Very sad news: RIP Joker

Joker had the rare combination of being a genuinely good guy and having the courage to express himself without a filter - even if it hurt a feeling or two. If more folks had a little Joker in them (Insert joke here) then this world would be a better place.

I felt I didn't give Joker the proper tribute yesterday. So I am giving him a part 2.

I never met Joker, but we had one on one interactions on DM. Even so, I felt he was as close a friend I had on this board. We would joke back and forth a lot. More so in the past than recent years, but I have spent less time on this board than I used to.

I think Joker's humor was his greatest strength in his posting. Other than PatJew, he might have been the funniest guy on this board the time I was here. I firmly believe you don't have a good sense of humor unless you can laugh at yourself and Joker had the best self deprecating humor. He could make jokes about the Pats, but some of his funniest jokes were about himself.

Joker brought a lot to this board in knowledge, passion, and humor. He was a true fan. You got a good sense he live quite the colorful life when he would share some of his personal stories. He always had the best avatars that suited his personality.

The board will never be the same without him.

holy ****

I've always loved Joker on these forums, including his poetic nature when it comes to Goodell... This is awful news

You will be missed my friend, may you RIP....

On a side note…listening to all the Joker stories…it would be cool to have meet-ups around the US and elsewhere for game day. I’m partial to Patriots bars myself. We’ll pop one in honor of Joker.

We lived in Bawlmore from July 2007 - July 2008, so a couple of times I drove to watch non-nationally-broadcast Pats games that season at a place called Murphy's in Old Town Alexandria VA... It was as if I were watching the games at the old Dockside on State Street... Haven't been there since, but I believe they're still a Patriots bar on Sundays...

The first one I have at kickoff Sunday night will be in his honor, no doubt about it.

Very sad to hear this, my thoughts go out to his friends and family. Joker was a TRUE Pat's fan, I remember seeing him on this board often, as well as for quite some time, so I'm very sad to hear of his passing. 72 still seems young to me, really hurts to hear this, I'm sure he was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed. Seemed like a really great guy.

I wish I could find the post, but he put together an absolute quality rant about Zappe in one of the preseason game threads. Put a picture of the banjo player from “Deliverance” in there. I’ve searched, but can’t find it. Hopefully that wasn’t deleted by a mod.

This one isn't the one you were talking about but still made me laugh

He didn't post a photo (no history attached to it, which is normally there if a post is edited by someone). Looks like he mentioned it but didn't post an image.

EDIT: Image was posted further in the thread:

Thanks for trying. It was neither of those. IIRC, he said something about Zappe going back to Appalachia. Searched that word and didn’t find it, either.

Murphy's is still going strong as a Patriots bar. I live in Northern Virginia and have gone there a few times, once taking a visiting friend and fellow
Pats fan from Massachusetts. He loved the place, a home away from home. Joker would have given it a thumbs up.

I always wondered if Joker was JokerSC in the PFT comments. Maybe he wasn't... no rants there lol
