NO! Felger proposals are generally horseshit. He wouldn't last 5 minutes with a real job in football. Every time he opens his mouth, I want to strike up the band, "Listen to the ******** fly" on 4.

I would only if the price is minimal and that's assuming the team doesn't see Cunningham as a viable QB3 (and I don't think they do).

No way I'm giving up Zappe. Zappe has shown more than Lance has to date and it's good to have QB depth.

Physical gifts are great, but it's the head that can overcome that, and because of that, I'd prefer Zappe over Lance. Lance has been somewhat of a trainwreck since getting drafted, and his turnovers have been a killer. The kid has just been so up and down ... I thought he was better than Wilson but he still wasn't my top choice when he came out, and I still don't get why the 49ers were so enamored with him. Mac seemed like a better fit, but I guess, good for us that Shanahan passed on him.

I think it's hilarious Shanahan mishandled this situation that badly ... it's sort of crazy. He wasted three first-round picks, held Jimmy G hostage when Belichick clearly wanted him but tried to hold out to recoup a first-round pick, and stuck to that until Belichick walked away and Shanahan had to watch Mac (you know Belichick would have preferred not to draft a QB in round one and get a defensive guy instead) fall into our laps.

Even more funny was the fact he held out all the way until the end until he had no choice but to let Garoppolo walk away, and he got nothing to show for it. Had he not gone to a Super Bowl or had a deep playoff run last year, gambling away the club's future like that and mishandling the situation that badly would generally get most guys fired (I'm sure Belichick would be getting killed on here over this).

He's fortunate Purdy emerged, and he better hope the kid doesn't regress. Otherwise, it's probably going to get ugly out there. Their success is the only currency that's really helping him because I'd assume people would be all over him considering everything that's gone down.

I'd kick the tires with maybe a 6th round pick if I have a scout/QB coach/OC/HC who's really bullish on it.

Really depends on which team you're running. I'd think BAL, TB, NO, DEN, just those off the top of my head, would have more interest than the Pats.

the issue with trading for Lance is his contract. his 2023 base is guaranteed, and his 2024 money is also guaranteed $5.3m. for a 3rd or back up QB, plus add on trade compensation, that's a lot to swallow

I think it's pretty clear that Shanahan did the trade to get Mac, but ownership thought Trey Lance would excite fans more (which it did), and feared that Mac was at best Garoppolo 2.0.

IMO after Lawrence no QB in that draft was worth giving up 3 first round picks for, and in any case the Niners should have taken Justin Fields if they wanted the best dual threat QB.

Trey Lance barely played college football, lacks NFL accuracy, and is not even a good runner.

They have a GM in SF and Lynch is not a placeholder like Caserio was here.

I think Shanahan clearly told Lynch that he didn’t want Garroppolo and Lynch tried to play hard ball trying to get more and it backfired on them.

All of that to say that I don’t think Shanahan is handling trade negotiations in SF.

What's crazy is that, if I recall, the 49ers were at #12 and could have had Mac without even trading all that away. Just absolutely a bizarre turn of events, and looking at it years later, after Lance gets beaten out by Darnold for the backup spot, it now looks even worse.

I think he is so mentally shot that it would be difficult for him to overcome that . He has made his millions and would possibly prefer a life outside the limelight where everyone wants to prove he is the biggest bust on turf.

Unless you have mental fortitude in spades, impossible to come back from this .

If your life depended on it, you might try to do that . But Lance was an accidental first round QB propped up with so high expectations because of the trade capital that it becomes extremely challenging to recover. He might need to be a backup I a team like titans or Vikings or rams and take over in couple of years if he finds his athleticism or game back.

Just imagine if they had all the draft capital and drafted few other playmakers along with Mac at 12. They might have won last Superbowl or this one.

The amount of talent on that team is insane. We have a decent QB without giving away any draft capital. We got lucky.

Lance will net the niners a 3rd round compensatory pick when his contract expires so you can rule out them trading him for anything less than that.

he would also net the niners salary relief, so perhaps they would accept less?

biggest bust on turf?
he won the job last season and broke his ankle.
he has played 5 games. shouldn't he play some before saying he is a bust?

No because the more he plays the bigger a bust he becomes. He sucks

I've only seen the kid a few times but that does seem to cover it.
And it's why I voted no in the poll.
He really looked lost the last time I saw him play.

SF completely bungled that draft, but made up for it with Purdy in the 7th round a year later. Purdy is no flash in the pan and has saved more than 1 job in the SF hierarchy. If he stays healthy he can move that offense - very quick feet, high IQ, good enough arm.

The real problem is the way that infamous trade benefitted Miami, who ended up with Waddle & Tyreek using the assets they got from SF.

Howe says there are teams out there that think he's worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder lol.

Agreed.

I would take Lance over Zappe to be honest. His ceiling is much higher. But Bill will never trade for him just because of the money.

It's really not a lot of money. The Niners will be dealing with the dead cap hit, not whoever he is traded to.
