DRAFT 2024 4th Round Pick - G Layden Robinson

SEC player who excelled. Like it. But it’s sad that last year we invested in three interior OLineman. And now this.

P8ryts nailed it. Strange’s injury is now a red flag and Mafi doesn’t have the coaches’ confidence
This is where I'm at. LG is an issue. Strange sadly might well be damaged goods. And when he was out, nobody on the roster could come even remotely close to stabilizing the LG spot last season.

I think Mafi is definitely an endangered specie. Sow has to have a second year jump in pass blocking. Strange may be an injury concern. We complained a lot about tackles last year but at the end of the year the interior was a concern.
Even when Strange was healthy he wasn't very good.

I just hope this guy can play LG or we may have a logjam at RG. If Wallace has to play RT, that moves Onwenu to RG. Then there is Sow, also a RG.

That Strange pick is looking worse.
But as Bill said tell me when a player will get hurt and i won’t play them on that snap.

right.

Consider the right side being under solid control with Sow, Onwenu and Robinson.

Sure, we need to add a top LT next year.

The almost unspoken issue is at LEFT GUARD.

I don't see it as a problem that it is taking 3 years to rehabilitate the OL.
YEAR ONE: Sow, Andrews and Mafi (2 keepers)
YEAR TWO: Wallace, Robinson (and one year bridge in Okorafor) Hopefully the draftees are keepers, but we could extend Okorafor if needed.
YEAR THREE: a LT probably plus one more addition and/or another one-year bridge.

If anything this feels more like they don’t have much faith in Stange, Sow, Mafi…which may be entirely warranted.

I'd like to hope that Sow is a lock starter. Maybe more of a Strange (hurt), Mafi or Jake Andrews replacement?

This is a very Belichick like draft so far, l can’t complain because I can’t pretend to know these guys at all, but at the very least they’re drafting for need, just gotta hope they hit
I think there's a 0% chance of Belichick passing on T'Vondre Sweat to draft Ja'Lynn Polk...

Sweat will be anchoring a defensive line for the next ten years...

Polk is a pretty good receiver who's closest NFL comp is Kendrick Bourne...

Looks like the Pats are trying to increase the depth at IOL. This also might be an indictment on Cole Strange. He's been very injury prone since he's been drafted.

There might be some shuffling of the guys along the line as well. We'll just have to wait and see who earn those starting spots in training camp.

What a steal.

Wolfe has no imagination, boldness or guts.
He is in play it safe mode which will result in this team not being any better than last year.
People look at position and think we need this so it was good. Outside of the first pick, this definitely reminds me of your typical BB draft choices up to here except all offense instead of defense. The later picks were different.

That said he has the size and experience that I like.

For every draft pick, there is always one talking head you can find who will come out and say the pick is the steal of the draft
Riddick is a good one though. He is very analytical and rational with his opinions.

Mayo made a comment about this pick which seemed telling. A reporter asked why they drafted a guard highly when they seem to have already invested a number of picks in recent years in guys who are playing guard, it doesn’t seem like a need.

Mayo responded that several of those players who were drafted previously and are playing guard now have positional flexibility and could move to another position which would create a need at guard.

IMO this could mean:
- Strange at center or tackle
- Mafi at center
- Sow at tackle
- Onwenu back to guard if another player takes over at right tackle

A lot of moving parts there. Will have to see what permutations they try in camp.
