OT: Simmoms ... Atlanta Front Office Does Not Want Bill.

I'd be surprised to see BB on the sideline ever again.

You mean like the last playoff game where the Bills scored a TD on every possession?
Have you people never seen a rebuild?

6 old and slow guys have either retired or left the team after that game: Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Donte Hightower, Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy. Hell, JC Jackson got toasted.

All these players have been replaced by Jabril Peppers, Mac Wilson, Keion White, Christian Barmore, Kyle Dugger, Christian Gonzalez, Marcus Jones.

We're a lot faster than we were 2 yrs ago.

This is the definition of a rebuild.

I wouldn't be surprised if BB wanting total control could be a deal breaker. If I was an owner I wouldn't want to be looking for a new coach, front office staff and assistant coaches in three years. I would be interested in BB being my head coach only and have him build a solid coaching staff.
I really don't see the point in hiring BB without allowing him the players he needs to compete.

We know the defense is different from most other teams, 2 gap DTs, big DEs that set the edge, multiple DBs that play several different positions and hide their D as they switch from zone to man, big strong safeties (Mapu, Dugger and Peppers). Bend but don't break, flood the middle of the field.

There's no point in hiring him at all if you don't give him the pieces to do what he does best.

Yup. The league is just different. We don't have the whole "dictator coach that controls everything" mentality that used to persist in the past. Andy Reid doesn't want to do it, Pete wasn't doing. The Patriots were the last bastion of the coach shopping for the groceries and if you read between the lines of Kraft's press conference, Bil was fired mostly because they were over having him be the ultimate authority on all aspects of the team.

It's hard to envision a scenario where a team rips apart their front office for Bill to assume total control. Part of it is that he's 72 and not a longterm deal, but part of it is just that the NFL doesn't function that way anymore. Bill was an anomaly here and we kept it going until it stopped working. If he really wants full control, he's fighting an uphill battle and it's limiting already limited options.

There’s good and bad that comes with having one really good football kind in charge, especially longer term. The good is that they can consistently bring in layers that specifically tidally fit the systems they are running on the field. The bad is when they do a bad job picking those players, and there’s no one to stop them from making those decisions. And f you are going to go with a GM and head coach then they better be on the same page in that case ther wise you end up with the wrong players for the systems the coaches want to run, so for Belichick to take a job with a GM over him he’s going to have to be able too n deal with someone else picking the players for the offensive be and defensive systems he wants to run, and I pity the fool( GM) who doesn’t get Belichick the right groceries. This is why Dallas was the best fit for him, because that team is pretty much built, and Belichick would have Jerruh taking the players he wants. So ultimately it may be hard for Belichick to find the right franchise, and he’s going to have to find it soon or the coordinators and position coaches are going to dry up on him.

This should surprise no-one. One of the reasons Bill was going to have very few options is that no GM will want him because he would become their boss and they lose their power.

Of course many people on here did not want to hear it.

I bet there are some teams keeping their powder dry. If Atlanta falls through, they can come in and get a better deal. Belichick wants that record
What does this even mean?

1. Difficult to work with, check
2. 72 years old, check
3. Poor performance after Brady left, check
4. Wants control of talent, had control of talent, team has almost no talent, check.
5. Difficult with the media for no reason, check.

Any wonder why Teams aren’t lining up?

Sucks but he screwed himself. The man was drunk with power making horrid decisions figuring none will come back and bite him in the @$$. He could of broken the record long ago but we know that story.

Agreed, Bill was a great coach time has passed him by. Nobody is going to put up with his act if he's not winning. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Belichick has reportedly already turned down the Eagles and Cowboys, both of whom wanted him.
He apparently has made it known he's not interested in any large media markets. That rules out LA.
He will be the HC of Atlanta

I have seen zero reporting on this. All I have seen so far is pure speculation from talking heads and none of which was positioned as reporting.

Looking more unlikely. "Reportedly" the Falcons front office is in self preservation mode and pushing Blank into not hiring Bill.

Bill to Falcons has lost momentum

Exactly. There is zero reporting that Belichick is not going to Atlanta. Just pure speculation from talking heads.
It's all speculation and y'all are running with it like it's fact lol.
The reports that both Dallas and Philly wanted him and he turned them down is just as reliable as all those other speculations. Which is, who the hell knows? Why speculate, let it all play out.

While I agree with your general point the difference with Atlanta is 1) surprise it's not done yet given how quick things happen after interviews and 2) they took more interviews after him.

2 is the biggest problem for BB right now along with wanting control.

Short term "rentals" for players are one thing but why would any team agree to hire a HC who might as well be a rental at his age. I'll be surprised if it happens. No shame in retiring he's got nothing left to prove. Maybe he can do some TV and showcase himself as a likeable guy.

Belichick deserved criticism for his player personnel performance in recent years …..critical misses in the draft on offense in particular and his inflexibility in terms of adapting to the new realities of the NFL (changes in positional salary trends, failing to accept/recognize the importance of elite WRs for instance, in building a SB contender with all of the rule changes favoring the offense)….

BUT but notion that Belichick is no longer a good coach is so f*cking dumb. Then again, so are many Pats fans. I’d still take him as my head coach, all other things being equal, if my life depended upon winning one game.

PS. I’d generously offer the expert head coaching services of one Matthew Patricia to the members of the Fellowship of the Miserable, for their one “gotta have it to avoid the eternal dirt nap” game.

I think the scorched earth slander campaign in the media against the Krafts and Mayo undertaken by Bill’s yes men and sycophants still in “the building “ is not helping Belichick’s chances of landing a job.

Why would any owner willing subject himself and his team to that nonsense for a soon to be 72 year old coach?
I listened to Mike Reiss earlier say he was shocked at how much dysfunction there was inside Foxboro and that ppl were actually glad when Bill left. It was worse than I imagined. Reiss is not known for being a scumbag reporter.

You know McKay called Foxboro to find out what happened before sitting for that 2nd interview with Bill. It's not looking good for Bill's chances.

This is in the context of a rebuild where you don't have a QB or WRs. When he had those guys and didn't have Brady, the offense was enough to win games with Cassel and others.
You do realize that Belichick was 56 with Cassel. And yes, age does matter, clearly as I've been saying for years.
