They are "ahead", as I type this, because of a differential in the number of games their opponents have played (it's literally WAS .51481 vs. NE .51493).

If they end up at the exact same SOS after next week, the Patriots will pick first (b/c they lost to WAS).

If both lose, Washington lost to a 12-win team and NE lost to a 7-win team.
Would that tweak the strength of schedule slightly in NE's favor?
If so, a loss to the Jets could reinstall NE at #2.

It's bizarre - What I'm getting from the official rules is that the conference tiebreaker doesn't apply if they're not in the same conference, but it sounds like I may be wrong here (subject to ctpatsfan77's post) . Note that the below has no mention of conference before the following rules:

If the teams have the same strength of schedule, division or conference tiebreakers are applied. If the divisional or conference tiebreakers are not applicable, or ties still exist between teams of different conferences, ties will be broken the following tie-breaking method:

Which team will go first? How long does each team have to make its pick? Who is eligible to be drafted? The NFL has specific rules for each part of the draft process.

Tankathon is already factoring in all 17 opponents. That was one of the things I didn’t realize.

Before the game, we could predict with 100% certainty that the Pats would pick #9 at the worse. Currently, I can say #6 at the absolute worst even with a win against the Jete (confidently I can say #4).

It updates as games are completed. If SEA wins that may be enough to give Pats #2. If SEA, CIN & DEN win, then Pats will have #2 with a gap in SoS (not sure by how much).
