Honestly, I have never seen more defenders stuffed into the box with 100% expectations that our OC would call a basic run play right up the middle right out of the gate.
Who in the stadium didn't know what kind of O'Brien wizardry was about to transpire.
Frankly, the NE offense showed more creativity during the Cam Newton "Qb Sneak" era

But Obie ticked the most important box: Friend of Bill.
In fact I think I was told that there is a FoB checkmark box on the application form that's filled out by all aspiring coaches.
Another application question: "If you did not check the "FoB" box, are you in anyway related to a "FoB"?
Then of course the obligatory "Did you play college lacrosse?"

The hiring of Bill O was almost universally welcomed here, everything else is hindsight.

I know my welcoming of it was just out of relief, and some assumption that he was progressive in his offensive philosophy because he was at Alabama doing Bama things. That assumption seems to be mistaken. I think I was wrong. But I could be wrong about that.

I don't disagree, however, the best offensive coordinator in the world won't make a high school team beat an nfl team. Mac has made 3 coordinators, two of whom have superbowl rings, look incompetent. At some point you have to start assigning blame to the player.

At this point, we have lost our best wide receiver, two or three of our best offensive linemen, our best running back, and have had our next two best wr's in and out of games all season. It is kind of hard to game plan when you are missing all your best players. It goes back to the high school team, happily for some of you, you can blame Bill B for the players, but we were pretty thin with high level talent to start with, and it has gotten much worse on both sides of the ball.

I'd say the blame on the player(s) is well deserved and Patricia was also a terrible offensive coach put in that role by a terrible decision by the HC.

I posted earlier this season, It's not entirely his fault. He bears some of the responsibility, to be sure, but the QB is bad, the line is bad and the WRs are bad. Can't ask a chef to cook a gourmet meal with bad ingredients.

I would enjoy Patricia back over O'Brien. Patricia was better than O'Brien - look at the stats. Why aren't you snarky about O'Brien like you are about Patricia?

Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers are liars When they insulted the offense? Every year is it's own entity, it's a different team.

They were in Mac's "***** and complain" camp. Mac is gone and so it the *****ing and complaining. You didn't notice?

We played an easier schedule last year and Mac is worse. We knew this years schedule would be tougher even if we looked better before the season

But I don't think all the articles about how Patricia ran a simplistic offense didn't know how to change plays or receiver concepts were a lie.

The articles were all piling on Patricia who is now promoted at the Eagles while O'Brien bottoms out. Lots of articles last year saying O'Brien sucked at Alabama - why are there no articles about O'Brien sucking in the Pats' press this year? Why aren't you dumping on O'Brien like you dump on Patricia?

I just think they put too much faith in how much O'brien would improve the offense. Instead of improving the skill positions. Bill ignored them again. Went defense all top picks. Meanwhile our offense is surrounded by JAGs.

Everyone at Alabama thinks O'Brien sucks. You think it was "Patricia" last year and "the weapons" this year. The weapons are improved with Douglas but worse without Meyers. How does that make any sense? You think losing Meyers is why O'Brien's offense sucks? Really? That is your take?

For what it's worth, our offense looks worse under BoB.

Patricia's offense had awful pre-snap issues, but the actual play design and play calling, BoB is worse imo.

As bad as Mac looked under Mat, he looks even worse under BoB, which is quite an accomplishment.

I have nothing but best wishes for Patricia. He was an effective DC for us and I blame Bill and not Matt for last year's fiasco. If anything, I think it was unfair for Bill to have put Matt in that situation.

Id bring McDaniels back. It's evident he's a much better OC. Might be trash as a coach but he got production out of Brissett, Jimmy G, Cam Newton, Mac Jones.
