PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

It's amazing how many people are so dedicated to dumping on BB, Mac, Kraft, etc. vs. actively rooting for them and the team to do well.
Brady fans who came to the forum during his career here and they do not have enough of an interesting life to leave ...

I don't believe this report. Do I think Belichick is capable of this and would I be shocked? No. However, Bill is in a rough spot right now. He is in no position to trade away his 3rd year QB and have to start over after 3 years of not great results.

That said, I am convinced Mac is not the future and would not be opposed to moving from him. That said I don't want us to become an org that moves too quickly. I normally think you give a rookie QB 3 years.

Kyed confirms with multiple sources of his own that trade talks have happened but NE hasn’t gotten a deal they like yet.
That isn’t what Kyed wrote.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reported Tuesday that Belichick has “shopped Jones to multiple teams during the 2023 offseason.” One source said New England hasn't received an offer for the former Alabama QB that would be worth considering. Florio listed the Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Commanders as potential destinations.

The Pats haven't been good since Brady left and Bill has made questionable decisions like giving huge contracts to busts like Agholar and Jonnu. Then he set the offense back by bringing in Fat Matt and Judge and was egostical/naive in dismissing any questions about Fat Matt not having experience and claiming any good coach can be an OC or DC.

Fact is, if the Pats had been to multiple playoffs and won some playoff games the last few years and the offense took a step forward under Fat Matt, there would be no complaints.

Every fan base ever, complains when the losing kicks in. The losing has been 4 seasons straight, I don't count the most embarrassing and historical worse defensive performance ever in a playoff game in their 1 lone appearance a success.

Wanting success is the reason why fans are critical of Bill the last few years. If he starts winning again the complaints will stop, just like they paused 2 seasons ago until that embarrassing playoff loss against the Bills.

Yes Hurts and Allen both took 3 years. You have to give Mac a 3rd year, especially after the coaching disaster of Y2. But after that if Mac is not good, it will get ugly.

Mac also needs what those qbs were given, a stud 1 WR.

It would help, but the Pats have a lot of options. I think BOB will use Gesicki well. Hopefully Thornton is much better in Y2 with a real OC.

There is a big difference between legitimately well-reasoned criticism and compulsively dumping on players/coach/owner. That's the distinction I draw and the latter has become problematic around here. The usual suspects are pretty obvious.

Plenty of number 2 and 3 options. I’m talking about a clear cut 1, which they clearly don’t have and need.

This was supposed to be a boring offseason where the biggest change was getting a real OC and adding some special teamers. Now we got rumors of interest in trading Mac, which opens up a whole nother can of rumors that will link Lamar, Rodgers (Lily included), Levis, and every available QB on earth to the Pats. This is all taking a wild, wild turn.
Zero chance it was going to be boring after last year.

Understood. Who do you suggest? I love Flowers and JSN, but I don't think either is a #1, maybe a #1 in a few years but only in the short and intermediate areas of the field - neither will threaten all three depths.

I just read every post in this thread to see if anyone came up with a package for Lamar Jackson. Nobody did. Jackson is threatening not to play this year and Stephen A Smith says the situation is unrepairable. Trades aren't of any value unless they "hurt" both sides. The only qb currently on the Ravens roster is Anthony Brown (with Tyler Huntley as a restricted FA). So, Lamar Jackson for Mac Jones and pick number 14 (that would give them 14 and 22) - but I said trades have to hurt - so add in Matthew Judon (ouch). And maybe the Ravens would go for it. With Lamar our running game will be the best in the NFL. The play of the offensive line will improve with Lamar running around and because of the extra time with his running around the TEs and WR will have more time to free themselves - especially JuJu / Thornton / and Gesicki. Then the games will become outscore the opponent rather than hold em to under 24 points cuz the defense will weaken.
IOW give away the store

Kraft is NOT happy with BB.

Kraft regrets letting Brady go. That decision was all BB.
To me it's amazing how so many people seem to think Bill = Pats. Bill is not the Pats, he is the coach and GM.

Wild how the same people were ok with Tom being let go but somehow Bill gets a lifetime contract? Get out with this nonsense.

In a heartbeat! I have seen enough of Mac to be convinced he is not the answer. I would take Lance just because I have not seen much from him and therefore there is potential for a pleasant surprise lol

Mac was very good in Y1 with a good OC. Not sure what more you expected in Y1.

It's more about what I did not see. A QB needs to be a leader, he needs to be confident (Mac is not. He sounds like he has zero confidence when he talks and only seems to say what he thinks people wants him to say). He has no pocket presence. He has zero clutch ability. His arm is not strong enough.

I dont think any of the above will improve enough to ever make him the guy. But as I said I like giving a rookie QB a chance for 1 more year and would be very happy if I am wrong.

Also, I said back months ago when he got benched and the fans cheered, QBs don't come back from that. Mac got a very raw deal last year.

Let's wait until Y3. I agree that Mac's leadership was lacking, but guys can grow up quickly. Fingers crossed.
