Mac and the "It Factor"

You have things all confused as usual.

I am a Pats Troll. What that means is unlike you, I call out ALL players dragging the TEAM down. The dopey testicle grabber especially. I have stated numerous times that I want BB to win a championship without Brady for obvious reasons that even you can figure out.

You are a Mac Troll. Quite frankly, I disrespected you when I falsely claimed that Kasmir was the leader of the Mac Trolls. Please accept my sincerest apology. When it comes to making up new excuses for Mac Jones nobody can touch you. Kasmir needs to up his sorry game yesterday.

In summary:

Pats Troll - I want the Pats to win. Specifically BB.

Mac Troll - You want Mac to win. Testicle boy can throw an INT directly to the defense and within minutes you're blaming the WR, OL, Refs, Goodell, weather, Trump and on and on and on.

Once again, zero self awareness.

You want Mac to lose so you can say you were right about him. Rooting against Mac is rooting against the Patriots. Mac is the Patriots' QB this year whether you like it or not. You want him to fail and by extension you want the Patriots to fail.

I want Mac to do well because if he does well, the team does well.

And I really don't care about you enough to be disrespected by you. I didn't take what you said to anyone else personally or anything you say to me, but I don't think you should be calling anyone else out for being a troll because you consistently engage in trollish behavior.

Just like the media wanted Fields to be a hero so badly.

It was not just the media. Lots of Bears fans believed in Fields when it was obvious he was a bust. No idea where all of the delusion came from.

Fields is a good argument for dissent and QB criticism. Even then, I don't think a balanced or unbalanced outlook makes the QB any better. The proof is always in the pudding.

Good so why do you want them to downgrade at QB. There’s nobody on or off the roster available who is an improvement. That doesn’t help the team win.

Some of us wanted the team to trade up to get Fields. Yikes

Fields was a really good passer at Ohio State and checks all the boxes athletically. It's actually a surprise that he is doing so poorly in the NFL.

With all 3 of the likely busts from 2021 (Wilson, Lance, and Fields) the issue is that they -- so far -- just can't process NFL defenses fast enough.

All three are more athletically gifted than Mac, but unlike them, Mac can process defenses pre and post snap and deliver accurately with anticipation.

As a reminder, here's what Dark Ages Belichick said about QB's when he was at Cleveland:

Reflecting further on Mac:

I'm pleased that he's playing much better this year under pressure this year than last, where where he was 5th in EPA/play when not pressured but awful under pressure. I was worried about his composure coming into this year, but that seems to have improved.

I'm also pleased to see him getting more out of his athleticism and playing better off platform.

But what I still wonder about is the last part of Belichick's litany: "can't be sloppy fundamentally". Both JT's recent write up and another QB analysis from this year that I posted earlier are finding fault with his footwork being sloppy, i.e. he relies on his arm too much and doesn't always set his feet properly to get full power in his throws, even when not under pressure. He's actually really accurate throwing off balance and on the run, but in the NFL he needs to maximize his power to throw into NFL windows.

It's clear he works hard, and he is certainly intelligent (#1 NCAA student athlete across all sports in 2020), but it's not clear to me he has anything like the steely resolve and precision that Brady notoriously had.

I think that may be the missing "It" for Mac: can he perfect his technique and play the position without too often lapsing into sloppiness.

First game I watched Purdy play I was like “oh **** the Niners with the Brady’esque draft pick.”There’s WAY more signs than this long before that coming out party. Brady’s was the best QB in the league from 2004 on, but already had two rings. Rodgers with the Fantasy Football year in 2012, but he already had a ring, Mahomes, Peyton, even Eli, Tua, Purdy.

Believing Andy Dalton could defeat post-season defenses/QBs _next season_ with a new WR was like a gambling addiction.

QBs have a reputation for being impossible to draft with NFL teams, yet smart teams that have had all-time historic quarterbacks (Niners, Packers) seem to be pretty good at it. Even if it’s just one Kaepernick highlight year, they’re still getting them. Even the Cowboys are decent at it. Other teams just aren’t, like the Browns.

I don’t want to extend Mac. I don’t want to chase media hyped prospects early. Patriots should know what it’s primarily looking for: big game poise, potentially elite pocket awareness, Laser accuracy. Or an obvious Lamar Jackson/RGIII as an in-between.

Definitely need a culture cultivator even if it isn’t a franchise quarterback. Mac Jones teammates didn’t even do anything after the Jets were throwing him all around. If that was Brady, Mahomes, even Rodgers his very first snap as a Jet, people would have been getting Gronk-tossed, whistles would be blowing, and flags would have been flying.

Build an all world defense and take the best O-linemen on the board. Prepare the team for a real successor.

Triple Yikes!!! Anyone that wanted Fields is not a draft visionary.

I can't imagine anything as strange as hating Mac but liking Tua and Purdy. And Mac was media hyped? I can't recall anything from the media early on about Mac except "high floor low ceiling". Is that hype to you?

Tua and Purdy basically have the same limitations. The only difference is the teams around them.

I swear NFL fans have the shortest memories. Before hill/mcdaniels got to Miami all we heard was Tua was too short and had a weak arm. Then you bring in waddle/hill and an offensive minded coach and all of a sudden he looks great again. Jimmy G looked great on the niners too.

QBs don't perform in a bubble as much as fans want to say they do. I honestly doubt if we threw either of those 2 QBs behind this line with these receivers all of a sudden we are lighting it up, putting up 70 points with Parker turning into Tyreek hill and Bourne into deebo.

And honestly Macs stats are pretty much fine. He's top 10 in all QB stats. He definitely belongs in the league. Imagine if he had fields stats or even Trevor Lawrence? Honestly with a different QB could be much worse. Fans are acting entitled and spoiled.

Even finding a QB who can start in this league is hard. See the Jersey, bears etc.

Yeah there was talk that if only Mac was available at 15 the Patriots should trade down. Some even said he was a day 3 pick. Mac was definitely not hyped.

And Purdy is not better than Mac in any aspect of the position. There’s nothing special about Purdy’s game. There's a good reason why he's Mr Irrelevant.

Unless the Patriots crater which will never happen under BB chances are they won’t find that guy by draft. Those attributes also might not be obvious until they play.

Finding a good NFL QB is really hard. Takes teams years even decades to get it right. There’s also no guarantee a top draft pick is even as good as Mac Jones. It’s why the Zappe stuff drove me nuts. He is not even close to good but too many fans think he is only because Brady was found on the bench so logically the next guy will be too. It’s not that easy. You need both luck and skill in talent evaluation.

The team will keep drafting QBs no matter what until they find someone better. They’ve been doing it for years.

I think they will extend him because they have learned from their past mistakes (not being prepared ie cam)...I hope...

I'd argue that Mac reads defenses and goes through his progressions better than Tua still.......Tua knows that offense, he knows where his quick windows are and hits them.......but the moment he feels pressure or things aren't there, he struggles.......he tried to give that game away vs the Pats in the 2nd half

They should. Mac is cerebral and if we have a solid line he can make it work with middling receivers through precision and Increased time.

you mean mental tools are more important than physical tools for the modern NFL QB? no way?!

I’ll have what he’s having
He better win because 1 - 3 is a deep hole to come out of. The next 4 games have no pushovers like the Jets.
