Zappe is back as QB2 Corral on Reserve/Left Squad list

Corral has never taken a single regular season snap....not one. No team is looking at that and thinking "we need to sign him to our 53" at this point. He's a good fit for a PS in 2023.

They may also feel somewhat secure in Corral making it to the PS knowing that they were the only team that submitted a claim for him. Of course, Corral has to agree to sign instead of maybe going back to Carolina’s PS, but he little chance of being more than the QB3 there. He has a chance of beating out Zappe in NE.
Then why wasn't he practicing? Suggests that there is significant doubt he will join (or perhaps even be invited to join) the PS.

I wonder if Corral is the long-term backup QB, but is not ready yet so they rotated Zappe in for a few games.....this might work, if some other team does not grab Corral.

Nah you clueless bastahd. He's gone. The world is ending.

*Unless he decides he wants to sign with Carolina. Either way it's really insignificant.

But I mean we need to cry about everything and oh Bill is a dumbass and clearly the ass crack showing plumbahs know how to run a team better than him. They just don't have the time ya know. Those damn pipes keep busting.

If they felt that to be the case, they didn’t have to make these roster moves. They could have just elevated Zappe from the practice squad on game day for the first three games.

Yes this is all normal roster changes, nothing to see here move on
Just like making your dc OC for your 2nd year qb.
Not at all comparable, at least in my book.
The OC is in control of a third of the team.
The OC is pretty hard to replace from training camp on.
Our backup QB is a replacement level player.
The MP move was far, far worse.

imagine if zappe got claimed. this could've been an absolute disaster
Nah, I'm sure they have a list of 5-10 guys they felt they could call in the unlikely event that someone wanted Zappe enough to give him a spot on their 53, all probably guys we've never heard of.

but i'm sure posters will pretend all is fine. cutting your backup, then signing him back and cutting the backup you cut your backup for! all a day before the season opener
Just tryin' to make the team better...

I just don't understand the outcry. He's never taken a snap, does not know the plays, has no rapport with the receivers and was cast off by the Panthers but we need him to be the QB2 backup?

BB has surely made some brilliant moves and some incredibly stupid ones...but this is truly insignificant....agreed.

Fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants roster management at the most important position in sports.
Back up QB is the most important position in sports?

I don't get all the *****ing. How hard is it to understand. They wanted to upgrade to a Veteran at QB2. Injuries on the line forced them to keep more lineman than I am sure they liked.

They had to make a cut somewhere, they were (rightly) confident Zappe would not get claimed. They made a few attempts to get a Vet QB post cutdown, once they could IR some folks they wanted back this season, it didn't work out.

They then took a flier on an intriguing kid at QB. They knew the rule didn't prevent them from having Corral as QB2 and Zappe as the emergency QB.

Then the NFL being the NFL made a fly by night rule change. To keep Bill from taking advantage of the rule. So in order to have a competent back up that is familiar, and I use that term loosely, with the playbook they sign Zappe to the 53. In doing so they cut a kid that has been here a week.

What is all the belly aching about? It's a net zero at the position. And it helped get a guy we want this season to go on short term IR.

I try not to attack the Pat’s front office, except their drafts (and rightfully so some years), but this is the type of stuff we used to make fun of other franchises of during the Pat’s dynasty years. These QB maneuvers the last 10 days are ridiculous.

And if any of those teams were asleep during the waiver window, or wanted to wait till Week 1 to make moves, they could have claimed Zappe off our PS right up until he got moved to our 53, but none did.

Face it, people, the league as a whole (including the Pats) see Zappe as a replacement level guy.

And even under the old rules IIRC they could only do this for three weeks, then we'd be at the same point we're now at: fish or cut bait with Corral.

All the reports we had from Carolina was that he was a development player at least a year away from playing, so chances are strong we'd have cut him in three weeks.

So they should’ve kept Zappe on the 53 and sign Corral to the PS, why the weird shenanigans ?

Seems you're longing for the stability and positional mediocrity of the Hoyer QB2 years.

Easy to do with the GOAT as QB1, more of a challenge these days.

Because you can't take someone off of another teams PS just to put him on your PS, you have to put him on your 53.

That's what we did with Corral and were planning to use the 'emergency QB' rule to have Zappe eligible, but Park Avenue **** canned that.

Baffled by the new QB rules I am guessing but not sure.
