Coincidently I agree.I think what Slater brings as a leader has been just as important to what he’s done on the field.

You just keep repeating the same idiotic generalization. You addressed nothing, you doubled down that you think you know more about special teams and the history of the nfl than bb. Hilarious.
And you apparently think they never won a Super Bowl with Welker on the roster because of him. That's a pretty dumb take. You brought up Welker.
That makes sense .I don’t need to know anything about fantasy football to know your knowledge of the game is limited to it

Pretty bizarre stats, yet he makes the Pro Bowl/All Pro so many times.Slater ST Tackles per game
2022 - 0.71 (57th)... 3rd on the team... apparently Cody Davis and Brenden Schooler are budding HOFers.
2021 - 0.72 (36th)... 2nd on the team (to Davis).
2020 - 0.44 (didn't register in top 100)... Justin Bethel, Cody Davis, and some dude named Dee Virgin made the top 100.
2019 - 0.65 (45th)... tied with Justin Bethel.
2018 - 0.74 (38th)... 2nd on the team (to Nate Ebner).
2017 - 0.75 (35th)... 4th on the team behind Harvey Langi, Trevor Reilly, Nate Ebner.
2016 - 0.50 (96th)... 4th on the team again (Ebner ranked 2nd in NFL).
2015 - 0.83 (29th)... 2nd on the team (to Brandon King).
2014 - 0.93 (23rd)... only had to go back 9 seasons to find one where he even led his own team outright in this category.
Now tell me how Slater's soaking up all of the attention so these other guys can make the tackles lol.
This is the hill PatsFans wants to die on?... Slater the GOAT ST. And I take heat for my Brady takes.
As usual with your complete lack of understanding of anything that can’t be numerically quantified you are 100% wrong about this. Doubt you’ve heard of him, but Steve Tasker has been a HOF finalist and is considered one of the bigger HOF snubs by many HOF voters. Slater is more accomplished then tasker (more probowl/all pros/rings) so has a decent shot at being the first. Slater is a no brainer first ballot Patriot HOF, and rather then go into all the reasons why, which you will ignore and restate your tired and boring bUt hE oNlY mAdE 0.8 tAckLes a gAMe, I’m just going to point out how stupid you look arguing against people who live breath and work in the game. Way more then just BB have called Slater the GOAT ST player.Hall of Fames are for all time great, impactful, and accomplished players. There isn't a primary gunner in the history of the NFL that belongs in the HOF. And the HOF voters agree with me 100%. Trust me, Slater won't be the first. I wouldn't put him in the Patriots HOF (which frankly isn't worth **** anyway absent Wes Welker)
Listen to you... "as usual"... GTFOH. And yes, I've heard of Steve Tasker. He's not in the NFL HOF and he doesn't belong there. But he's a better football player than Slater. The guy actually caught a few passes in his career (51-779-9). Very good ST player as well... more tackles per season and per game than Slater... 7 blocked punts (which actually is a relevant statistic) whereas Slater has only 1. So Tasker is a better football player and a better ST player than Slater but neither should get a whiff of the NFL HOF.As usual with your complete lack of understanding of anything that can’t be numerically quantified you are 100% wrong about this. No, please do, because you'll be the first to try it (with actual impact plays and career highlights). Thus far I only get the 10 pro bowl nods when he wasn't even the best ST player on his own team for most of those seasons and I get Bill said so. The same guy who hired Patricia. Sat Malcolm. Torpedoed the 2015 season with one game-altering dumbass decision after another. Let Brady walk for nothing. Like Bill's never got anything wrong before. Add "Slater is the GOAT" to the pile.Slater is a no brainer first ballot Patriot HOF, and rather then go into all the reasons why
If Steve Tasker hasn't made it, Slater is not going to make it.Listen to you... "as usual"... GTFOH. And yes, I've heard of Steve Tasker. He's not in the NFL HOF and he doesn't belong there. Don't give me the rings nonsense either as it applies to these guys. Although, Tasker actually contributed a 67-yard kickoff return and 5 receptions for 108 yards and a TD in a playoff win. Slater has 22 ST tackles in 25 postseason games and a bunch of 0's everywhere else... not a single significant impact play. Troy Brown in one AFCCG accounted for two ST touchdowns (punt return TD and scoop and lateral to Harris for a TD) which is far more significant than anything Slater every did any game of his entire career. Brown, a skilled returner, added 3 punt return TDs in his career and led the NFL in Y/R in 2001 when he also had 101 receptions for 1199 yards and 5 more TDs. Slater can't hold Brown's jockstrap.
Tasker is the best comparison to Slater. Gunners - they make tackles, or force returners into tackles. Tasker deserves to be in, no doubt. And right after him is Slater. 10 Pro Bowls, 8 All-Pro (with 5 of them First Team). Yes, I am (as are many here) biased on this. That said, if BB had rated him anything but on par with LT on defense or TB on offense, you could look past it. He didn't. This was not a case of "got to respect the aging player who really did his job", this is a mic-drop statement by one of the best to ever roam the sideline. If Steve Tasker hasn't made it, Slater is not going to make it.
Not even relevant to the argument. Returners are completely different from the players who handle contain, make tackles, etc. Shedding blocks and consistently making plays is a skill that clearly goes unnoticed, especially for someone who has done it at both the level and duration he has.
You've watched a lot of football, @captain stone - you know the difference special teams guys make. And what plays are those, exactly? You mean running down-field a lot and watching returners make fair catches or eye-ball kicks into the EZ?
Is giving a nice speech considered "making a play" too?
Here are some highlights (you'll have to watch it on YouTube):And what plays are those, exactly? You mean running down-field a lot and watching returners make fair catches or eye-ball kicks into the EZ?

It's a wonder indeed how this franchise won 3 (should've been 5) championships before the man's arrival...
It seems like some fans feel that Slater belongs in the HOF based solely on the words of Bill. And what plays are those, exactly? You mean running down-field a lot and watching returners make fair catches or eye-ball kicks into the EZ?

I am disappointed Matthew Slater came back for another year. He appeared to lose a step last year. I suspect his best playing days are behind him. But leadership counts. He’s superb on that. Ian is right.
