Disappointed, i had high hopes for strong. He was great against Arizona last year. If this tackle works out Ill obviously happily take it but this dudes a prospect at most right now.

Reports also say Wheatley was a cut candidate so unless Strong wasn’t long for this team either (possible) it’s odd they’d swing a trade for a guy they could have had for free in a couple of days.
OT is in short supply around the league, so assuming you'd be able to claim him on waivers is a pretty hefty gamble.

If Wheatley makes the open day roster then I’m fine with this deal. I thought Strong looked good against the Cards showing some game breaking ability. I hope the Pats didn’t give up on him too soon.

I hope this means Montgomery is healthy. Don’t really like Harris or Taylor as the third string back. I wonder if they only carry 3 backs then have a couple on the practice squad.

I do appreciate them trying to upgrade at tackle because that the biggest need on the team.

You're assuming that other teams wouldn't have put in a waiver claim for the guy. The Browns were looking for a RB to replace Jakeem Grant who just went down with a serious injury.

Ok let’s get one or two more o lineman please.
The group has been dreadful.

Didn’t see Pierre Strong giving us much of a contribution anyhow. Rhamondre, Zeke, JJ Taylor should be our top backs.

I think that K. Harris and Ty Montgomery remain ahead of Taylor. Not sure why people think otherwise.

Yes. Another reason trading up to get the kicker in the draft was a questionable move. Sow can be a tackle, but needs development and continuity.

Interesting get, I’d rather get a player on the fringes of someone else’s roster than a throwaway pick. Good luck to PSJ

Bedard kicked around the idea that the Patriots might go with only 2 RB's on the initial 53.

If Reiff, Strange are out, and Onwenu is limited, could they be thinking of moving Sow over to guard for part of the opener? He has good push, and despite what this board claims, looks horrible in pass protection at the tackle spot. Like never going to get it type of horrible IMO.

This could be our starting right tackle on opening night.
Why would they move Sow to LG when they've had MAFI playing there?

Giving up on a 4th round RB after 1 year uggh. Let's hope this guy can contribute. It would not be a wasted pick.

Maybe the Pats new thing is finding former TEs who convert to being linemen. He and Keion can start a club.

Ty Monty looks great in shorts and on paper is a versatile piece to employ on third down. I’ve always been high on him.

But in today’s projected 53 by Lazar at patriots.com he doesn’t have him making the team. Can’t stay healthy.

I think a good case can be made that Taylor is ahead of Harris with Zeke and Mondre 2 and 1 on the depth chart. Nice change of pace back with balance and elusiveness. Great on screens like in the last preseason game, for example.

Because Sow is the better athlete, is more experienced by a wide margin at the position, and has the prototype nfl length.

Moving him to RT has been a move borne out of desperation as McD beat out aged Reiff at RT. But the former practice squad player lacks the ability to pass block well.

Who said they gave up on Strong? You're assuming that the Browns would have accepted Harris instead in the trade. They weren't going to accept JJ Taylor.

Strong would have been our 3rd or 4th back behind Stevenson and Elliot. Montgomery might be slated as the 3rd down back, though the Pats could use whomever is up in the rotation.

If you think that the Patriots didn't watch Wheatley's pre-season game tape prior to making this trade, then I don't know what to tell you.

Giving up the 3rd/4th RB on the roster to guarantee they have a player at a position of need isn't a bad deal. As mentioned, there's a very good chance that Wheatley is the starting RT if Reiff can't go.

I think 3 rbs rham, the ewok and jj... Though jj might get practice squad for the initial 53

As for the line, I have no idea what they are going to do... If Wheatley is serviceable you might see sow move to guard... Leaves mcdermott at left? Ferentz left guard, Andrews center sow right guard and really no idea who starts at RT...

Wheatley at RT kinda scares me tbh

Maybe a serviceable vet get squeezed out on cut down day who can do in a pinch... Think we need some experience in that spot, considering Mac's propensity to take sacks instead of getting rid of the ball
