PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

If BB wants to trade Mac Jones, it's gonna happen whether you're a Mac backer or not.

We're just fans here. BB wears the GM cap.

My question is... will we even get a 2nd rounder back for Mac Jones? That's the price BB got when he shopped Jimmy Garappolo to the 49ers back in the day.
Based off last year we'd be lucky to get a Third he played like a journeyman QB.

I have to say that if this report is true (which I am not buying) and Bill trades Jones away, he will be fired if one of two things happen next season - Jones becomes a top 10 QB or the Pats totally miss the playoffs with a losing record. The former can happen and Bill can save his job if he gets a QB who brings the Patriots to the playoffs and wins at least one, probably two playoff games.

One thing is for sure is that if he trades away Jones two seasons after drafting him with the 15th pick, he will definitely be one of the head coaches on the hottest of hot seats.
If it's any comfort, I doubt Jones will become a top 10 QB. BB's job is pretty darn safe.

And most likely if he dumps Jones, BB will either go for a veteran QB like Lamar Jackson or draft a new one, in which case he automatically buys himself at least another 2 years for QB development.

I would not be surprised if Zippy wins the starting job this year.
Zappe wouldn't fair much better then Mac in his second season. Bill will be fired before he realizes he just can't roll out there with any scrub QB and win. He absolutely underestimated what Brady meant to the Patriots and how great a QB he really was.

BB is a Great DC imagine him saying in his head I could scheme with my eyes closed against a QB like Mac Jones it's a reality.

I'm on the "BB should retire or be fired" train.

I can't believe some of you guys are buying this crap, if he wanted Mac gone, he'd be gone. This is more gosspip from the Pat haters hitting them while they're down and you guys are buying it.

Wow Mac won the job already? I missed the whole Offseason - Combine - Draft and Training camp.

You think there is going to be a QB competition going into camp? I don't. At least not at the start of training camp. It is Mac's job unless Zappe shows a huge jump in his second year. I think other than something freak happening, Jones has the starting job locked up unless he plays so bad to lose it or Zappe exceeds expectations by a whole bunch in training camp or the preseason.

I think he can be and will be if he is in the right system and right weapons.

In this case where there is smoke there is fire. After the McCourty interview about Steve Belichick I believe most of what I read these days. The hiring of Patricia and Judge alone says enough. The team has become an absolute mess. Apparently Kraft thinks the same as he was noncommittal to Belichick during his interview with the losses piling up.

Disaster. Total disaster. If I’m Jones, get me outta here. What’s sh@t show.
BB bootlickers go ahead and flame but this is allll on him.
You have absolutely no clue if the Florio story is actually true but sure, you be you. You and your ilk aren’t concerned with reality or reliability of the author/story. You only care if a story fits your negative agenda and allows you to go full ****** with posts like the above.

You don’t think other teams are capable of planting fake stories to media members in order to sew fresh controversy/distrust within a rival organization? Most web/TV-based media members are frothing at the mouth to post fresh material and have no interest in checking with other sources, in order to verify the story, before posting it on the web.

This is a single sourced story, and apparently the source is so close to the situation that he/she doesn’t even know for sure which teams have been contacted….riiiiiiiight.

In my opinion, here are the three most likely scenarios:

1. Total fabrication by Florio.
2. False story planted by another organization or an individual with an ax to grind with the Bill/Patriots.
3. Legitimate/true information, albeit incomplete.

I used to be gullible once too. Then I looked at how many of these stories from "accredited sources" turned out to be false, and how rarely anyone in the media admitted they reported falsehoods, and how little the readers seemed to notice or care how often the media reported falsehoods.

PS: Don't believe everything everyone sends you in email either!
There's a lot of ground between the extremes of gullible and outright dismissive.

I will say this Rob: I feel if BB see's a QB who he thinks have potential I think he pulls the trigger in the Second for that player. Mac won't be easy to beat out even the casual fan knows that.

The only reason I could believe this to be true is because Belichick has been making a lot of questionable decisions in recent years that would get any other coach fired. Trading away Jones especially after he did everything possible to make Jones fail last year would do that.

Reports are that Kraft still believes in Jones. So if Belichick trades away Jones, Kraft will demand that this team is far better than it was last year with a new QB or Kraft could be done with Belichick.

We're in a new era where patience is the biggest thing you need to have and one thing we've learned since the "reboot" is people don't have any. Whether it's Mac, or the next guy, or the next guy after that, catching lightning in a bottle is a once-in-a-generation occurrence, it's not normal. Like, at all.

Needless to say, you have to at least be patient with who you have until you're absolutely positive you've got a better alternative.

Everyone kicked Mac to the curb after just three games in the kid's second season. That kind of patience generally doesn't work out too well, and the odds of getting back to a championship level fade each time change is made.

I love that people love the poetic parallel of Zappe and Brady, but it's not realistic. If it happens, obviously, great, but that's a lot of pressure to put on a kid who has really only had two NFL starts and could have seized the role that night in relief against Chicago but didn't. That was sort of his moment since, had they lit the Bears up from there given how he started, it would have been tough for Belichick to pull him moving forward. Instead, it, didn't work out that way.

So I guess we'll see. But either way, even if Zappe ultimately wins out, people are going to need to show him the same patience and not kick him aside the first time he struggles. We're in for a tough stretch until someone proves they can pilot this team consistently year-in-and-year out over 17 games. But once that happens, people need to buy in and not constantly be looking for the next guy because whoever it is isn't Brady, Mahomes, or whoever. We just need someone who can complete passes, move the chains, and score points.

Even if it's not pretty, try and give whoever that is the patience they need in a league that, as many have pointed out, is tough to win in. Othewise, we're going to be in for a long stretch as they start cycling through quarterbacks and people definitely aren't going to be happy if that's the direction we start heading in.

If Belichick believed Zappe was that guy, he would have stuck with Zappe after the Bears' fiasco. If he believed in Zappe, he would have put him in when the Pats had nothing to play for at the end of the season just to see what he had for next year.

Right so any report you don’t like means it’s all a lie. Good to know.
Wow. Great to see that you've resorted the the "NEM" standard of pulling s**t that wasn't remotely said out of your ***.

It has zero to do with like and everything to do with being completely fabricated. Try paying attention.

I am sure a Rookie QB is on the Menu I'm hoping Hendon Hooker he would win the job easily in TC if healthy yeah he's that good already.

EXACTLY my same thoughts.
