BB watch

That is why stories like these are bs.
It says “according to sources” belichick wanted to keep Patricia but relented

As with most of the story it’s a tired old conspiracy theory. The article is full of them. You can “confirm” anything you want with an unnamed source when it’s been speculated. Who do you think the source would be that really had that knowledge? That read Belechicks mind?
This is how it works, they float an idea then ask a bunch of “sources” and get into say they think so, and end up with a salacious claim.

Patricia’s contract was up. So he would have had to be rehired. BOB was hired immediately which all but confirms they tried to hire him a year ago and he wouldn’t break his Alabama deal.

This, like most of the story, is nothing more than telling rumors to a bunch of people somewhere in the orbit of the organization and getting one who will not go on record to say yeah I think so.
BoB was never the plan. The article blows that argument out of the water but you don't want to believe it because it doesn't fit your narrative.

I am not particularly in favor of moving on from BB, but if the Pats did, there is one potential benefit that I have not seen mentioned.

Does Goodell hate the Pats or BB? Both?

Is it possible that Goodell’s biases and draconian punishments would follow BB to his new team?

The Pats would still be in a position to make his beloved Rats miserable.

BOB was always the plan. How does the article blow it out of the water? Who is the source that “blew it out of the water”? Who did belichick tell his inner most thoughts to?
I don’t have a narrative. That’s why I see it clearly.

The reality is that we are moving on from Belichick at some point soon because he is 72 years old. The wise plan is to get everything we can out of him before he retires. You have the greatest HC/GM asset the league has ever seen.
You have the man who took a team and quickly built it into the greatest dynasty ever. Now the second time around the rebuild progress has been clouded by how largely the team has been held back by the QB position.
You now have draft capital and 100 million in cap to reset the rebuild, get the qb right and add talent. Who else would you want to do that?
As of today he would be handing over a team that is a qb short of contending, let him finish the job before retirement and you may launch the second dynasty for the successor.

They are a lot more than that short of contending.
Nah. With average qb play this team would be at least 10-6.
There are 6 games that were very close with awful qb play. Average Qb play wins those games.
10-6 is a contender.

Contender doesn’t mean flawless. All contenders have flaws and weaknesses. Arguing that you are a qb away from contenting because there are other issues is ignorant. Contenders have issues.

0 pro bowlers. Says it all...

Pro bowl says nothing, it’s no more than a popularity contest.
Players on teams held back by their qb don’t get pro bowl votes.

More often neither do players on a 4-12 team that have way less talent than their peers at the same position. Which we do.

0 probowlers does show that they're not just a QB away from contending. They need help in many areas.
No it shows that they didn’t win popularity contests because QB play turned 10 wins into 6.
Team record is a huge influence on pro bowl voting.

This is the kind of imaginary thinking fans of loser teams engage in. This is a bad offense even with an average QB. And you can’t just change one variable, hear the QB, and think nothing else changes including how the other team plays. they were lucky to win two of their 4 wins in which QB play was average, Denver and Buffalo. And in both of those games their defense gave up 2 Q4 TD drives and in the Denver game 2 two point conversions. So no, average QB play does not equal wins in those 6 games.

The second time around reset has been held back by Bill the GM. just start with Brady leaving, a competent GM would have had a back up plan. He had none. There’s more but I know you don’t want to hear/believe it Andy.

Whether those players are good or not has a bigger influence.

QB play + OL play + WR play + Special Teams play + up and down secondary play + bad coaching made this a 4 win team. All need to be fixed before contention should be discussed.

Spot. ****ing. On. For the first time since 2012 BB has a war chest. Let the man use it, groom more assistant coaches for 2-3 years, and leave the franchise in a good place to contend again.

Holy ****ing cherry picking Batman but I'm not surprised in a world where nuance is all but dead. I hope writing is this author's hobby rather than job.

A few examples:
- Going on and on about the Sanu trade without noting the trades for Moss, Welker, or Cooks
- Says former Pats players are doing better else where and his lone example is Jakobi Meyers who isn't having a career year in any stat other than TDs (7 versus 6 here last season). Jonnu Smith is a fair criticism but he's likely benefiting playing next to Kyle Pitts. I think BOB could have figured out how to use him better.

Average qb play makes this team a contender, with no other changes.
Qb improvement alone elevates ol and wr play. Improvement at those position also and they are a serious contender.

Other than an inaccurate rookie field goal kicker sts have been fine.
