Agreed. As Curran mentioned on TV, Mayo is the HC with roster imput, working collectively with wolf. Both men report to RKK. Wolf has final say on roster transactions.. but I believe Mayo controls who plays, and who doesn't as he is the HC of course..

I think that too, but when they get into conflict, that's when it's going to get interesting.

A weird sentiment, given a lot of big names haven't signed anywhere else yet either. If the Patriots were some kind of anomaly here, surely these complaining players would already have deals with the "nice" teams.

That's why I'm glad they concentrated on signing their own FAs yesterday, and picking up reasonable replacements for Zeke, Mac, and Wilson. Usually on Day 1 you see teams over reaching with ridiculous contracts. We saw it yesterday from several teams. We saw it in '21 from the Pats.

Wolf managed to extend Onwenu, Henry, Bourne; sign Brissett, Gibson, TakiTaki, and Chubacka; tag Dugger, trade Mac, cut Parker, and they still have 50-70M. That's 10+ solid transactions at extremely reasonable costs, that held the best weapons they had on Offense, dumped the worse, and replaced or upgraded on others. I think he's doing just fine. No panic. No emotion. He needs to finish this by upgrading the weapons for WR, LT, FS, and other D positions.

I wasn’t happy with Brown’s attitude last season. Keeping isn’t ideal, but there are no ideal options. Since the coaches he had a problem with are gone, I’d try to mend fences and re-sign him. I doubt he gets much money considering his history. He’s a solid left tackle when he makes the effort. Maybe add some incentives.

I think we are better moving away from Brown.

Yeah, I get the sense that the Patriots are the highest bidder but not by a huge amount, and the terms of the deals don't have the level of guarantees that the top free agents hoped for. Like @Steve102 said, agents likely expected they could take advantage of "the new regime" and hoodwink them for big money, and are surprised to discover that Eliot Wolf isn't falling for that ****.

I know I am in the minority on this player, but it feels like he has a lot of baggage. I think there's reason he's got a limited market.

I think Belichick was always very good with cap management, almost too good. He was very hesitant to use things like void years or backloaded deals, which can hurt you long-term if overused but can also pinch you in the short-term if not used at all. But in general I think he did a very good job with getting guys for good value and rarely overpaying, obviously with some exceptions. The problem, as it was with drafting, was the guys being chosen to be signed and the overall roster construction.

It sounds like the overall fiscal strategy probably hasn't changed much, even if the future vision for the roster has. And that's a good thing IMO, as long as they can be just a little more modern-day in their contract structure.

True, but there are lots of ways to spend money that don't involve overpaying for a free agent. You can make a trade, extend/restructure your current guys to free up room next year, make a higher volume of middle class signings, etc. It doesn't help the team to spend for the sake of spending, they should still be smart about it. Of course, it would ALSO be smart to get some bigger name free agents to fill positions of need, you just have to successfully identify which of those guys is worth it.

Or agents are trying to leverage the pats and their cap position to set the market at an artificially higher rate. Just because you can afford to buy a $50 cheeseburger doesn't mean you should.

Damn I really liked Mooney. This is a good deal for them. I think he'll be great with Cousins in their new McVay offense.
