The fact that Jones has not been cut already, could mean that the Patriots are not too excited about the 3 CBs they drafted....Gonzo seems like a shoe-in, but I have/had high hopes for the other two since the Patriots are good at finding late round gems at this position.

Agree with the second half of what you said, not sure it indicates their feelings about roster beyond desire for talented depth at such a critical position is always strong.

He hasn't been cut because the NFLPA will jump on the Patriots and scream foul and unfair play. So likely no action will be taken by Kraft until after the trial.

He won't be back in court til right before the season starts, and is out on bail? I'm guessing he just stays with the team and keeps his head down. He'll go to court before the season and see what happens.

Jones' lawyer apparently did not get the above memo....

I don't see them cutting him over this. He's a good to very good player on a very team friendly contract. If, big if, he does time, then they'll cut him loose, and look for cap relief at that time. Until then, like @Ross12 says, it'll be keep your head down and staying out of the media.

For reference - August 18th is the day before their second preseason game (at Green Bay), and just over 3 weeks before Week 1 against Philadelphia. I would not be surprised if they tried to get a small continuance and move the hearing to occur in the ~2 week gap between the final preseason game and the season kickoff to allow him to "work", so to speak.

Likely he’ll be going to jail before the season ends either by plea or conviction.

There’s no sense bringing him into camp risking he gets injured and you end up paying him his 2023 salary. He’ll be released.

Quite honestly, it seems to me that he has a very weak defense. We are only at the arraignment and his counsel has already admitted that there were 2 guns in a bag belonging to Jones.

"He had no intention of bringing any guns into Logan Airport that day" and "I expect that the evidence is going to show he had no knowledge of what was going on” are not exactly the most reassuring alibis....

Whether he's ultimately cut or not in the end, it seems likely he'll end up on the Commissioners exempt list for a period of time while things sort out, no?
