Dhop wound certainly have been the best WR on the team going into camp,, and would have improved the team on the short term at least. But adding him certainly would take snaps away from Thornton, and likely ended the chances either rookie WR from this year make the roster. I really want to see TT develop this year. I still think this is a good WR group, and my gut tells me Super DeMario is gonna be good.

Team better hope he develops this year, cause they absolutely need him to. They’re putting a lot of faith on a player who I’m afraid is soft possibly injury prone.

I'm still leaning towards a cliff for a 31 year old Hopkins. AB clearly wasn't the same after he went to the Bucs at age 32 and he was a very quick WR.

And?? Hopkins taking snaps away would have been a good "problem" to have. The drop-off from having Hopkins to hoping Thornton or 6th round fliers become reliably capable NFL receivers is significant. For that matter the drop-off from Hopkins WR1 to JuJu WR1 is big.

Not really though…it’s July and most teams already blew through their cash. There are a handful of teams who had interest but no realistic offer. That’s why I think this could have been a good opportunity due to such a small bidding market, but the Titans dis the same thing with Julio Jones two years ago and he was indeed cooked, not just coming off a down year/injury.

Yes, correct. This is why we should only compare the home game income taxes. Because the road games rotate and are taxed according to whatever state they play in.

In other words, if we're going to compare Mass. vs. Tenn., we're comparing 6% income tax in Mass over 8 games versus $0 in Tennessee.

Yeah no question the age curve is a big thing but I just don’t get why you’re willing to risk burning 11-12M (I’m guessing) for a potential age wall dud but not 13-14M. Especially for this position because of the upside. They again have a whole bunch of good #2/3 receivers who would be much better for production with the domino effect of an elite #1. I mean, Hopkins, if he’s still close to what he was, would be worth so much more than a guy like JSS or Agholor.

With the Patriots, they won’t draft or trade up for a superstar WR, won’t trade for one (mostly due to high salary), and basically won’t be aggressive at all in any way as they patiently await an opportunity. This sure seems like that risk:reward scenario where you might be getting half price salary for a true #1.

I wasn’t really big on them killing themselves to get Hopkins but this seems like a pretty reasonable salary for the Titans. It’s about half of what the highest paid WR (T Hill) makes.

If Parker and the rest of the vets stay healthy and some combination of young players (Thornton, Douglas, Lee) develop, this will look like a great move.

If not, it will look terrible.

People are seduced by name rather than looking at an ageing receiver who appears to be in decline. He may well bounce back but with Ryan Tannehill as the handbrake, good luck to the Titans and Hopkins.

It’s not just a name. He would be our top receiver and they have more than enough cap space.

It was almost as no risk amazing reward as it gets.

Worst case he busts and have a small dead cap hit next year.

I 100% understand the financial responsibility side and not getting bogged down in bad contracts, but not using cap space is wasting it.

I’ve defended Bill to a ridiculous level because almost every single time he has clear logic behind his moves. But damn he’s even losing me.
