Trent Brown contract revision

last year Brown signed a 2 year deal
Browns new incentives and bonuses are all weight related and snap count related. none of the bonus money is about wins, playoffs, pro bowls or such.
his base salary last season was $1.5m and this season is $4m. he rcvd a $2.5m sign bonus.
all other bonuses are games played, snap counts, weight.
if he plays, he gets more money. if he misses time, he loses money.

PFF player grades are silly, but this this can't be right?

He's out of shape, a massive liability and he can't play the left side... that about cover it?

What about his run-blocking snaps?

With that Gear my man Trent looks like a cool Easter Egg.
With his talk of being excited to hit free agency at the end of the year I don’t mind saying that.
Also he seems to only play when he wants to, no guarantee whatever team including us gives him that guaranteed money they are going to get full effort,
I would not give him big guaranteed money unless their is a out clause.

Where can I get someone to pay me an extra $2M to show up for work every day for the next three months?
Convince Bill Belichick he needs you playing LT for the Pats.

By all accounts Brown played very well on Sunday. I wonder why that is...

He is very good when he wants to be.
From his comments, especially about Scar, I think Trent wants to be good but really needs good coaching to bring that desire into reality.

yes he is, when he is mentally engaged and physically fit. Trent has had issues with both
My recollection (and it's been known to be bad) is that the mentally engaged parts were when he played for the Raiders (and I don't think he's the only player who has had that problem there) and the healthy parts have been here. People point to last year but neglect to mention that he was playing sick or injured for much of the later part of the season last year.

Scar seemingly put a ton of work into Brown and he was able to leverage that into a big pay day. The talent is there it is sometimes the motivation ($) that is lacking.

My recollection is that he earned his payday with the Raiders by having a very good season with the Patriots in 2018. Scar’s coaching and Trent’s play helped win the Super Bowl that year.

He was on IR for the Pats in ‘21 and ‘22 was the Dumpster Fire offense. If he needs good coaching 2022 wasn’t a good example for him.

Right, but then the Raiders were unhappy with his play, where he got the reputation for not being motivated (iirc).

Funny, his first year with the Raiders he was named to the Pro Bowl. Probably still a carryover from Scar’s coaching. Then the Raiders blamed him for regressing instead of looking in a mirror?

Brown said his biggest regret was leaving the Pats & Scar and if could go back he would have stayed with the Pats.

I recall reading that. Went for money. Should’ve stayed for love.

Brown has been that way since college. When he was at UF he wasn't regarded as a hard worker and didn't play as much as he should have due to conditioning issues and ended up as a 7th round pick. From his draft profile on NFL.com:

"That staff didn't feel like he was always reliable as a player. He's got a good ceiling, but you have to factor in that low floor too." -- SEC defensive coach
Scouts call him an "inconsistent worker."
Played just 43 percent of the snaps during 2014 season due to injury and conditioning issues

In his rookie year Von Miller called him the best RT in football and a year or so later he was traded us because we basically were willing to move from the 3rd to the 5th round to get him. He played well here when Scar rode his ass and he parlayed that into a big payday only to end up here 2 years later in a late round pick swap. He has all the talent in the world he is just constantly needs the motivation ($) to play well. Right now the team seems to be willing to pay up to get the performance out of him.
