Fournette & henderson jr working out for patriots today

Fournette was completely awful running the ball last season. He showed up to camp overweight and was useful for literally week 1 only. He was brutal in short yardage, red zone, and goal line. He's probably on the verge of being out of the league so I don't think we need to be the team to delay it.

And again, Rham has all pro potential, and we already have Strong and Montgomery to spell him as needed.

The Newest Harris will be Rham's backup if he shows enough in camp.

Strong & Monty are competing for the 3rd-Down Back role; neither of them, especially the washed-up has-been Monty, are capable of spelling Rham for any length of time at all.

He makes sense in a similar way to how I talked about Zeke in the other thread. Cook, Zeke and Fournette could all fill that role, but there’s diminishing returns from a talent and wear & tear perspective there. However the price tag will also align at the same time. I would probably try to get Cook if I could, but Fournette or Zeke are fine consolation prizes. Fournette has a smaller ego.

...but is also a much, MUCH worse player than Cook & Eliot are at this stage of their careers.

Out of those two, I'd rather sign Henderson for the non-guaranteed minimum and have him compete with/replace Monty.

Any signing should Not rule us Out of the Cook/Eliot sweepstakes either; we could use the numbers at RB anyway.

My guesses 1)he wants more money and 2)he wants more carries than a guy who would be spelling Rham.

More touches anyway... which still shouldn't be a problem here because of his pass-catching abilities.

Word is we are the betting favorites to land fournette, denzel sims, and mercedes lewis
Lewis might not be a bad pickup. He’s old as dirt (39 years old now!) but they could use a solid blocking TE. He can still get it done.

I'd rather take a chance letting Johnny Lumpkin be the blocking tight end. Some rookie growing pains for sure, but for a few short yardage/goalline snaps a game you can get him to throw his 270 pound frame in the way of someone and probably be fine.

Damn, i was totally kidding i had no idea he was still in the league ! In fact I remember in the 2017 afcc being suprised he was still playing

Question: Do we have 4 backs that we can depend on to produce and to be likely to last the season? Are you ready to count on Strong AND Harris AND Montgomery as running backs?

Belichick thought that we were one short when last year's #2 went elsewhere. He signed Robinson.

We WILL sign another RB. I don't understand your suggestion that we don't need one now, and that we can wait until just before the season starts.

IMO, we have two locks: Rham and Strong. We have 4-5 positions.

Usually 4 roster positions on the 53 and 5 in camp. We didnt draft a RB, which usually means the Pats like Harris and Strong, and since Robinson was released I expect they will sign a 5th body for camp. The RB tryouts this week further indicate BB is looking for a 5th RB to be in camp.

I am not a Montgomery fan, but the Pats seem to like him. Harris and Strong looked good in limited action last year, and they will see a small improvement, or more, in Y2. It would be nice to have a James White type, but I do not see one except for Montgomery - maybe Strong will surprise.

No we don't; just 3, tops.

Strong & Harris maybe... Ty your half-full Monty down, absolutely Not.

I've never suggested any such thing; quite the opposite in fact.

Agree.

This makes sense. And, RB may be the easiest position to pick up a solid veteran because of the % of them that get cut to save on the last years of big contracts.

I'd be happy if we signed Cook or Zeke at the right price. I don't understand how people can't comprehend that Montgomery is going to be key part of this offense. Harris is getting cut due to Strong's potential upside.

"Harris ran a 4.62 in the 40-yard dash and has little make-or-miss ability, but also comes with no ball-security concerns".

Pierre- 10 carries-100 yards- 10 avg.
Harris- 18 carries- 52 yards- 2.9 avg

4 or more to move the chains, he's mediocre at best.

I don’t want to burn out Stevenson. I also don’t think Fournette is the answer. Not a single team is going to worry about Fournette. Elliot or Cook is a different matter IMO.

Fournette catches the ball out of the backfield Elliot not so much. Cook is definitely better but more expensive.

Agree.
I don't think that we disagree much here if I state that we have 4 RB positions. I consider Montgomery to be a special teamer who is a deep backup at other positions. He may get very few reps at WR or RB. That depends on injuries, how Strong and Harris develop, and the role of the 4th RB.

IMO, we need 4 RB's, not counting Montgomery. You seem to agree. For now, Taylor is sitting in that roster spot.
