I would say both as well as it gets him respect/credit from the players. They see him out there hustling and sweating right along with them. He is establishing the buy-in and when they do buy-in they will follow him into war.

Sadly when the games happen there's nothing he can do for them when they're between the white lines. That's what I've been told by other recent head coaches
