Tom Curran: Sources made 'clear to me' decision to move on from Belichick made after Germany game

I could absolutely see Kraft naming Mayo as head coach and renewing BoB as offensive coordinator.
There was a reason the organization paid big $ to re sign Mayo

I am not sure I agree with that completely I think those WR's are going to be very good.
My initial reaction is

because I know how you love to beat the WR drum absolutely to death. However... your thought process of Bill missing the boat on the league moving to high end wideout talent isn't wrong. I just wish you weren't so goddam fixated on it and reverted to that thought process every flippin' post. In the instance of Gonzalez and White, those are fine picks and will likely play dividends going forward.

There's 22 men on the field, and the other positions need to be filled, even if you only have eyes for pretty boy divas who play outside the numbers on offense.

If this is true then who does Kraft have his eye on?
He wouldn’t make that move unless he felt he could get his guy.
I hope it’s not Mayo.
Kraft's last three hires for HC have been pretty good Parcells, Carrol and Belichick. I'm comfortable with that record.

TNF broadcast confirmed he has one year left after this season.
Which concurs with Curran’s real time reporting as the NFL media’s “ lucrative, long-term”story broke that Sunday morning on NBCBoston’s pregame show for those who want to believe Curran is without sources on this subject,

So far all but Rice have been disappointments. They are young. There is still time. Rice also plays with Mahomes and he seems to be the only competent WR they have. Regardless, it's doubtful any of them would've helped the Patriots offense, since they can't even help more functional ones. I'd throw in Treylon Burks as yet another who would've been no help, but he was the one available last year.

You can't win the Super Bowl every other year. Long in the tooth players go out the door, you start over. People that think the Patriots success would've been endless with Brady seem to have forgotten 2019.

Go look at the huge exodus of players that left.

I say this all the time: 99% of the players on this team joined AFTER Mac left. Anyone who believes the Patriots would've competed for the SB with Brady didn't watch 2019, and isn't looking at the roster.

As for Brady making the playoffs "every year" he played 2 years in Tampa, and that was a loaded roster.

You guys never seem to really hone in on your criticisms of Belichick by saying something valid. Here, let me have a go: out of all the players who left the Patriots since their SB teams, Belichick made a huge mistake by not keeping Joe Thuney. By giving Shaq Mason a big contract over Thuney, Belichick kept the less talented guard!.

That's the kind of thing you should be saying.

Otherwise, losing Edelman, Hightower, Thuney, Mason, Cannon, McCourty, James White, Trey Flowers, Van Noy, Chung, Gilmore, the good JC Jackson, Roberts, etc.

This was always only ever going to end in tears. Sorry, but teams don't lose 13 veteran starters and studs and easily recover.
What? If you want to see Brady's decline then just look at 2019?!? He led the Pats to a 12-4 record and one bs call away from the top seed. And he did it with an offense that was decimated by injuries.

But let's not even discuss what has happened to the team since. The four seasons have been bad, poor, poorer and poorest (talk about declining) because all the top players were lost, as if they were misplaced and weren't decisions by the GM. Same with the poor roster that you said they have. Who puts that together, Patsfans.com?

And Brady only won with TB because he had the players but you support Bill's fire-sale approach with the Pats? That makes no sense.

There won't be as many tears when Bill is gone as you think. Many of those tears were lost 4 years ago. Personally, I'll be partying if it happens.

That is naive. Someone with his platform and reach always has sources. Always pays to have media people spin your narrative.

a lot of his sources have moved on, as he's become a self promoter, more concerned with talk radio appearances and twitter followers....i don't begrudge anyone chasing the $$, but he's lost most of his credibility as a viable journalist

I may be in the minority but I think the Bucs roster was over valued, what did that talented roster accomplish before and after Brady?
It is just more of the Bill fanboys diminishing what Brady did in Tampa by calling it a "loaded roster". They were a 7-9 team with two very good receivers, average tight ends, and average running backs. Most of their talent was on defense but the defense was terrible because the offense turned the ball over nonstop constantly putting the D in bad situations.

Brady showed up in the covid year with and learned a new offense with all new teammates and no formal practices till training camp. He also brought in a hall of fame tight end, receiver, and solid power running back who all came to Tampa to play with him. So yes, part of that "loaded roster" was directly because of Brady himself. Then all he did was win 3 playoff games in a row on the road and then win a Super Bowl. But I guess it was just that loaded roster carrying him to another ring.

Jason Pierre Paul, Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Tristan Wirfs, Ali Marpet, Gronkowski, Ryan Jensen, Fournette, Vita Vea, Suh, Shaq Barrett, Devin White, Lavonte David, Winfield Jr, Cappa, Carlton Davis

That's a star-studded cast.

Translation: "He used to be a good journalist when he said good things about the team. Now he is a bad journalist because he says bad things bout the team."

Prior to Brady they led the NFL in passing yards two years in a row and ranked third in passing TD’s both seasons.

They also had the best run defense in the league for years and had first or second year CB’s coming into their own in 2019.

Jameis could throw, he couldn’t stop giving the ball back to the opponent at a historic rate in 2019… like top ten in a hundred plus years of pro football bad.

Tom chose wisely…

How can you watch football since the 60s and not realize players get old, they get worse as they do, and they leave?

ALL the players I listed except Thuney were OUT of the NFL by the next couple of years.

It was clear in 2019 that the Patriots were trending down. & they couldn't sign anyone new in 2020 because they elected to take the dead cap hits on all the old grizzled vets who were leaving.

Again what did that All Pro roster do before and after?

You mentioned multiple rookies and guys that came to Tampa to play with Brady and a chance for a ring. The rest of those guys won 7 games the year before. I know when Bill wins 7 games without Brady it's a triumphant feat but 7 wins isn't a good season.
