Very few former players are successful head coaches.Mayo is a leader of men
There would need to be a GM and when the team does not win the HC blames the GM and the GM blames the HC.

I read that was a quote from Kraft in one of the Pats books.Kraft is clamoring for BoB to be the HC? I didn't know that. He should stick to discussing the fine art of hand jobs at this point.
I know that you did not bring up Mayo. Many Homers think that he is the 2nd coming of Vrabel when Mayo has never coached a pee wee football team.I never mentioned Mayo. If I am ruler of the world (which I should be), BB can stay until he wants to leave. Then I'd let him name his successor.
Id rather have a HC with former HC experience.Would you rather they recycle some old coach?
Getting rid of BB shouldn't even be a discussion to anyone who claims they are a patriots fan. Yes a large part of his legacy is tied to Brady rightfully so. However he's rebuilding this team and we need to support him as fans.I genuinely do not understand. I've seen a few people here say this. Yeah, I admit that Belichick needs to win a playoff game again sooner or later but BOB is not going to bring us more success with this team than him.
If we ever get rid of BB, it should be in favor of a younger mind. Not BOB.
6 Super Bowls...yeah he can stay as long as he wants IMO. Another unpopular opinion...BOB is a better choice as HC because his experience. He was a good HC at times..so was Bill with the Browns. I love Mayo...I use a boatload when I make Tuna fish. I think Mayo will be a very good HC but not yet.

He's held a job of HC/GM that hasn't been done since Lombardi.. he's a masterful guy.. real ex patriots not named assante Samuel praise him for shaping and molding them to become the men they are. I'll agree on a young mind..
Vince Wilfork tearfully sung his praises at the patriots hall of fame induction. He's more than a coach he's deeply entrenched in NFL history.
This is why I really want this team to get back on track this season.
People want a change. I think it is interesting how for years Belichick has cut players who weren’t meeting expectations or who were at the end of their careers. But for some reason people believe Belichick should not be treated the same way.
Bottom line is this team has not won a playoff game since 2018. That is nearly half a decade.
I totally agree. I love Belichick and appreciate all he has done but the last 4 years he has been caught unprepared multiple times. They didn't win a SB for ten years but we all knew they were doing the right things. It wasn't the process. Results will vary and involve luck. The process right now is dysfunctional and has been for years.

2019 - the team played without a legitimate tight end because they were unprepared to replace Gronkowski.
2020 - the team signed Cam Newton in June because they were not prepared to replace Brady.
2022 - Patricia as offensive coordinator because they were not prepared to replace McDaniels.
These things should not happen and 20 super bowls in previous years do not excuse them.
Well said.I genuinely do not understand. I've seen a few people here say this. Yeah, I admit that Belichick needs to win a playoff game again sooner or later but BOB is not going to bring us more success with this team than him.

There are plenty examples of NFL coaches who hung around on teams with and without playoff wins.. so I'm trying to put some thought on your question.I have a question. Let’s say roles were reversed and Kraft was Belichick, Belichick was Kraft, do you Belichick would keep Kraft after 4 years without a playoff win?
Who's saying that?
Organizational philosophy is the reason that coaching succession is over emphasized by the media, while succession of the true team leader is ignored. The latter is set, it’s clear Jonathan will be calling the shots that count, including choice of coach whenever Belichick retires.Belichick will retire soon so this question will answer itself BUT I tend to think the media underestimates some of the most important factors in success.
That's organizational philosophy (constructing a roster and deciding where the money goes, how much you want to play backups, etc.) and continuity.
My fear is that the Patriots will become like so many teams that fail at both of these necessities.
I do believe it's possible to ignore both of these and win a Super Bowl, like the Rams did. But I'd rather not become the Rams. With their young "innovative" offensive coach, who 2x now was muzzled in a Super Bowl.
I believe mayo would retain BOB, and I believe Steve Belichick would be the official DC. I believe the players would respond to mayo as he yes is a BB guy, but mayo is his own man has His own ideas, philosophy and vision. I'll say this I believe mayo is the succession plan once BB decides to retire.when the time does come, I do like Mayo, a lot. my one concern with Mayo would be his ability to put together a staff on the offensive side of the ball.
if RK made the decision to make a change after this year, and Mayo was the choice, would BOB stay on to work under Mayo?
