BB watch

Many of his recent moves either out much better than is apparent, but have been brought down by the qb.
Over his tenure here his cumulative moves are the best ever.
Who's responsible for coaching the QB? Of does the QB coach himself?

I want someone else buying the groceries. If he wants to stay and have a GM that’s not one of his appointments, then I am ok with him staying for another year or two as HC. I think he’s lost his fastball, game day wise, but taking GM duties off his plate should lighten the load.

This is completely reasonable to suggest, especially at his age. The tricky (or impossible?) part is finding a capable GM that BB could have a productive relationship with and vice versa. It would have to be highly collaborative, given that the entire football operation was built by BB and functioned under his management for 24 years. The GM also should require a degree of autonomy or else he'd just be a yes man.

It seems a tall order but the need for change in how the roster is handled has become obvious.

Yes.

I don’t think it’ll work. I just don’t see Bill taking the demotion and working for a GM, nor do I see a strong enough GM who will stand Bill up.

Imagine that. A freaking quarter of a century. That in itself is unbelievable. Who in today’s society sticks with one company for that long. Christ I think most people don’t even stay married that long…

It's hard for me to see Bill taking a pay cut. Becuase if someone else, groh in my opinion would be named official GM his contract would be breached. Unless ownership redid he contract over and took away GM duties. However he won't be making 25 million.. just hard to see that happen. As perfectly said about autonomy.. for example reports were Bill O'Brien was allowed to fully install his offense. Right now under this current set up Bill has final say on everything associated with the roster and personnel. So it's either he stays under some revised terms or just he is allowed to coach elsewhere. We all can agree there will be some changes!

Merry Christmas to you too!

so what would be an intriguing HC/GM combo? Who would it take to Wow you?

and you say that there are only a handful of teams in the league right now with solid coaching or a good GM, one or the other, so how about both? Given that, how likely is it that Kraft will come up with a combo of both?
I have not given the HC position much thought. Reid and Shanahan at top of list are not going anywhere.
Maybe a big name college coach. That can get risky.
One name as GM that I have interest in is Adam Peters asst GM SF.

It would take a lot to intrigue me. BB is still a good damn coach. Underwhelming GM
I would love BB with Peter’s being director of player personel.
Long long shot
My main concern is if BB leaves for somewhere else he will decimate our entire staff. I would like him to stay but work with another mind that was once in the Patriots organization but with a little different offensive approach to players
BB can still do magic with the Defense

So you are saying Belichick deserves credit for Brady’s development? Yes I agree.

Thanks. Helpful comments. I share your concern about the consequences of Bill’s leaving. Unless it’s his choice it will inevitably decimate the organization.

Off topic and couldn't resist sharing this.

What a game and what offensive performance by Brady and team

How times have changed...

but then I just can't stop thinking of all the wasted draft picks, awful FA on offense, the super conservative offense, the zero accountability, the nepotism, the refusal to go outside his "circle" for assistants...
So much of this. I have been a BB supporter since Brady retired but I have come to the end of my patience. On offense I feel like its the same thing every week and Bill seems alright with it. It feels like its time to bring in a GM and new coach.

The BB "problem" stems chiefly from player personnel/roster management. The rest is at least debatable, including the alleged nepotism. Plenty of NFL coaches have sons/relatives on staff and BB's sons reportedly are doing a good job.

He has to go.
Being a 4 win team does not save his job. He has shown that without Brady bailing him out that he can’t do much with a team.

If Pats win at least 1 more game and are competitive against buffalo then Bill is coming back next year.

I'm calling it now. If The team is playing well with Zappe it will be hard for Kraft to fire Bill.

I didn't know Brady was still playing for the Patriots the last 3 seasons. How many GOATs did he develop in the last 3 seasons?

The undoing was really last season.. from reports ownership was infuriated with the decision have the set up with he offense. So couple that with the 2023 roster decisions, the way the seasons gone.. it's hard for even the most accomplished coaches like Bill to survive this. However you don't just fire bill.. it has to be a respectful parting of ways.

When it comes to his coaching staff I question his ability to evaluate impartially.

Bob needs to look at like a business....and I think he will.

If the CEO has 4 straight under-performing years but has a good Q4 '23 you still move in a different direction.

My gut feeling is Mayo is promoted to HC.. the Belichick boys would then have to decide what is best for them. I'm thinking Demarcus covington as DC.. Barmore has praised him for his resurgence. Billy O stays on as OC. Groh is GM, wolf assistant GM.. I'm telling folks Mayo is his own man.. he won't be a Bill clone in my opinion.

Exactly right. That 200 million dollar light house can't pay for itself!!
