Pats signing Cunningham to a 3 year deal!!!!

This thread brings me back to the days of us bickering about whether BB intended for Cannon to be a Guard or a Tackle and so many on here were like "Guard!" even though BB himself kept saying tackle.

At the time Cannon was drafted, the Pats still had Light & Vollmer at OT and had just drafted Solder... We already knew that he would miss a lot of his rookie year; so when he returned later that season the thought might've been to have him him as Brian Waters' backup/understudy at RG and leave the other backup C/G spots to Wendell & Donald Thomas, with Solder as the Swing Tackle... Light of course retired after the SB and Cannon then became Swing Tackle, so the point became moot fairly quickly...

Brady isnt a coach, GM, and the person who set the structure of the entire organization.

He’s the GOAT QB and I respect the hell out that though.
He was in Tampa.

6 SB championships.
72 years old in the coming offseason.

It's really not fair to expect him to rebuild this franchise from scratch at this point. I'm not sure what you expect him to do now that he hasn't been able to do the last 4 years. Love BB to bits and will be ever thankful for his part in the 6 rings. However, that was a younger BB, with a different QB, and different group of people around him. The BB that won those rings, and the people that won them with him, are all gone.

I get the feeling Kraft is stalking fan sites and making Bill do things accordingly.
He made Bill bring up Malik, and they had to show why he's not ready.
...

That is a really, really interesting take and it could be well be true. Bringing up Malik is definitely a fan move (I should talk!), but would Kraft actually force this on Bill? Very possible, but maybe he just suggested it in a somewhat serious way.

I think it was one of the sports writers (Bedard?), not one of the idiot hosts like Fleger or Jones, who thought that when Malik is in there, it telegraphs to the defense that the next play will be a run. If so, then, yikes, that does not help very much.

You speak as if there is a rebuild button, you push it, and everything falls into place.
4 years is absolutely not a long time in rebuild terms. Expecting every thing to go perfectly and be back on top on 4 years is expecting catching lightning in a bottle

Do you agree the offense needs to be rebuilt?

I think Malik is a great tanking option.
Zappe and Grier will not be here next year ...
Malik will be here ... he needs the game to slow down ...
putting him in now will help that process ... regardless of eventual use.

No.

All Brady.

You've seen in the last 3 years what a good defense and a **** qb gets you.

No playoffs.
Defense during our first 3 SBs played a bigger role than you’d like to give credit for.

Brady was a big part no doubt but we still needed a strong defense to get past teams like Indy and the greatest show on turf.

Of course.
Right. We agree on the need for a full rebuild on offense. And you said earlier that "4 years is absolutely not a long time in rebuild terms." BB will be 72 come draft day. Do you see where I'm going?

Again, love coach BB and believe him to be the unquestioned GOAT no matter what anyone else says. There just comes a time when it doesn't make sense to hang on anymore. Some of his most loyal former players also agree. Bruschi even said straight up he'd like for Bill to fight to finish this year with as much dignity as possible and hang 'em up after the season.

I just am not like the Fellowship of the Miserable who have taken over the board, and do not feel a need to get angry and throw blame around. Belichick is the best that has ever done it. This is true whether it is at the time if his highest high, or his lowest low. To feel entitled that you deserve perfection in a role where it is impossible doesn’t work for me.
Belichick staying for as long as we wishes is what is best in the long run for this organization. Everything he can contribute up until he chooses to leave benefits the organization. Now may be the most important time for him to be here to keep the organization centered and focused in the right direction.
Rebuilding after going to 4 SBs in 5 years and winning 3 of them is uncharted territory. To assume the first run at a rebuild falling short equals incompetence is ignorant of the reality of the NFL.

Nope I am just objective and not a whiny *****.

If Brady is not available the Patriots should sign Joe Montana to be their next QB.

4 Super Bowl championships!
I don’t think Joe wants to play any more.
