Mike Lombardi Thinks Belichick Could Go Elsewhere, Status Beyond Sunday in Question?

Could this be the interim HC of the NEP on Monday?

I have been ready to move on from Belichick for several years but firing him mid season should never be on the table and I don't believe it is.

First, whatever you think of him he has won 6 SBs and there is a level of respect that is owed to that. I am not one of those who believe he gets to coach for as long as he wants as a result of that as that is dumb. However firing him mid season is the other extreme of that and not acceptable.

Second, what's the point of firing him before season's end? The season is toast so I don't see any upside to it. Also , he has 2 kids on staff (another thing I never liked) so you will be firing minimum 3 coaches.

Third, if the plan is to make Mayo the coach now and long term, you would be putting him in a very awkward and toxic position as some would be putting a part of the firing blame on him.

here's the thing......Bob is still making plenty of money; stadium is full, waitlist for seasons tickets is still long, beer is still flowing

he wants the record with bill on the sidelines in Gillette as much as anyone.......huge FA season coming, they don't need bill to build another SB team......they need to build a 10 win team, 2 more years of bill, the record here, ride off into the sunset.......this is a business, and that's the plan that makes the most sense; fans want superbowls, but......

i expect roster turnover, i expect staff turnover, i wouldn't even be surprised to see a GM come in, even if they don't have that explicit title.....but i don't expect to see bill gone

i'm just not buying something that all goes back to volin........they've all been sharpening their axes for years, and this is their moment

To me Bill is the type of guy who would absolutely love to stick it to Kraft if he got fired and rush to a team like the Chargers and win there to make Kraft look like he made a mistake.
I said this before. Brady was way more gracious about how things went down than I think Belichick would be and me too if in that position to be honest. Most people probably would be more vindictive about it.

Honestly wouldn't it be a relief for both Bill and everyone at this point for him to be somewhere else, fresh start for him to get Shula's record and a real reset for the Patriots?

It suddenly feels so much like it's time

One of Bill's sock puppets at least suggested Bill could go elsewhere.

Personally.. I don't see another win this season unless a team lays down for us like the bills did... Washington was clearly tanking and STILL couldn't beat them. I think thier is something to the reports.. everyone can't be wrong!

Who knows, maybe give the interim coach (Mayo?) a chance to demonstrate if he can turn the locker room around. It's happened with other teams before.

If Belichick steps down as GM and remains head coach and they give the GM job to someone in the organization, Belichick is still the GM just not in name. Same if they bring in someone who used to work with Bill like Lombardi or Pioli or Ziegler.

it's not everyone.....it's one guy

It's more than 1 guy.. laconfora, breer, riess, Curran, perry, all have reported similar things.. me personally I don't see a figure as important as BB to be fired... but hey NFL... anything can happen..

I highly doubt he'd remain as HC.. especially after having so much power and control..

I thought Pioli might be a good candidate but you’re probably right…just a puppet.

I don't think Bill would be fired. If anything he will "step away" for "health reasons" and let the team hold his rights and let the team work out a deal to send him where he wants to go. Much better for his public image to step away on his own and avoid the "Belichick Fired" headlines. Go where he wants in the offseason. Kraft will tell him he's done and Bill will be afforded the chance to step away before he is actually fired.

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
A sports guy from the Washington Post was on the radio yesterday and he was confident that BB would not be back in NE next season.

He said that BB is still stubborn hard-core Defense wins Championships and that is why BB was not too panicked when Brady left. This also lines up with BBs drafting and personal moves.

He also went on to say that BB would pass Schula, but nor win another Super Bowl.

My guess is that the Giants have already talked to BB about their HC/GM job.
