Pats players you’ve given up on vs players you still have hope for

The thing with boutte is how utterly useless hes been in games even when hes gotten a show of faith. Shows me its more than a maturity thing. If theres a way to ir him or something in case someone sees reason to give him a further look thats fine but i don’t see any way he should make it to the 53
Yeah agree. On his ability had his feet been in bounds we likely win that game against eagles. He showed ability seen as how he was out there as a rookie week 1 while juju was on the side lines.. Hopefully Slater can work with him and allow to grow as a player and become an impact player here or even elsewhere.

BOURNE, DOUGLAS, POLK and BAKER are going nowhere.
========
OSBORNE is very likely a lock. We guaranteed over $3M for this year so that can play him. Perhaps he is our #1, or perhaps our #5. To be clear, the team had a plan when they signed Osborne. They knew that Bourne and Douglas were coming back. And staff certainly expect to sign or draft 2 additional WR's. And, as injury insurance, we had Reagor and Thornton.

I don't see how ju-ju was ever in the 2024 plans.
=======
You want me to ignore injuries. OK, then I don't think that anyone else will make the roster. Personally, I think that Thornton will be traded. 2yr/$3M is Ok for someone to give him a try. If Bourne is on the PUP list, I could see Thornton being his replacement on the roster if he isn't traded.
======
REAGOR
He could make the team as a KR, although I doubt it. I think that we are fine with Jones and Bolden.

Ju-Ju
He may or may not be better than one of the 5 roster players. We're aiming for the future. I see ZERO reason for keeping him. Do we really want to have Douglas inactive so that we can play Ju-ju in his position as a slot receiver?

It is simply time to move on. Our cap money will be $2M less after he is gone, unless we get someone to pay $2M of his 2024 salary in which case there is no increase in cap charges.
On paper I agree with everything you said and my expectations also meet what your saying. That said no one in this group is so good that a healthy Juju can't be better or that if Thornton actually steps that they can't wind up better and on the roster. I don't expect Juju's health to return to a few years ago and TT has shown nothing so far so there's a decent chance neither make the team.

What evidence does anyone have that Strange is injury prone?

Agreed, as Chung was asked to play FS and he's a strong safety. He even said before he Agreed to return he asked Bill what would be different this time.
That situation reminds me of Mapu right now playing S. His reaction time is not adequate for the position and he will be a massive bust if he stays there.

Missed time with 3 significant knee injuries last summer and last season. Makes me wonder if he was being asked to do something he couldn't physically handle.

Yes. Although he played well late last season.. he's a hybrid really.. he needs to be around the LOS, a spy on running QBs, and handling RBs out the backfield that's his strength.

Agreed. It's likely that TT does something this season than Juju being healthy.. it's a shame because he's only 28 and in the prime of his career.. when he was healthy enough to play I don't think I've ever seen a #1 WR have so many 2/25 production games..

interesting thread
I have not given up on Thornton or Boutte. I have given up on JuJu.
I have given up on Stueber and Wheatley, not Lowe.
Certainly willing to see what Zappe shows over the summer compared to Milton, but if everyone in the room is healthy, I keep Milton and put Zap on the PS.
Rhyland was too talented to give up on after 1 season.

Makes me think of Trevor Matich, the overaged rookie we got in the trade for Jerry Rice.

Trevor had a very forgettable career.

I ju-ju shows in camp that he is ready to play, I will celebrate the pick and cap savings that we will get from a trade.

Zappe QB1

Baringer is fine. He's was a good rookie punter, so I expect him to improve things this year.

I mean it is hard for me to "give up" on any of them really.

Players I would be surprised if they turned out to be real contributors:
Mapu
Jake Andrews
Juju
Strange
Ryland

Players I would be shocked if they turned out to be real contributors (aka not sure if they will even make the opening day roster):
Thornton
Boutte
Lowe
Wheatley

Didn't even bother to list Zappe because I think he is cut/traded before training camp.

I can agree with mapu I believe he's primed to have a future here.. he's a hybrid really.. not a safety, but also not a linebacker.. with his speed and athletic ability he's best around the LOS, as a spy on running QB's and running backs out the backfield.

I am hoping he plays more in a LB role and less in a safety role. They looked like they used him more in the secondary in the limited snaps he played and he looked out of place.

Why would we only carry 3 QB's in camp?

Are we really ready for Milton to be the starter if Brissette in injured in camp? or Maye?

How would Milton be the starter? Brissett and Maye would both have to get hurt and at that point I would assume they would just bring in another veteran if they couldn't bring Zappe back. Brissett is the veteran mentor and likely the day one starter. Maye is the future franchise QB who will get out there at some point. Milton is the long term project they hope develops. Zappe is a nothing in the equation..

Sure, considering we are in a rebuild.

Brissett started a game his rookie year when Brady was suspended and Garrapolo spit the bit.

I think that Brissett was much more ready than Milton.
