Because they don’t have an alternative yet at QB2. That should change soon. I’ll expect them to sign a vet. Or Corral returns to the team.

So it looks like the report that Corral was cut wasn’t true. Reserve/Left Squad doesn’t let him sign with another team, he is still a Patriot.

Pats were always going to elevate Zappe for this game (and likely the next two as well). So Zappe better off on our PS than someone else's. So low risk to put him on the PS.

At one point it looked like the Pats could do the emergency QB thing until the NFL nixed that. So decent strategy by the Pats.

Since then we've had the Jones injury, and the Corral mystery, so we are back where we started with Zappe (except contract is different). They still control Corall too.

I thought of this too and then laughed, but…

I can kind of.. sort of… see a way where this is a response to the last-minute rule change from the NFL. “Oh we can’t have a PS QB be our number 2 and our guy on the 53 be our emergency freebie number 3? Well, we’ll just make one guy ‘exempt’ and then have the other guy take his temporary roster spot until he’s ready…”

That said, Corral being exempt means he won’t be practicing so I really doubt this is the case, but it’s so bizarre that it makes me suspicious lol
