Mayo's Coaching Staff [Discuss Coaching Candidates Here!]

The reality is that college QB's need a lot of coaching and coaching can make a huge difference. It was agreed that Mayfield was a total failure. McVay took him under his wing and then vouched for him. TB picked him up, coached him up, build an offense around him and won their division.
You do realize that Baker's OC in Tampa was a 1st time OC, correct? That based on the work he did in Tampa, he's now a 1st time HC.

I'm not sure why people think that a coach has to be old or with 20 yrs exp. to have good ideas, or to be able to work and motivate young players. We've seen that is not the case, over and over.

y'think

what a surprise to those who seem to think that we can have whoever we want
If you had bothered to read the entire article, you would gave gleaned that it was based on opinions of ppl not part of the hiring process. Opinions just like you may have. Were you one of the sources? You might as well have been.

another board violation in this fact free zone

If a poster says that 19 years of experience under 3 top football minds is a lack of experience, then it must be true and a reasonable statement.
You need to try harder reading what's actually written.

I never said 19 years under 3 top coaches.
I said 9 years of NFL exp. under 3 top coaches, because it's a fact. If you think it is not a fact, please counter with your version of the facts, instead of being pissy about it.

One other fact, Caley was born in Canton, OH. That alone guarantees he'll be in the HOF one day.

MassLive changed their headline on the Nick O'Malley article. It originally stated that Zac Robinson turned down the Patriots Job. Now it mentions nothing about Robinson talking to the Pats.

I am guessing that they meant "turns down the Patriots" from the standpoint of - by taking a different job, he was by default turning down all other potential future suitors by taking himself off the market. But in reality, specifically saying that he had "turned down" someone implies that they had offered him a job and he declined it and then later taken a different job. Wise to change the headline.

I don’t agree with this narrative, they’re acting like. Top 3 pick Tom of cap
Room with an owner who seems desperate to win again.
I get that but whoever the OC is will be judged on the performance of the ****ty offense, so I can't imagine that people want to come into a spot that they are going to look bad. It could significantly hurt future prospective options.

I suspect that the article may be accurate.

We may not have formally offered the job. Is Covington even official? However, I could see Zac saying in the interview that he had to wait until he knew where his coach was going. He wanted to know his options. IMO, for Zac, it was a choice between saying that he really wanted the NEP job or whether he stayed with his coach. I think that he was the top choice for the patriots, if he really wanted the job.

It's really just semantics regardless.

Great movie, and actually very fitting. In a later scene they watch the greatest composer up to that time putting on a master class, but the King is very bored by it, there are no fireworks, so he yawns, and so everyone then yawns while the masterclass is taking place.

Or, they could look like instant geniuses the way Bobby Hill down in Houston does now.

Hit on a QB, your OL gets healthy again, sign a WR like Tee Higgins, get them rolling. Next you have a bunch of interviews next offseason.

prefer Pittman he’s done it without Chase on the other side and jags at QB.

As we saw in DET and TB, it is not coaching experience that is the issue. We need a QB coach and OC who are willing and able to use a QB to best advantage. How many thought that Goff and Mayfield were playoff QB's?

I doubt that they would have been under Bill and friends.
Why though? Sometimes the QBs are really just bad. It's not like other QBs haven't been reclaimed by Bill and had good seasons, or backups for that matter. It may very well be that these QBs were actually bad.

I was just telling a buddy of mine that it would be awesome if they could bring in Pittman and Minshew this off season in FA, draft MHJ and get as many OT's as possible because at least 2 would have to workout. lol

Minshew wouldn’t be awful,
I’d prefer Browning, or Dobbs as a bridge QB.
I still think MJH Pittman Justin Fields and we are fighting for a playoff spot.

Ok, I'll play, what are you giving up for Fields in this crazy plot that would get you nothing but "fighting for a playoff spot" and picking near the end of the round in '25?

EDIT: Crap, I missed which forum this in in....I don't actually see of deleting it.

Our second round pick for Fields, sign Pittman in free agency draft MH JR at 3 or trade down and grab Nabors.

The OL on that team might get Fields killed
And that is where I was going to go....not only do I find a 2nd for Fields and overpay, it leaves no reliable way to get an LT. You would probably have to take RT with the 3rd.

yup
If you want fields, trade down with #3 to AZ and then again to pick up a couple of extra picks and the draft two OT's

That’s another scenario, would depend on how much the team values MHJ vs a better oline, let’s not forget better WRs make the o line jobs easier and in some ways mitigate the need for a bookend tackle if Douglas and MH J can get open in 2 seconds.
