What ever happened to best player available philosophy?
You mean the philosophy you absolutely hated last year at this time?

Might want to look out after suggesting that OL. I got blasted in another thread for suggesting this exact OL combination. Just giving you a heads upLT (to be determined)-Sow-Strange-Onwenu-Caedan Wallace
That may work well. Good running on that right side. Chuks Okorafor certainly has nfl talent and looks the part. Holding out hope he can excel as LT. He may be motivated to do well there.
With Joe Milton as QB does it really matter? Defenders will bounce off him like he’s a Marvel superhero.
Fun and interesting times back at Foxboro?
I think Mafi is definitely an endangered specie. Sow has to have a second year jump in pass blocking. Strange may be an injury concern. We complained a lot about tackles last year but at the end of the year the interior was a concern.
Also makes for a competitive group guys competing for spots that's how Teams become good.Mayo made a comment about this pick which seemed telling. A reporter asked why they drafted a guard highly when they seem to have already invested a number of picks in recent years in guys who are playing guard, it doesn’t seem like a need.
Mayo responded that several of those players who were drafted previously and are playing guard now have positional flexibility and could move to another position which would create a need at guard.
IMO this could mean:
- Strange at center or tackle
- Mafi at center
- Sow at tackle
- Onwenu back to guard if another player takes over at right tackle
A lot of moving parts there. Will have to see what permutations they try in camp.
In the above video, on the second rep the defensive player would've pushed him right into the QB's lap.The man protects his QB, very few pressures or sacks allowed.
Patriots select guard Layden Robinson with No. 103 pick in 2024 draft
The New England Patriots have selected offensive guard Layden Robinson in the 2024 NFL Draft, committing to protecting new QB Drake Maye.sports.yahoo.com
A lot of scouts are saying he takes plays off, but I really am not judging him on whether he's a reach or not. I'm judging this pick based on whether we should have gone for this position at the 100th pick of the draft.People are complaining because the “ draft analysts” had others rated higher, but between them Wallace allowed 4 sacks last year, against top competition, and Robinson allowed 1. And both have exactly the attitude and demeanor you want in your OL. I won’t be surprised if both end up as starters.
That happens to a lot of Guards including First Rounder Strange Cole what's your point??In the above video, on the second rep the defensive player would've pushed him right into the QB's lap.
Not entirely true. He had below average pass blocking grades, but his run blocking grades have been amongst the best in the league in terms of OGs.Even when Strange was healthy he wasn't very good.
I understand, but I was reacting to the posts about his sack and pressure rates. Those were microscopic, but in that drill he gets easily overpowered one out of two times, which aligns with his physical traits. The implication is that in the NFL, he will get beat or overpowered a lot. I know that's a lot to infer from such a small sample size, but in the context of the rates mentioned above, it's worth pointing out. Cole Strange is an average guard, right? That happens to a lot of Guards including First Rounder Strange Cole what's your point??
Point taken He'll have time to get Stronger Siddy Sow is ahead of him.I understand, but I was reacting to the posts about his sack and pressure rates. You can say I'm jumping to a conclusion from a tiny sample size, and you are correct. But his physical traits indicate to me that he'll have issues in the NFL.
Patriots restock the OL with big athletic guard Layden Robinson from Texas A&M.
6'3 1/2" 302 lbs with long 34 5/8" arms.
Scouting report:
2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Texas A&M OG Layden Robinson
From now until the 2023 NFL Draft, we will scout and create profiles for as many prospects as possible, examining their strengths, weaknesses, and what they can bring to an NFL franchise. These players could be potential top-10 picks, all the way down to Day 3 selections, and priority undrafted...steelersdepot.com
Calm down chief. He's not a 350 lbs road grader by any means. But 34 5'8" arms is freakishly long for an OL.6’3-1/2” & 305 is not that “big” by NFL OL standards.
They had all ****ing night to think about this pick… EXACT same start to Day 3 as the previous, justifiably ****-canned grocery-shopper had last year…
Meet the New boss; same as the Old boss.
And riddle me this, BluntMan: On Friday, Wolfie chose someone who NEVER played Left Tackle in college… On Saturday, with his Very First Pick that day, he chose someone who, if he even makes the 53, will more likely than not have to be a Right Guard Only in the NFL… Meanwhile, during the offseason, the club re-signed Mike Onwenu to a big extension to play RIGHT TACKLE AND RIGHT GUARD for them…
Exactly Whatthe**** am I missing here?
One of them could also be moving to the middle
