Hopkins Headed to Tennessee

You are assuming patriots offered the same. Jeff howe says our offer wasn't in the ballpark.

If so that's just cheap and unacceptable
If we missed out on Hopkins because we low balled him when he had the money for a better offer then that's piss poor. Teams throughout the conference are making bold moves, and getting better, so if we're not when we have the means to do so then you have to question what the hell they're thinking in Foxboro.

If we didn't have Rham, sure, absolutely. It makes all the sense in the world but I don't see how Cook helps us win more than we already were with Rham, Strong and Harris. Both Strong and Harris looked v good with limited snaps. The position translates the easiest and we've done a great job finding backs in the mid rounds. I just don't see the need or why we'd spend on Cook.
I agree at this point Cook is more of a novelty than a need really

Thinking about the bottom line. If they aren't a superbowl contender they aren't going to spend. Just what it seems now. They have 17 million to play with and haven't even signed all their picks.

The 2018 Pats?
Yeah I'm not getting into it because I'll get accused of derailing the thread but the pinnacle of that postseason came on three consecutive 3rd-10's in OT of the AFCCG. And the game-winning drive in the SB was 67 yards passing and 2 yards rushing through a clear path.

They've already decided they're not a contender?? I can understand that conclusion manifesting itself on this message board but internally with the team, that would be pathetic.

The pinnacle for you, perhaps.

Ok, you're not impressed, I don't see how you're not, but anyway tell me what was the best sequence of that postseason from your POV.

The Pats do not need him.

The WRs that are here today are plenty good - Bourne, Parker and JuJu. 2 more young WRs have an opportunity and need to step up.

Gesicki is going to be an upgrade over Jonnu and Henry needs more targets. I see a big 2023 for Stevenson who had the 2nd most targets on the offense last season.

Plus, the Pats can scour the waiver wire and bring in roster cuts at no risk.
Plenty good? Wow okay.

Of course, and if it comes out that he turned down more money to go to TN then I’ll eat crow - depending on how much he turned down.

It’s very possible he just still doesn’t like BOB and that was the deciding factor and Pats would have to give him a crazy Xander deal to come.

But we all know even $13m was an overpay for a guy that injury prone and BB has a major history of not overpaying.

And that’s fine I guess, but the frustration lies in the fact that we all also knew he was probably going to have to overpay a bit and he has the cap space to do it.

Unless he has some brilliant plans for the remaining cap space, it’s going to be super frustrating watching this team struggle for a 500 record while sitting on so much room.
People are seduced by name rather than looking at an ageing receiver who appears to be in decline. He may well bounce back but with Ryan Tannehill as the handbrake, good luck to the Titans and Hopkins.

Hopkins was on pace for like 1400 yards last year before he got hurt. It's football, players miss games. The idea that he's washed is 100% false though. He would have been our WR1 the moment he signed.

I really wanted Hopkins to sign with the Pats like most of us. But IF these things happen then we won't need him...

- Parker stays healthy and plays well at times like he did in 2022
- Juju is a slight upgrade over Meyers
- Bourne plays like 2021
- Thornton makes a 2nd year jump, stretches the field and doubles his yards to 500.

Bonus: Nixon, Boutte or Douglas play like they belong on the 53.
Not sure why anyone is still talking about Nixon?

I have no faith in Thornton.

I like JuJu, Parker, and Bourne. But there's not a genuine WR1 among them.

Again, I'm harping on this but look at some of the teams in the conference, in the division, and specifically their WR corps. Hill and Waddle in Miami. Diggs and Davis in Buffalo. Wilson and Lazard (and a host of others) in New York. Two of those three teams have elite quarterbacks too and the other has a quarterback with the best passer rating in the NFL.

Our defense will need to be top 5 this season for it to be realistic for our offense to win games averaging low 20's in points.

He was suspended for the first 7 games for drug tests.

Regardless, he would of immediately been number 1.

He's been a disappointment. I'm just pulling names from a hat because we missed out on Hopkins.

IMO it's a mistake to not offer more to Hopkins.

This is true, but I dont understand how it applies here. They have the most cap space over the next 4 years and are at the bottom of the league in amount of cash spending over the next 4 years. I could be misunderstanding the point you’re trying to make, in which case I apologize if thats the case.
All good.

My take is they allocate significant cap space to players but don't follow-though with the payouts for lack of performance on the big ones.

Contracts like Smith and Agholore are examples.

Are fans actually bashing the Pats for cutting their losses?

Hopkins missed the first 6 games due to suspension. He missed the final two weeks with a knee injury but there was some question about the true seriousness of it.

No question about the WR1 in NE part though.

Felgah and M-azzhole have wank material for tomorrow ... Good luck to Hopkins ...
The Titan's forum is funny .... they call it where WR's go to die and/or suck.
