Interesting topic.

Not a bad list. I haven’t given up on Strange yet but right now with the injuries he’s on the path to being a less talented Isaiah Wynn.

Not sure if Baringer should be on any list like this. “Not given up yet” means you expect better and he’s been good.

JJSS is on the given up list for me as is Thornton. Bad signing and a bad pick by the former regime.

Boutte won’t be on the roster in September.

Have not given up on Cole Strange ... health and he is his best in a zone blocking scheme.
Agree on Mafi ... Baringer was top 10 this year why is he on the list?
Ryland we may be stuck with for a while however he actually can help us with draft position.
Everyone else uphill battle is steep ... Thornton is to dumb too play in the league Boutte's attitude sucks.

Have not given up on Thornton, Boutte
Want to see with a proper OC,
Not given up on Strange just needs to get healthy.

I’ve checked out on TT and JSS. KN was someone I’d been rooting really hard for it to work out but I don’t see that happening with the off field stuff, unfortunately.

I’m not out on Strange, although the injuries are concerning.

Zappe is what he is. He’d make a serviceable backup and would be fine if the team was in a different condition. But they have two young QBs with significantly more upside as well as a reliable veteran right now, so the writing is on the wall for him.

Given up on boutte, Thornton, lowe.

Wheatley is almost there but i truly haven’t seen too much of him. Zappe I think can be a capable backup qb. If he can go 4-4 with the trash teams he was on he could probably manage a decent record if needed in relief on a good team.

Was not really expecting a thing from Lowe, Wheatley and Boutte.
Still not willing to give up totally on Ryland, Baringer, Anderson, Mafi and Strange
JJSS needs to move on. Zappe as well

Giving up on Strange, but not Thornton, Juju, Mafi seems… odd.

Almost seems like this guy is still just angry about the pick. But he’s played well at times when he’s been healthy.

There are only two that I’ve completely written off:
Tyquan Thornton
Juju Smith-Schuster

And there’s one I’ve moved on from as far as wanting to see as a Patriot:
Bailey Zappe

TT was a project when drafted, and has not shown any significant progress since. We need to focus on newcomers with more potential, and Twig’s potential is diminished by his lack of progress so far.

Juju is damaged goods. Old enough to be past his ascending arc, and knees that are used up.

I’m still a fan of Zappe but he is never going to be better than an acceptable backup, and we have others who can fill that role with additional upside potential.

The others discussed in this thread are still not well enough known to tell. I’ll wait and see how they fare in preseason work and through camp.

I have not given up on Chad Ryland.- He has a huge leg and rookie Ks common have a tough first year

Tyquan Thornton- he put on some muscle and his speed is real...I would give him 1 more year

Cole Strange- I want to see him when he is healthy for at least 8 games

I have given up a long time ago on:

BAILEY ZAPPE- I want him gone. I have PTSD when I watch him
Kayshon Boutte- nothing special about him, not an intuitive or smart player, he needs to be gone to thin out the herd

No idea why Baringer is on list- he had a very good rookie year

It’s a short list. Bailey Zappe and Boutte. I’m sure Zappe is a nice guy, but he’s not an NFL QB. Boutte thinks he’s as good as everyone in high school told him he was.

There are a number of players on the bubble, most notably JuJu and Thornton, but they are at least worth bringing to camp to see if they can make the team, and I hate the dead money hit Schuster brings with a release. At least they can split it over 2 years if they wait until after June to release him. I doubt they can trade either.

Hard to argue with your list as it's perfect IMO.

Here's what I'm waiting to see:

Will juju come into camp healthy and ready to compete and justify the salary.

Will Tyquan finally show more than flashes and remain healthy

Will strange remain healthy

Boutte is more of a maturity issue than talent, I'd be willing to allow him some more time.

I just think Juju’s legs are toast. The injuries have mounted up for him, he’s not the same guy anymore.

I could see Thornton latching on elsewhere as a gadget type player with his speed, but I’m just not seeing it here. His build is too thin.

One more I haven’t seen mentioned: Shaun Wade.
