But “rare” first round miss? I don’t know, over a decade, a first round hit seems more rare than a miss

It's not just us.

We just saw across the league that fourteen 2020 first rounders did not get their 5th year options picked up.

This doesn't count the three that were out of the league before the end of their 4th year, and one who died in a car crash, and one not eligible because he was traded before the end of the fourth year (hint: that ain't a good sign) and one who was given an incentive-laden extension to avoid fifth-year guarantees (also not a sign of being a 'hit').

So, overall, only twelve first-rounders picked in 2020 were given fifth year extensions.

Interesting articles:

Not sure why the other Wynn thread was closed.

Oh well...

Dominque easley
Malcolm brown
Isiah wynn
Sony Michael
Nkeal harry
Mac jones
Cole strange

Last two are still works in progress that can go either way. But “rare” first round miss? I don’t know, over a decade, a first round hit seems more rare than a miss

Yep... Gotta go back a decade now (2012) for the last home-run 1st-rounder; and there were two of them that year... It was also the last of a 3-year run of HRs in the 1st round by Bill & Floyd Reese.

Any word on how much $ in his 1 yr deal?

I can't imagine he got what he felt he was entitled to

Got to give Wynn credit though he made a lot of $$$$ for a guy who hasn't done jack squat!

I wanted Calvin Ridley. He was a good player, but he quit on his team so that would've been a bad pick too.

Wynn and Harry were back to back 1st round picks with the worst motivation/horrible attitude's during Bill's tenure. This is odd given some that have worked with Bill say he values character over talent.

Not character Bill values articulate Interviews over real talent: what could have been.

Kids can seem like they have great character while dominating college ball. Sometimes it's a smoke screen or a mask that falls off when their careers don't go as they envisioned.

In fact I think Wynn showed aspects of a good attitude while he still had hope. Once hope left the building, character went right after it.

I'll be you he didn't even get the 10m he was paid by the Patriots to sit on the bench last year.

That tweet did not age well!
Guessing something like 2-3M guaranteed that can become double with incentives.

Patriots 1st round draft picks over the past 10 years (with grade):

Dominique Easley F
Malcolm Brown F
Isaiah Wynn F
Sony Michel C-
N'Keal Harry F
Mac Jones C-
Cole Strange B-

No 1st round pick taken in 2013, 2016, 2017 or 2020. Christian Gonzalez obviously is a TBD.

Easley, Brown, Wynn, Michel and Harry aren't on the team anymore so their grades aren't changing. Easley and Brown aren't in the league anymore. I don't believe Michel has a home currently and he may be looking at an early retirement from the NFL. Harry might be finished too at age 25.

Mac Jones is probably one of the more likely starting quarterbacks in the NFL to be replaced before the end of the 2023 season (presumably by Zappe). I'm not predicting Jones will lose his job, I'm just saying he has higher odds of it than most starting quarterbacks.

There's one conclusion here... the Patriots are terrible at 1st round draft picks.

N'Keal Harry F
D- because if neither AJ Brown nor Deebo Samuel were available, then I might've been on-board too.
Mac Jones C-
INC
Cole Strange B-
D- because 29TH overall
No 1st round pick taken in 2013, 2016, 2017 or 2020.
And the 2nd-round picks taken those first 3 years were Garbage.

Not terrible; just not as good as some would have the others believe.
