources when the WR draft class was touted as the best in a very long time. Ras IR Dowling comes in a close 2nd as my most hated pick.

I also hated the Damien Harris pick. Not because of his ability, but because they were in dire need of playmakers at WR and TE and they burned a 1st round pick on Michel just one year prior. Harris had 4 rushing attempts in 2019.

Yeah that 2019 draft was wire-to-wire, real-time bad, though you wouldn't have known it from some here back then... And I actually liked the Harry pick or, more accurately, the idea of the Harry pick... That was the last night I ever wore my IBIT hat; I already had it off, for good, after Day 2.

It's sad to give up on talented draft picks, but there's a new crop of potential every year. If you didn't break through in your first 2 or 3 years, you rarely get more time to prove it. Sure, guys like T.Brown & Bruschi became superstars after struggling on ST for a few years. But it's rare these days. TT and Boutte will be gone. Too much competition at WR this year.

If Dawghouse Bourne has to start the season on PUP, then one of those two still might have a chance... Certainly not both though.

I have less than 1% of hope any of those guys are major contributors

Teach Tyquan combat techniques. He has to learn to fight back and handle bigger players when he runs. Maybe make the team this year?

A horrible trade for a horrible football player and human being. Thanks (again) Billy!
Throughout his career, he was that guy who would do his karate kick celebrations after a play he had no effect on.

Boutte
Lowe
Schuster
Thornton
Wheatley
I may have to rethink my giving up on Boutte and Thornton if they continue this trend. I could swap them out for Zappe and Roberts.

It's funny seeing posters comments about TT back in May...and seeing posters comments about him NOW.
He has really torn this camp up so far.
Yeah,it's only preseason but he's been one of, if not the best Pats wr in camp and that includes padded practices.
I was right there with @captainstone
and you about Boney T last May but damn if he ain't finally showed a little sumpin. I know, I know. None of us wanna get sucked in...again. Lol
We all wanted to believe because we know how much a decent speedy wr would help our team. Been a looooooooong time.
So yeah, fool me once, Boney T....
But **** cmon man you can do this!!

And that’s exactly what’s going to happen…he’s going to shine all the way to the 1st regular season game where he will dive for a catch and proceed to break his whatever. I do hope he makes the team and contributes.

I laugh not out of mirth but because I know that's exactly what's gonna happen

There are only two that I’ve completely written off:
Tyquan Thornton
Juju Smith-Schuster

And there’s one I’ve moved on from as far as wanting to see as a Patriot:
Bailey Zappe

TT was a project when drafted, and has not shown any significant progress since. We need to focus on newcomers with more potential, and Twig’s potential is diminished by his lack of progress so far.

Juju is damaged goods. Old enough to be past his ascending arc, and knees that are used up.

I’m still a fan of Zappe but he is never going to be better than an acceptable backup, and we have others who can fill that role with additional upside potential.

The others discussed in this thread are still not well enough known to tell. I’ll wait and see how they fare in preseason work and through camp.
I’ve got to say that Thornton has turned me around. Still not sure I am convinced he should make the 53 but I’m convinced he’s in the competition, and should be.

OTOH Juju has convinced me he’s past his prime.

I still like Zappe as a fan, but he’s #4 in the QB depth chart at the moment, and nothing suggests he will turn it around while everyth8ng seems to suggest Milton will continue to surpass him.
