I think 14 each side of the ball, plus ST [P, K, PR, KR]. It adds a layer of strategy to it, do you go 3 extra receivers to be able to go 5 wide? Or add a FB and a 2nd TE to go jumbo? Same thing in the secondary or do you add a 2nd NT for goaline?

As for the time limit it could go quick if everyone is on and doing their picks as quickly as they can. If you are just logging on every 10-20 mins though, 32 rounds times 8 players times 20 mins a pick is 85 hours. That's not reasonable to expect someone on and around to make picks. The only way that works is if everyone has at least 640 players ranked and have some sort of auto pick based on those scores. Also not very reasonable. Not sure what the best way to do it would be but anyway you slice it, it's a big time commitment for a fun mental masterbastion exercise.
I like the 14 per side idea.

Yup exactly my thinking. Just gives it another layer. You go OL or WR or QB2?

I honestly think it'll go a lot quicker than most would think. Big thing is just getting everyone on here at the same time.

Truthfully I probably won't be picking many old timers. Just guys that would succeed in any era.
For me it all depends on what pick I have. #1 I am sprinting Tom Brady up to the podium and making the greatest offense the world has ever seen. #2 I would listen to trades for Joe Montana but probably end up taking him and building a versatile possession style offense but more attention to defense. Pick#3 is IMO where it gets interesting, do you go the real LT, Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, Reggie White? All legit picks in my mind and change the rest of the team I would build based on which one I get.

I agree it needs to be a time everyone is on, with a time limit of like 2 mins, if you have a board with the players you like on it it shouldn’t be that long to pick who you like best. And draft order definitely needs to be snake order otherwise it’s extremely unfair to the last player. Makes a fun question though, would you rather have Brady, or Gronk and Muniz?

Yea this is where the fun is. I don't want to speak too much on strategy but I'm not sure I go QB even if I have the 1st pick. No way I'm taking a RB early. I forgot too many that would gain 1700 yards behind an all-star OL. This is where it gets good though.

Agreed much like a fantasy draft you have a great idea of where you're going bc of your cheatsheet. I think 5 mins would be ok?

Snake 100%

Gronk might be higher than Brady on my board. Even #1 pick worthy. Brady isn't going to have to carry anyone but again this is where it gets interesting.

Wish you were in. We can always do it again. I love dumb stuff like this.

Ok how about ...

1) 14 offense

14 defense

K, P, KR, PR

2) 2 trade limit. Can we set up a group convo to execute it there rather than the thread? Ideas on how to go about that?

3) 5 min time limit for picks.

4)I like the idea of all offense and defense but like the idea of picking anyone better. Maybe 16 and 16 - any player. So two days, 16 each but you can go offense or defense or ST. Think it adds more to the process. Especially if you're picking later.

5)HC or no HC? Imagine getting Brady and Bill with Reggie White and Aaron Donald?

6)I like the idea of constructing a team that can win inside, outside, 80's, 2010's. Is that the criteria? Should we start a poll on who has the best team?

Anything else?

Dude, I know posters like c hammer go way too far up Brady’s rectum to proclaim him gods gift to man kind but anyone other than him as the #1 pick is just…..wrong. He is the winningest player at the most important position ever, to the point he has nearly lapped the competition. The man has been to 10, 10! super bowls. Next closest is 5. look at what he did the few times he had a Moss or Gronk, now imagine an entire offense that good.

Sorry I thought post 11 was clear, but I guess it wasn’t. I’m 100% in and want to play. I also love playing GM and think my team could kick your teams ass.

So I forget where I found this, pro football hall of fame? But I thought it would be a good way to get discussions going about who the best of the best were. The scoring isn’t perfect, but any system that has John Hannah as the best O lineman of all time can’t be too far wrong, right?

ten to fifteen guys picking multiple rounds? this is going to be a deep draft if you want to fill out a roster... better to be prepared than not was my way of thinking

Agreed on many levels but the difference between Brady and Manning, Young, Montana paired up with multiple HOF isn't that big imo. Others probably feel different but there are 10-12 fantastic QB out there that don't have the gaps like say TE, IDL, SAF etc

Ok so you're in, in? I can count you in? In?

No way. I plan on building a monster squad. I think all will look good. Maybe we can open it up to voting to see what others think.

Actually disagree. He's up there for sure but not over guys like JO, Willie, Walter or even a guy like Martin who's walking into the HOF. Big problem was Hannah and co would "chicken wing" guys bc the weren't able to use the hands or extend their arms. So its hard for me to call him OL1 ever but he's definitely up there.

the nfl allowed the linemen to extend their arms in pass blocking in 1978...

Hannah stands tall in the ranks of offensive linemen... would have no issues making him the first OL pick in the draft... would also consider guys like Larry Allen, Jonathan Ogden, Water Jones, Anthony Munoz, Gene Upshaw, Tony Mandarich etc... geeze this list could go on for a bit, lol...

Yes but his pass pro wasn't nearly as developed as others. Even in the 80's. Having played a good part of his career under the rules. He also weighed 270 soaking wet. Pass protection really didn't develop to the point you saw it translate on the field for a few years.

Yea I couldn't rank him over most this list here if I'm being honest. Too each their own but the era/rules play into someone's ceiling imo.

Did you see @Ice_Ice_Brady thread ranking QBs Awhile back? Actually found it very informative and he clearly put a TON of research into it. His conclusion was basically there is the GOAT, then 2-6 were all pretty close, and 6-12 varied based on what you valued, but there were 3 clear tiers. IMO when it comes to Brady is his ability to rise when the margin for error is so low. If you have super mega HOF talent every where teams, the margin for error is zero, so give me the guy who makes everyone around him better more than anyone else ever has. I’ll grant you there are positions where there are very few truly great prospects like TE, but if you got the GOAT QB you can build a line and go 5 wide not needing a TE. Or have a really good running game and go play action with any of the 2-6 like Unitas or Rodger Staubach.

I guess to sum up I do feel the gap from Brady to anyone else, in the situation you’re putting him in, playing the best of the best everywhere, is as large, if not larger, as any other position. So while you are correct you can get one of 12 legit HOF QBs there just isn’t anyone in Brady’s league.

What I think would be interesting to determine the best squad is to have them “play” each other. During the off season where nothing is going on anyway make a thread, team BCG versus team Pazrul for instance, and each of us write up a one or two paragraph game plan. That way when you play dime defense and I go jumbo with a massive Oline I win TOP and keep your explosive offense on the sideline. Have it as a poll for a week, and let board members vote who would win the game. Play it round robin style, with two losses meaning your team is out of the tournament. Last team standing is the best of all time.

Here is the QB list from the same place. Again i might not agree with every score but it’s at least a place to start

Interesting... I guess I am looking at this project a little bit different... I am trying to eliminate the recency bias... Otherwise what's the point of considering any player besides quite literally one or two guys from the older eras?

Jim Otto was one of the best centers to play the game... But compared to the monsters today, he lacks both size and strength... But relative to his competition he excelled...

This will be an interesting exercise to see how people value the game as a whole, and how it has transitioned over the decades...

WRs man Jerry rice really was a beast, pretty sure that’s the largest gap of any player
