NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Official 2023 Free Agency Thread

This is the price theses type of players command now.

Bill can't continue to go bargain basement shopping to save money while the rest of the AFC east loads up.

Yup, what people think they they’re worth doesn’t matter one bit, the market sets their value and if Bill refuses to adjust to the market then well you end up with a roster that is average.

Pats have massive cap space, next year around 160-170 million. Would have liked one of the top tackles available, teams overpay in free agency, if you aren’t willing to do so as well you end up with a lackluster roster in terms of talent.

Just so we’re clear, I wanted Edmunds but yeah that’s too much for a position NE doesn’t have a gaping hole at.

I wanted Edmunds, but at a record setting contract for ILB, he might be too much of a risk. He sucked in coverage until last year and it is always a risk to overpay for a guy who pops in his contract year.

Yeah I agree would have been nice but not at that price. He’s making as much as Roquan who the Bears just traded, who was also better.

It is possible that in addition or instead of contract value being low that some of these free agents simply prefer to go to other teams....for reasons we have discussed including:

2023 team roster not strong
climate
taxachusetts for millionaires
BB reputation

So, it may just be that the UFA prefer other teams

I agree.

You're criticizing Bill for not giving the highest contract in history for a linebacker who can't make the Pro Bowl.

Belichick gave the highest contract in NFL history to a CB -- Stephon Gilmore -- who was an All-Pro. He's not afraid to give top contracts.

What are we doing here people? Complaining about not signing a merely good player to the top contract at his position?

When did I do that? I specifically said no to that contract. Not sure where you got that from, he isn’t worth 18 at a position that’s not a big need.

No not the highest contract and it takes two to tango.
But the O line dwindling in front of our eyes is painful to watch.

Ah yes ... the infamous Ben Franklin once said in a letter:

"Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises
permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes
and some Patriots fans complaining in the Patsfans.com forum at the start of free agency"..

Quite the exaggeration there Roc.. 2 Fumbles on the season. 4 penalties. 2 of which came against Detroit and 1 was declined. One was a false start. The other was them claiming Bourne was lined up illegally.
Trouble is, most of them happened the first thing when he'd get put back on the field. And lining up illegally is on him and is pretty bad.

Giving McGlinchey the contract Denver did would’ve been more painful.

Chargers signing LB Kendrick’s formally of Minnesota
