Obviously, I've been following some threads and I'm working on a couple of things that I came up with recently that I'm planning on implementing for the sake of making things a little more tolerable here.

I'm currently working on a single-post mute, along with a conversation mute. Here's essentially how those will go:

Single Post Mute - Pretty self-explanatory. If there's a post with something you don't want to see, this will allow you to hide it and remove it from appearing in the thread.

Conversation Mute - This one, I think, should be a big help, as this is meant to address the people who seem to go at it in the middle of a thread.

You'll just need to click on a post that has one of the people quoting the other one, and then any further interactions between the two will be hidden. However, if one of those people continues to post about the topic with others, their posts will be visible.

So as an example, say Member A gets into it with Member B, and they start arguing. You just click on an interaction where one of the two quoted the other, and their bickering at each other will vanish.

However, if Member A or Member B replies as normal to the thread, you'll be able to see it. Same goes for if either of those people replies to you, you'll be able to see it. You just won't have to see the two argue any further.

This eliminates having to do two full mutes and missing any posts, in the event one - or both - are normally people whose posts are ones you're good with reading.

The one catch is that this will expire after three days and like the others will be thread-specific. If they start going at it in another thread, you'll make one click and their interactions will cease to be viewable in the next thread.

I've made some progress on these the last couple of nights but wanted to let you guys know that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and that what's been going on here recently certainly isn't lost on me. So hopefully, these two additions, especially the second one, will make life a little better for people in here as we get closer to free agency, the draft, etc.

And as always, any other thoughts, suggestions, are definitely appreciated.

I know some will question whether or not this can't just be done by mods and in theory, I could make it where the interaction between the two would be muted as a mod function. But I felt like giving people the option to make their own decisions on that made more sense in case there are some who fall into this category:

or are you just being your usual overly pleasant self?
Just once, wouldn't it be nice to let your inner ******* run free?

I'll see if that works as intended the next time there's an anti-brady/brady back-and-forth....

LOL, I think it's been a minute since @Jlaff has PM'd me. But hopefully, that's not the case ;)

OFC it has. What would you expect after how vicious you were the last time?

Anything done by humans doesn't scale.

Also all those people who have a giant (mumble) about censorship will be happy. They can say whatever they want, we can just turn them off if we choose and go on with our lives. They won't feel like "the man" is sticking it to them. Seems like a great solution to me. Seems like you should see if the forum software vendor will take on some of these features in the future.

Now, can we install "thread mute" on various family members? Even better, Twitter's "mute words"? It mutes any tweet with a given word in it. I'd love it if I could apply that to the utterances of certain extended family members.

This definitely eliminates that argument, or at least I hope so. Albeit there will never be zero moderation here, but I'm trying to at least give people more control over the level of what they do/don't want to see here and solve some of the problems people are frustrated with. With it being just Ross and I, I'm trying to make life a little easier on our end as well since we both obviously have jobs, families, etc. also. Hopefully, it will work well enough that it will improve things for people here, so we'll see how it goes ;)

Leaving it up to each individual's preferences is the way to go. Plus, there is an unintended (bot to me, funny) consequence. When you mute a specific poster in a thread, then all instances of their posts are gone for you - including quotes (used to say You're ignoring this member, but the quote space was still there). Now it looks like a responder is pulling an Abe Simpson, yelling at the clouds ... :D.

Seriously? How many options do you need to implement for mutes and ignores? Why can't people just skip over something, like a single post for Christ's sake, and move on to next post. I've been here off and on for many years and not once have I used a mute or ignore button. To each his own I guess.
