PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

The team has really fallen hard since Brady left. What a mess. Makes me think too that Bill just sat there in 2021 settling on whichever "1st round" QB fell to him. Within only two seasons he's decided he doesn't want to end his head coaching career with mediocre Mac. Unlike some fans, Bill clearly is not giving his QB a free pass for the Patricia debacle either. Actually moving on from Mac will allow Bill to shift some of the blame from his horrible decision to the QB. Shrewd move.

I personally like Zappe more than Mac but I'm not sure how far we'll get with his noodle arm.

It's not a shrewd move if Mac does well after he's traded and the Pats continue to struggle. That would cost BB his job. I know many here now hate Mac, but he did set NCAA records for Completion % and QBR as well as setting NFL rookie records. It's quite possible you are giving up on him too soon.

This is really, really odd.

- Kraft has come out publicly and said he expects playoff appearances and wins.
- Bill publicly wouldn't back Mac as the starter.

So if Bill is truly trying to get rid of Mac where does this leave him? 72 years old and trying to start over again with another young QB (Zappe or one we draft) while Kraft has publicly stated that the team needs to win and make the playoffs. Our division is now among the best in the NFL. If this is all true we could be seeing Bill's swan song here. I can't see the Kraft family being happy with how the franchise has floundered since they let Tom leave.

One thing that concerns me about the Kraft-BB relationship. Kraft pulled rank on some of the staff changes (BOB), and then broadcast that fact. Pulling rank is Kraft’s prerogative, but rubbing BB’s face in it publicly may not be the smartest move. And something Kraft had been careful not to do in the past.

Kyed confirms with multiple sources of his own that trade talks have happened but NE hasn’t gotten a deal they like yet.

They should seriously consider lowering the asking price. There's plenty of tape on Mac after two seasons and most of it is rather mediocre. At best he offers a moderate floor and a low ceiling. He's Andy Dalton.

This trade pretty much has to happen now, no turning back with the cat out of the bag.

I may be in the minority on this but again I implore the team to take a serious run at Lamar Jackson. I like him even for the long term but the IBWTers should at least be looking at this as one last chance for BB to go out on top.

Possibly, so let’s look at the facts.
1. Fabrication? Maybe, but it’s only a story because BBs handling Of the whole situation.
2. false story? To what end? Also, easily shut down if BB handled The situation better.
3. legitimate? Maybe, if true then a total indictment on BB wasting the #15 draft pick. Mac was not a problem at Alabama.

The common denominator in this teams issues going back to the last 4 years or so is what? Brady’s issues were what? Stop drinking the koolaid, just LISTEN to his responses the media. The a@@hole schtick isn’t aging well.

Not surprisingly, Felger and Mazz ran with the story, as if there was no doubt about its veracity, despite multiple reporters independently casting doubt on the report, using multiple sources.

If you don’t know why sports reporters who rely on clicks in order to gain or maintain relevancy or to increase their sponsor/ad revenue, you haven’t been paying attention during the past 15 years. Look no further than the absurd speculative article about BB potentially moving on to be the HC of the Commanders, once the new owners take charge. It is mind-boggling that someone here felt that trash was worthy of a new thread.

Hunches usually are based on insight drawn from fact/circumstance, which is why I asked. So this appears just to be an idea you're throwing out there.

Thanks for clarifying that you're not against Jones. I got the distinct impression last season that you wanted him gone and felt Zappe should be his replacement.

True, I'm not a Mac fan as I'm very skeptical about his capacity to become a legitimate franchise quarterback. I was willing to give him another chance with a stronger supporting cast (which hasn't been achieved yet), but now with the team having the same level of skepticism, I'm beyond that, it's time to move on from Mac. Now. Ironically Bill probably ruined him with Patricia to such an extent that he's compelled to get rid of him.

Did BB leave Mac jones hung out to dry?

Was Jones justified in 'seeking help' from outside the Patriots coaching staff OR does BB have a legit axe to grind because of this behavior?

Either way, this is either the most fascinating implosion of the off-season or we're about to see some fireworks and big new moves in terms of New England's QB position.
