Bourne: Locker room was kind of a toxic place the last 2 years

#IJWT

First he says: "It was kind of a toxic place". Then he says later: "It's a great environment for a person like me".

Some of these players get caught up in being too PC, but just end up contradicting themselves.

Mike McDaniel could reach out to him as he is familiar with him during their time in SF. He would be a great fit there and fill the role he did in SF patrolling the middle of the field and moving the sticks on 3rd down. They need someone to do the dirty work in the middle of the field.
hey, don't give them any ideas!

He’s pry seen enough Alabama QBs for a lifetime.

This is it. Whatever other people think, it’s plain and obvious that the players are psyched for Mayo as HC.
Hope
Free agency shows players excited to come to the Pats.

Dude was one of the only players to actually contribute. Bring him back. They can perform miracles now with physical therapy and rehab.

Brady said Mayo will do a great job and he pointed out he does a great job relating to everyone in the locker room.

Reading between the lines that sounds like that’s something the locker room hasn’t had in a while.

Underrated issue is that how TF is a 71 year old man going to relate to 20-something athletes?

Like it or not, players have more leverage than ever…gotta be able to build rapport with them.

Bills system worked for years, probably longer than most but things change, and it was time for the Pats to change. Thanks, Bill, for 24 years but it's on to Mayo and hopefully he brings us back into contention.

It's not about liking, but I hope he goes elsewhere.

Bourne is careless with the ball, drops passes, and was the poster person for unhappy players. And even though he's an NFL receiver, Bourne is nothing special.

Unless Bourne is coming back on a prove it to me deal, a change of scenery is best for everyone.

He had 1 dropped pass on 55 targets in 2023.
He had 4 in 2022 when everyone had issues including Jakobi Meyers who had 4 that year.
He had 2 in 2021.

Where the hell do you get that he's the poster person for "unhappy players"? Because he knew and understood the Shanahan offense better than Patricia and Patricia doghoused him?

I actually watched the 2021 season. When Bourne was on the field, the offense did good things. When he wasn't, the offense was mediocre.
Bourne is a Catalyst-type player. Used properly, he will ignite an offense.

IMHO Kendrick Bourne was part of the toxic atmosphere. First week of training camp he was complaining about Patricia. Instead of accepting the offensive changes, he implied the coaches were a problem. For a guy that flashes but can't stay healthy or keep his mouth shut, he wouldn't be high on my list.

This is the 2020's and players are more vocal when they see something wrong and MP was bad. Very bad. Patricia's my way or the highway style, coming from a DC turned OC, might have been the problem.

Bourne has averaged 487 yards and 3 TD's per season over 7 years. He also fumbles a lot for a guy who only catches 30 something passes. And in SF he led the league in drop percentage to targets. Plus Bourne will be 29 next season. And he's coming off an ACL.

Why in the world would he be an important piece to a complete rebuild of the offense? A prove it to me deal ok, but he'll get a better deal with a contender.

I really feel like whatever, man. He's gonna go wherever he gets paid. I really don't care what it was under the old regime from 2020-2023. That's over.

Most of the noise coming out of Foxboro the last few years is standard issue for a losing team after a regime change. It is shocking for the Pats fanbase and players to hear this stuff because things have been so stable for so long. It was obvious from the beginning that the combo of MP and an immature QB was like mixing ammonia and bleach to scrub the floors. There was a lot of collateral damage in the locker room.

Do you have a reference for that? I don't see his leading the league in Dropped passes per target percentage for any of the SF years. Yeah, it was relatively high, but a lot of really good players were up there as well.

That being said - I mostly agree with you. Torn ACL? Sorry I'd prefer not to have him back. It's not like Kupp with an ACL coming back.
