Curran's reporting on Mayo being the next head coach

Curran also had the worst take on the team pre-season. WAY off.

I think his sources left when Brady left.
Pretty obviously Guerrero, given that Curran was a patient of his and wrote about how much of a miracle-worker he was. It’s kind of similar now with Mayo, a frequent podcast guest of Curran’s. I don’t doubt that Guerrero was or that Mayo is feeding Curran mostly accurate information, but at some point he needs to at least attempt to give us an unbiased view instead of pounding the table for his guy.

If this is true, I'm out. Mayo with Stevie B as the DC? Is Rod Rust not available?

One of the major reasons to fire Bill is to get rid of the nepotism.

Vrabel is by far the better candidate. He's the perfect guy to take over from BB. Mayo with Stevie B means years of mediocrity..
When BB is fired, Stevie B will quit Bob Kraft. No way SB stays after Kraft fires his Pop.

Anyone else truly loyal to BB will also leave on their own.

I think Mcdaniels is in consideration without Bill his wife if married to the area.

Interesting. I am not afraid of change. I like the idea of more former players being head coaches. I'm alright with giving Mayo a shot. I think we should clean house with everything regarding our wrs. Scouts and Troy Brown. Brown has been here awhile and I haven't seen a single wr get better from the moment they walked into the building.

That simply is not true. The only JAGs are the quarterbacks he was saddled with; even then, he took Tennessee to the AFC title game and was named coach of the year in 2021.
It’s subjective of course. Personally, I don’t think he’s a good coach. I don’t see him as the guy to carry the torch for the franchise.

Just my opinion

Vrabel set up very competitive teams without a franchise QB.
Always played us tough and close,
Plus he’s a previous Patriots star who has respect and admiration for and from the team.
Being a previous player he can relate to and get guys to buy in and play hard for him.
He already had a background with the Krafts.

It checks almost all the boxes.
Aside from

He’s not an offensive Genius which is what teams are chasing.
He’s never won a superbowl.
...and hes never been a HC before let alone a coordinator.

I think learning the ropes of being an NFL head coach is one of the most difficult things for any person to achieve. Mayo retired in February of 2016 and was hired as a linebackers coach by the Pats in 2019. I don't know if he did any coaching in the three years from 2016 through 2018, but I am not aware of him coaching in a major college program at an important job like defensive coordinator. As others have noted, he was not given the title of defensive coordinator here and seems to have shared the responsibilities with Steve Belichick. Mayo's learning curve to being a competent head coach is going to be steep. I just can't see the Patriots being any more than average if he is selected. And I don't mean that he may not, in time, become a good head coach, but that he needs a good deal more experience.

There is a theory that mayo is curran's source in all the BB firing speculation. Check this thread

I'm Done with Currwrong.

Getting trade compensation for BB is going to take some time and negotiation. Sure it might take an extra week, but it's worth kicking the tires if you can get anywhere from a 1st to 2nd round pick in return for BB. Rumors are that LA Chargers or Atlanta Falcons might be interested in making the move for BB.
Hope i'm wrong but i don't see us getting anything for BIll. However if we were negotiating for that it will have a pretty high chance of it being reported on by the media.
