Mayo will be the new HC

I guess in a similar mold we have DeMeco Ryans who is doing well as a former cerebral LB turned coach of the team he played for in Houston. But that seems like some strange copy cat stuff. Ryans also coached a variety of positions and was the sole DC of the 49ers for a season.

Others have suggested the contract sllows them to bypass the Rooney rule but does not commit the team to hiring Mayo,
How the hell does that work? Lol.

The diversity hire argument makes no sense. In what way does his skin color help the team? I doubt Boston sports fans will say “well we are 4-13 again in 2024 but at least our coach is a minority, so it’s fine”
It's code language for racists.

He has the persona that might lend itself well to the role in a way but has no experience. Having a brand new GM and HC neither of which have done the job before in the same season seems dicey.
Meh. John Lynch didn’t have experience either. Their structure seems to be working out okay. Gotta be willing to take some risks babbbbby!

Be better bro. This diversity hire **** needs to stop. People have been hyping Mayo up for several years now. This has nothing to do with the color of his goddamn skin.
The point of the Rooney rule is to have minorities hired that wouldn’t otherwise be hired.
It’s certainly a valid conversation.
I can’t think of any non minorities with less coaching experience getting hc jobs.

If Mayo is the hire then whoever is the GM will quickly run the show so it is best to get some old trusted retread, but if it is Vrabel then we can afford to take a chance on some young hotshot uber-nerd front office guy for GM

I mean yes I agree to a degree.
I have no issues with that I mean Kraft is all about Diversity which is great but you can’t tell me he’s more prepared than Vrabel or Harbaugh to be a HC.
And he’s not an offensive mastermind he’s not calling plays.
I love Mayo the player but I have concern about Mayo the coach.
However Kraft is around him everyday, Mayo has turned down interviews so this was the plan for a whIle. Mayo is incredibly smart and articulates very well. He impresses me but as a DC I would love this move.
I hope we can pair him with Mcdaniels and the fact Obrein has been a HC he can help guide him.

On the other hand coaches like Ryan’s, Pierce, Campbell are most recent examples of players who have made the jump and have been very impressive.
Hoping Mayo is ready to lead our beloved Patriots.

No. What I meant is how does having the succession plan in his contract allow them to skip the rooney rule but not have to hire mayo.

I am not a local so I only ever see him if he shows up on a national show which does not happen often.

He hurt your feelings? You want a hug? The guy was reporting what he heard - I.e his job. Not his fault you don't like his info that turned out to be accurate btw.

Grow up.
This is even weirder. You don't even have consistent knowledge of the guy and you're defending him from afar.
Definity a FAN CLUB MEMBER.
Your a journalist? A consumer advocate? A union rep?
I have no idea what kind of person thinks a media member broadcasting fed information needs a voice in his corner. Carry on narrative monitor.

They can only skip the Rooney rule by hiring the guy who has the succession plan in his contract.

I think it only allows them to bypass the Rooney Rule if they promoted Mayo. If they wanted to hire Vrabel, they’d need to go through the proper process.

Kinda nuts that this was in the contract after all, after every reporter told us he wasn’t given any assurances a year ago.

Yeah this is the weird part to me.

That makes sense to me. What Mack said he’s been hearing doesn’t make sense to me.

I say figure out the GM and why not interview 7-10 guys how many times have you heard owners say we thought why him. Then we met him and we left the interview going how can we not hire him.
I would love Kraft and insert Gms name here to do a wide thorough search.
And if it’s Mayo afterward we can all get behind that.
But why cheat yourself for meeting great minds.

IMO I think his best option would be to keep BOB and lean heavily on him to not just be his OC but also for advice as an HC on some of the day to day stuff. BOB has lots of experience in that regard.
That could work but then what is Mayo bringing to the table as an HC? BB's ability to be on both sides of the field showing guys pointers on techniques is unparalleled. Mayo can do that for defense and maybe some game planning. We lack info on what makes Mayo so coveted. I guess I'm still trying to accept the huge step down from BB.
