Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Super pumped for tonight’s game! Glad the Wolves, Bucks, Sixers all lost to take seeding pressure off. Just want to see these two teams match up. Both teams full strength, Celtics -3.5 on road. SGA has been playing at such an insanely high level will be interesting to see if White can keep up with him.

I didn’t see a lot of the first half but why the hell did Holiday play 31 minutes and White 29 minutes? Love Holiday but it’s obvious this isn’t his type of matchup with the OKC speed and athleticism. Was White in foul trouble?

Celtics pissing away so many points now on Tatum fadeaway jumper isos with the clock running down it’s almost comical.

I think SGA is the best non big in the league.

I wish the league would actually follow through about flopping. Holmgren really BS’d that offensive foul screen in crunch time.

Holiday was bad. Celtics missed a ton of shots in the paint and had little defensive intensity, particularly in a horrible 3rd quarter

He's so good. Was blowing by Holiday and White. Tatum had some success with him in the fourth, I think that's what they'll go with when they play again

Brown was terrible. It was good to see the fight down 18 in the fourth. Porzingis kept them in it, gotta keep that dude healthy

Big stretch coming up over the next 10 days

Porzingis and White(as usual), were outstanding both ends of the court.
Tatum was just OK overall.
Holiday was not good.
Brown just sucked. It's ok, he's been great for 12 straight games. This did look like the bad Jaylen we saw earlier this year. Everyone has an off night, just don't make a habit of it.
OKC is legit. SGA is a top 5 player in the NBA. Holmgren has game.
Well-coached very young team that excels offense and defense. They're only going to get better, being 2nd youngest roster in the league. But like all team sports, the in- game adjustments are huge.
Mazzula and C's made them in the 4th,went on a run and dominated. If there were 2 more minutes on the clock they win that game.
That's why a 7 game series is very different than just a single reg season game, especially at home. I'm confident C's would beat them in a best of 7. But it would be a battle.
Question is how much better they might be come May/June.

Agree with pretty much all of your post. They are young, but improving. If they make it to the finals, it would be a battle, and it would depend on the health of the Celtics. Wouldn't bet on them making it at this point, but it wouldn't be a shocker that's for sure

Holiday looked a step slow, but it's just one game. We knew we weren't getting peak Holiday, and he's been steady so far. This is definitely a title or bust year for the Celtics though

The Celtics' defensive length really bothered the Thunder so the Thunder were playing fast. Curiously Pritchard was the one successful in slowing the ball enough to allow time for the Celtics to set their D. Stops in the 4th Q were key, and Pritchard was the answer to slowing the Thunder. Pritchard's height didn't matter as the Thunder lack post up players. Tatum's length on SGA was successful, but only after Pritchard had slowed the ball so all 5 Celtics were set defensively.

NBA schedule does kind of suck. OKC flies to Atlanta for a next day road game and is down 16 in 4th.

Speaking of schedule I expect Celtics to lose a few because of situations like this coming up. I was going to say the Bucks might surpass then but the Bucks are about to lose back to back to the Pacers. Bucks have a cake schedule which gets very hard in February. Celtics have the opposite, tough first half, easy second half.

Yup, Bucks dropped two in a row to Indiana, and OKC loses to the Hawks. Crazy league.

And the Celtics are going to go from Indiana to fly back to Boston to fly back to Milwaukee, that doesn't make a lot of sense

It's been that way for a long time.
Freaking ridiculous and it hurts the product the league puts out.
You'd think in this age of supercomputers, some genius could figure out how to fix this.

It’s like Derrick White makes the right decision with the ball 11 times out of 10.

D White was 3 for 6 with 7 points. Brown had 31, Tatum had 38 points. D White had to sit late in the 4th Q with 5 fouls after a silly 5th foul. White had 2 assists. You are excited about 7 points and 2 assists?
