Speculation about why Belichick is still coaching

Boy is that a reach. Bill picked up Patricia and Judge because he didn't have to pay them a penny and Judge is still here for the same reason.
A reach but at least that would make those decisions make more logical sense on paper anyway...otherwise SMH.

Patricia and Judge were paid salaries by the Patriots as were Bielema and Lombardi before them. What the Pats have been accused of is understating the role of these guys lowering the scale of their salary paid by the Pats thus lowering the offset from the salaries owed them by their former employers. The Patriots are still paying Judge on the scale of an Assistant HC or you can be sure the Giants would complain to the league about it.

Absolutely, but he svcks at drafting the most important player on a team. Jimmy is the only exception and he gets hurt combing his hair.

Secondly, BB doesnt know how to identify and draft a young productive WR in an NFL structured towards passing.
Didn’t he draft the GOAT?

Why is Bill still coaching? He likes football? I would coach too if I could. He’s good at it too so that helps. Hope he passes Shula.

Not difficult to understand why, Shula may be a factor, but in reality he is and always will be considered the best at what he does. Fans often minimize what he has done, but have little idea of what it was like in the days of the inept coaching carousel in days gone yore. He will be a first ballot Football HOF coach and the Kraft family will hasten his enshrinement into the Pats HOF.

Comparing him to Shula is folly as what Shula did was prior to the salary cap... it is a completely different standard now.

He already has a defensive game plan for the Giants from '90 Superbowl in the Football HOF..

His drive comes from the disrespect Shula gave him. Totally unwarranted. Shula was petty.

The analogy is right there. Brady was disrespected in the draft process. Earlier by the platooning at Michigan with Drew Henson that everyone thought was The Next Great Thing.

Human will is the most important variable in the universe. It’s there for us Patriots fans to see with these two.

Bleacher Reports says the one from the Rams game joined it. I thought it was Super Bowl LIII but BR says 2001.
Sorry the link is ugly, had trouble posting it, had to hack Ian’s site a bit (Sorry Ian, is that a bug or a feature that I bypassed?).

Here’s a good recap for those who forget or missed Bill’s throttling of McVay’s much vaunted Rams in Super Bowl LIII:

I understand your sentiments here but you are giving Bill the coach a pass because of Bill the GM. Newton just didn't happen. Bill left the QB room bare when Brady left and had to scrap Newton off the heap in late June. If you remember prior to signing Newton, everyone thought Bill was sold on Stidham because he did not draft a QB that season after Brady left. Obviously he was not sold on Stidham to even come in relief of a decrepit Cam mid season.

Mac showed a lot of promise his rookie year but then Bill did the inexplicable and gave him Patricia as his OC setting his development back to where this has become a make it or break year for Mac.

From a team building and management stand point, I wish Kraft moved off of Bill a long time ago ...
It's not about giving anyone a pass. My point is that if we have an actual QB capable then BB is still the best path to winning. The next guy/s might screw up choosing a QB too but if he gets it right the next guy could still fail as a coach.

This explains why Bill is content with a perennial 8-9 win team these days rather than building a true Super Bowl contender. I guess we’re at the mercy of his personal vendetta now.

This is an idiotic post. If Belichick’s goal was to pass Shula’s record he could have gone out and mortgaged the future for a free agent QB, move up in the draft for higher prospects, or spent everything to get a winner now. Instead he has been rebuilding systematically, they have tons of money heading into the next free agency, and have plenty of draft picks.

Imo Belichick has always wanted to leave the Patriots rebuilt as a consistent contender after the end of the Brady era. And his actions both in players, coaches, and front office personnel all point in that direction. I’m sure he would love to win another SB, pass Shula’s record, and leave them in great shape for the future, but I think that leaving them out of $$$ and in shambles as an organization was never going to happen under his watch. They now have a young team, a very good defense, a very good run game, but work still to be done with their OL and passing attack. They were able to keep Mayo around, added Klemm for the OL, and were able to get Groh and Wolf to stay, despite the efforts of other franchises to poach them. Imo Belichick will stay through 2024, and then retire completely. I doubt he will stay on as the GM when he retires from coaching. We will see what happens, but that’s my take on it.

He's said this pretty much since the day he was hired.

But if Mac doesn't work out then I hope he and Kraft say F it and go all in and shut everyone up.

Many of these inane discussions about BB, his future and his legacy seem to be fueled by Sports Talk radio that has morphed into nothing than nontroversy/controversy generators..
When it is said and done BB will always be in the conversation as the greatest HC of all time..

I've said this before (to less than universal acclaim, lol): I don't think it's possible fruitfully to discuss Bill without distinguishing Bill the Coach from Bill the GM. Bill the GM, I think, needs to be booted out to pasture. I love Bill the coach. I do think he's earned the right to coach pretty much as long as he wants to. And Shula always struck as the sort of creepy sansabelt-wearing guy you avoid whenever possible. Go for that record, Bill. But hire a GM first.

Didn’t he draft the GOAT?
After **** Rehbien pleaded with Belichick to take him.

If BB traded every 2000 draft pick to take Brady then you could sell the narrative that BB is the QB genius.

He didnt. Brady was exposed for 6 rounds.

People keep saying that but Bill the GM has built a hell of a good defense, has brought in two very good TEs, drafted one of the top 2 QBs from that draft class (even though he was drafted 15th), a great pair of RBs, got a good group of WR2s and a passable OL.

People who don’t like Bill the GM are people who want an expensive WR1. And I’m fine with that complaint, but I think it’s a pretty minor one considering our history without a WR1).

Bill the GM is doing just fine.

Belichick has nothing left to prove. Except win without Brady.

He drafted him, you said he can’t draft QBs. He may be the best qb drafter of all time since he drafted the GOAT.

Defense is one thing but how about the WRs? Let Meyers go to sign Juju who is damaged goods. Extends Parker when he could have used that money to sign Hopkins.

BB cant draft QBs or WRs.
