Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

He has moved so far onto my sports villain list it makes it harder to enjoy the Celtics. I hope like hell the team has active plans to trade him after the season and ensure Tatum gets a long term extension.

Why is that? Brown is not a bad guy, and I don't fault anyone for taking the money. Maybe you were kidding?

I don't hold that against him. I assume he is not a distributor, but I understand your point.
Yeah I don't have any hate for Brown but his overall game has regressed imo.
A couple year ago he was a superb one on one defender. His defense sucked last year.
Tatum is a much better defender and obviously, a much better player.
Browns turnovers in crucial situations were horrible last season especially in playoffs. His 3pt shooting pct. has steadily gotten worse year after year, his shot selection sucks. He's definitely also more selfish. He wanted that all nba so he could qualify for the supermax and took some Ill-advised shots.
Was even worse after the new contract as if he was trying to prove he earned it.
That being said,if he can get back to being more like the player he was 2 or 3 years ago the C's will be the best team in the nba.
Tine to look in the mirror,Jaylen.
How bad do you want a title?

I have an attitude problem towards Jaylen Brown. I was tired of his missed shots, bad passes and lost balls during the regular season. It continued into the playoffs with the last playoff game when Tatum went down the Brown played that game like ****. Now he is the highest paid player and here tonight against the Knicks in there last pre season game. He is doing the exact same play with mistakes. He has that pass to the opponent down perfect. So much so that Mazzulla called a time out because he was disgusted with Brown. Why should I not have a negative attitude towards the highest paid Brown?

Just turned on the game to see him selfishly drive into traffic and attempt several low pct Jordanesque reverse spin shots. He’s going to kill the flow of this offense with his black hole iso ****.

Yeah he lead the turnovers with 4, nothing new for him.

Brown's athleticism is off the charts. Defense is good, and a genuinely nice guy and team player. He is only the highest paid because of the timing of the new player agreement, in three or four years there will be lots of players paid more (even though it is hard to believe players are going to make more than $300M).

His athleticism isn’t really “off the charts” by NBA standards. Those guys are freaks. I don’t know how you say his defense is good when almost every metric has him average at best. His plus/minus shows he’s basically an overall neutral player. You can make that contract argument about any player in any sport, and any economic/budget decision can be foolishly rationalized by citing that inflation exists.

The guy simply adds volume to the team’s offense and nothing else. If they traded him, they’d barely skip a beat since their other four notable players would take on the extra shots at roughly the same efficiency. Brown doesn’t create anything for teammates or draw a lot of doubles. Miami’s strategy was to let him get the ball as much as possible.

Really hoping the team is planning to trade him next year. Tatum, Holiday, White and Porzingis are great players to build a team around.

There is a lot of truth to what you say, but you are a little critical of Brown. His speed, strength, vertical, and scoring when taken together are quite impressive. There are others, like RWIII who I love, that also have great athleticism, but are limited in other areas. So comparing Brown across the NBA without looking at all aspects of his athleticism and production is not completely fair IMO.

Fair enough

I am not saying Brown is great because his warts are obvious. And his contract is definitely not a "value" contract like Brady took. But I doubt the Celtics trade him because a lot of athletic guys can't score, and a lot of "scorers" don't play defense. Brown is a bit of everything.

Brown is an elite talent. There is no debate on that. His passing, ballhanding and defense need to improve but like you say every player has warts and those are his. I don't think he is a locker room problem and seems to be a good teammate.

It remains to be seen if Brown is right for this team and can he and JT win a title together.

Can JB and JT win a title together? I doubt it. But with Porz and Holiday I think so. I am very encouraged.

Watching Pritchard in the preseason he seems to finally have the correct NBA pace of play. Is it his 4th or 5th year? We will see if his composure holds in the regular season, but I think it will (I have been optimist before and then disappointed as Pritchard looked too hurried). If Pritchard and Hauser can add meaningful minutes in the season AND post-season, I think we have a winner.

The only think that worries me is injuries to Al and Porz. No depth.

Pritch is a legitimate MVP candidate. I wouldn't be surprised if he led the league in scoring.

Watching the game tonight before football. Porzingis is a human cheat code. I hope he stays healthy.
Pritch is playing like he belongs in the regular rotation, but I'd like to see him play more point. I'm not sure, but he may just be a shooting guard.

Haven't watched any pre-season so curious what you mean by this, it's interesting

Watch Pritchard and let me know what you think. He has always been able to stop and start, push the ball, and finish, but to me Pritchard looked a bit out of control. In the preseason Pritchard seemed, to me, to be consistently under control for the first time.
