Brissett would be a good role model for a rookie. What about Bridgewater? He seems like a high character guy as well.
I mentioned Brissett because he worked with AvP but Bridgewater is probably a better QB, so sure.

One thing: Caley has been passed over twice by New England, by the old regime and the new one. Maybe let's never bring up his name around here again.
IIRC, at the point that they "passed over" Caley, they had just blocked his leaving with McDaniels b/c he still had a year left on his contract, and he apparently wouldn't agree to an extension.

I am not impressed with Mayo’s hirings so far. It’s like a reject of other teams ! So much for thinking we would become more innovative!!! I will obviously wait and reserve final judgement during the season but first impressions are not very good.
So is that the same for traded players or Free Agents because they came from a team that decided they didn't want them? I mean how far are we taking the term rejects?

  • Tampa Bay QB coach 2010 - 2012
  • Green Bay RB coach 2012 - 2014
  • Green Bay QB coach 2014 - 2018
  • Cincinnati QB coach 2018 - 2020
  • Cleveland OC 2020 - 2024
He's experienced, must be liked been coaching for 18ish yrs with no breaks in employment, exposure to a bunch of systems.

But it does point to it wasn't a very desirable job, he was just fired by Cleveland after the season.

Or for you optimists, maybe Mayo just wanted an older guy who had been around the league and has an idea of how things are done.
Thanks for this post. Good stuff.

This has gone right as expected here. All the experts ***** about it. Same guys that *****ed endlessly about Bill. No one knows what will happen with this guy. But yet here we are.

As far as I can tell, he’s a west coast offensive guy. As long as he’s not a McDaniels disciple, I’m good with it for now. They need some older guys on staff, as there’s no been there done that guy until now.

None of it matters unless they have players. Players play. I want to see who they have under center. That’s going to determine all of it for 2024 and beyond.

He wasn't even passed over. Word was he was offered the OC w/o a title and he declined.

Why wouldn't I? I doubt very much all the ones being optimistic are gonna come forward with how bad this off-season has been if indeed the season proves that fact to be true.
Those that are being “optimistic“ lol. So you prefer we all sit back and *****, moan, and predict doom eh? Boy, you must be a blast to be around. Sorry someone pissed in your wheaties of life, but I’m hoping for the best. Cheers

Wow. People are acting like they just passed on a QB at #3.
Lol wait until that happens. Heads’ll explode.

The more you hear, the better the hiring gets. I will say he's a little old for having only called plays once in his life, after the previous OC was fired. But he has a lot of experience. He's seen a thing or two and isn't a slave to any philosophy. ****erson apparently exclusively uses zone blocking, so I'm a little nervous about that.

Follow the thread and don't cherry pick. Not the best effort here.

Never even heard rumor that they had interviewed him prior to this announcement.
