Speculation about why Belichick is still coaching

@EMpats Your coach has a very great talent. I don't think you are aware how great it is.
Can you describe the type of person he’s been communicating with? In detail?

Nahh I am not so against this. If they make it and lose in round 1 I say maybe another year depending on how they lose
I think I agree with Kontra here. I’m not one to complain here much but I think if this team continues to spin it’s wheels then eventually you need to consider moving on and it’s not because Belichick is a bad coach. I just wonder if the team is stuck in a spot and needs to be bad before they can be good again. I don’t doubt moving on from Belichick would mean a 5 win season but maybe that would help with draft picks and finding the future of this team? I guess we’ll see.

Maybe Bill also knew a 5 win season would "help" too, hence Matt Patricia, Offensive Co-ordinator. At least that would make that whole thing last season make some sense....

I agree with him too. No POs move on. 1 and out possible but I would at least look at how it happened etc

Weird how when Brady went to Tampa so many justified the team's lukewarm approach by saying Brady only has a few years left and should go to a contender. In fact Bill would be best served coaching a few more years with a ready to go contender. LA Chargers and Cowboys stand out as talented teams with head coach concerns. Reid might retire soon as well.

Who. EM pats or the coach ?
The coach. The one with the great gift. He’s communicating with someone via telepathy. I dare you to say who it is.

Great talent. It’s great football coaching talent. Telepathy? Not sure what that is. is that from a movie or something ?

Bill is the GOAT, but I think he should be more worried about proving he can build a contender without Brady than some stupid longevity record to spite someone who is already dead.
Agreed! I'm sure the Shula record is on his wish list.. but I believe BB is a just passionate about what he does.

As he said beats working.. getting 25 Million to do something you love. I'd be pretty passionate as well. But I definitely agree.. I want him to win post brady. Winning post brady, and creating a perennial contender would do more to cement his legacy than breaking a wins record IMO.

This is weird. Is it possible he is still coaching because he’s a competitor and that he has lead NE to six SB titles ?

There haven’t been 60. So he has been the HC as the Patriots have won over 10% of all SBs ever.

It’s fair to question if BB is slipping or if he can turn it around and rebuild a winner. But I think « he’s still coaching » because he likes it, he enjoys competition, he loves the league (the concept, maybe not the current trends), he gets paid handsomely, and he’s been the most successful HC in the sport’s history.

Again, BB is the GOAT and I VERY much appreciate what I have gotten to experience because of him. I think the tendency of some to say it was all Brady because of the past few years is ridiculous. BB is the greatest coach of all time.

I just don't subscribe to the notion that he gets a free pass for the rest of his career because of his success. He wanted to prove that he could win without Brady. I get why he would want that, but it hasn't worked out yet. If he is truly thinking about a personal record as a part of his motivation (I actually think this report may not be true), I don't think that's a great reflection on the current and future state of the Pats.

Look. We know you hate the team and that’s all good etc

But Jimmy G, Brady , Brissett and Jones is not sucking at drafting QBs
Too funny.

**** Rehbien begged Belichick to draft Brady. How many times does the story need to be told before its sinks in? Furthermore, BB didnt know that Brady was that good or he would never waited 6 rounds to get him.

Jimmy, Brisket and Jones? Jimmy choked in the big game and the other 2 have never won 5hit.

Yeah it's not like he drafted the greatest QB who ever lived. The dude really has never drafted a good QB....
Clown

Why did BB wait 6 rounds to draft Brady?

Just remember 2001. Nobody thought the Pat's had anything. After the Rams beat them in the regular season in a close game, Martz told the Rams players they beat a SB quality team. That was the first time anybody thought the Pat's were good enough that year....and it still took the Tuck Rule and a legendary kick to just win a single home playoff game.

Bill put that team, and other SB winners together. It's also not like the Pat's have become the Cardinals. Last year showed that. Even with that horrible Offense, they were still competitive....not some 4-13 trash.

A lot of you seem spoiled beyond reason. This team, with the hardest schedule in the league, may only win 7 games...or 11....I don't know, but they already look a hell of a lot better than last year.

I'm giving BB the coach as much grace as he needs or wants.

BB the GM I was ready to kick to the curb....but this last draft group looks real good.

This year has 2001 vibes to me. Not necessarily a SB, but a team that performs above expectations. The Eagles Offense sure looked a lot better last night didn't they?

I almost forgot....fk Don Shula.

Absolutely, but he svcks at drafting the most important player on a team. Jimmy is the only exception and he gets hurt combing his hair.

Secondly, BB doesnt know how to identify and draft a young productive WR in an NFL structured towards passing.
It could've been worse. What if Mac went to the 49ers and only Trey Lance was available at 15? I still understand the Fields love.

The offense is in dire need of explosive talent. Mac's margin of error is slim to none. They also need to design plays around his limitations like Shanahan does with Purdy who has a pretty putrid arm as well.
I know you’re going to hate to hear this, but I’d be on board with the team cutting bait if they don’t win a playoff game this year. The only exception I’d make to that is if the team suffers a key injury (I.E., Mac). Then I’d give him one more year. If not, I’m good with it if that’s the direction the Krafts want to go. Most coaches get 2-3. Some get 1. He gets 5-6 years. Seems fair.
I don't think Kraft cans him for a couple reasons. One, Kraft is too old and doesn't have the patience to take a risk on an unknown from the outside as we're assuming the entire staff gets cleaned out as well. An in house replacement would make even less sense because they'd most likely run the team like Bill.

The second reason is would Kraft have the balls to fire a coach with the most rings in NFL history after 4 years post Dynasty? Unless the team comes in last place, loses every divisional game (unlikely now) and has less than 7 wins would be a pretty bad look on Bob. John Harbaugh has lingered around since his only fluke Super Bowl win 10 years ago. He has 2 playoff wins within the last 10 years.

But I thought Belichick has never drafted a good QB or something.

That's pretty funny dismissing Jimmy for making a Super Bowl.... then again he did draft the smurf a UDFA level talent in the 4th round... that's ok nobody is perfect.

Matt Cassel. He was fantastic in 2008 and saved their season. It's a shame we never got to see them in the playoffs because I think they were going to make some serious noise.

Good point. Forgot that one !

Ok would you change your statement to BB sucks at drafting QBs that don’t win superbowls and/or drafting them where I think they should be drafted ???

Is that a fair compromise?
