Because Judon, Wise, Guy, etc. etc. are busy practicing, or preparing for practice. Duh.

look, your reaction makes it clear you see no good reason to sign him, that was already obvious by your comments when you asked why sign him. So when people answer with a possible reason you’ve got to reject it, or you’d have to face the realization maybe there was a good reason you didn’t see. But you should realize that continuing to argue just shines a spotlight on it. And on the fact that you weren’t asking to learn, you were really making a statement disguised as a question. Problem is your statement of opinion is wrong, and just a pretext for arguing. No point in trying to have a discussion with you, you’ve shown yourself to be a troll.
Not at all. I am not saying there is no reason to sign him, I am saying it is ridiculous to assume he was signed in order to sit out all camp on pup and not be able to practice for 10 weeks.
The reason to sign him is for him to compete for a job. There is no cause to create a reason why they signed him if he can’t even practice for 10 weeks because there isn’t, and they didn’t.
So your holier than thou diatribe was based upon the fact that you had no clue what the actual point is.

And to clarify I am saying it’s ridiculous to believe they signed him expecting him to sit out all camp and the first 6 weeks, so he will be practicing, likely this week.
OK, I agree. I expect Flowers to be on the 53, and to be ready for Game One.

That being said, I think that Flowers would be an excellent signing, even if he were not expected to be available until Game 5. Signing him simply removes doubt, and makes him part of the team. BTW, personally, I would sign him to as long a contract as he is willing to sign. He is currently under 30 and is a major talent.

Or he may be cut. He is a bubble player. If for nothing other than not being able to stay healthy.
He has played in 18 of 50 games the last 3 years.
He was able to play a grand total of 65 downs last year and 687 over the last 3 combined. That’s about 20% availability.

The suggestion was he was signed with the INTENTION of going straight to in season PUP.
That means of all the available players we could sign we chose a guy who has missed 64% of the last 3 seasons in order to have him not participate in anything for 10 weeks on the hope that he might be healthy after that so he can get a tryout.

The only reason to sign him is if you believe his injuries are behind him.

How do you know that? He didn't show it in his last year at college so he dropped to the 6th round. He has about 6 catches at training camp and we know that?
Based on his college career in the SEC- prior to the ankle surgery was one of best wrs in the country and would've been a 1st round pick w/o the injury.
Was still decent when he returned but not as explosive. Ankle surgery can take a few years to get all the way back.
That combined with attitude issues scared teams off. But when/if he regains full explosiveness on his lower legs he has bigtime potential. Nothings guaranteed but he was a 6th round pick.
So nothing lost.
I'd take him over Nixon in a heartbeat if it came down to it.
He needs to show out in every preseason game. If he does that, BB needs to find a way to keep him.
Obviously, he'd be behind Parker,Juju,Bourne,DD and TT- regardless of how good he looks in any preseason games.

Yes I did.

One practice does not change the other 10 he has been invisible in.
Training Camp.. with all the new rules, policies in place. Teams can't tackle to the ground.. can't hit the QB.. it pretty much takes the physicality out. I just want out main guys to sit out and let the unproven players get run. It's all about week 1!

Agree with all of this - but that is not what other posters are saying. Agree with needs to show explosion post-surgery but was a 6th round pick so nothing lost.

I have seen nice catches (good body control and good hands), and nice routes. My question was has anyone seen explosiveness? I have not seen any explosion in the clips or reported by the sports media. Without the explosion, Boutte might be a good player on a rookie contract. Also have not seen any negative comments about attitude which is a good thing too. Agree that we need to see how he is in preseason.

Then why sign him now, instead of somebody at a position of greater need?
They have more than 1 roster spot available. Seriously. Everything with you is a knee-jerk reaction.
Players like Flowers are put on the PUP after signing if they haven't passed the Conditioning test. Not a big deal.

As this topic is a day old could I just ask a question....

With regard to tomorrow's game against the Texans..... is it unusual to go straight into a game with a team but not have joint practices first ?
There will probably be a simple answer but I don't see it !!....probably does not matter anyway.

10 teams are doing joint practices this week

20 teams are doing joint practices next week (including the Patriots)

10 teams are doing joint practices in week 3 (including the Patriots)

I should also have said.....joint practice and a game with the same team (not just a game alone)....no probs thanks for replying

We have needs at OL, CB depth, the flowers signing doesn't nothing to improve or impact the team.

What is the issue you see with CB depth?

I think we are in better shape there than most NFL teams, and most other parts of the roster.

we have Gonzo and the Jones gang (Jack, Jon, and Marcus), Isaiah Bolden, Bryant, the Green Goblin.

Even Mac was trying to get into the action with the scout team the other day. How many CBs do we need?
