PHI traded a mid 1st and a 4th for AJ Brown. They signed him to a contract for $25M a year, with $57M guaranteed.

How many other coaches would do something so outrageous?

What would we say if Belichick traded a 1st and 4th for a top WR and signed him to a such a contract?
==========
was Brown even a top 10 WR before 2022. I certainly agree that he was a fine WR, but not in the same class as Cupp or Chase coming out of 2021.

I’m all for doing that with Tee Higgins.

Jalen Hurts is on his rookie contract, he got paid 1.2 million dollars this season, he is entering the last year of his deal.

The best time to improve your team dramatically is when you have your QB and are paying him like a rookie.

second round pick, so no fifth year option... hes going to get real expensive real fast

It is too much money for a wr. Small injuries affect their performance greatly.

Agreed, they can do what the Chiefs did with Mahomes though. Pay him his massive deal but kick that cap can down the road and not start paying that big cap hit until years 2-3 of the deal to give themselves a bigger window now.

PHI also hired a coach for 2 weeks to help play against the KC defensive schemes.

PHI scored 35 points so I would say it worked out OK.
Huh?

Maybe they should have been focused on stopping the KC offense, no? The iggle offense scored 30+ points 8 times this season... Twice in the playoffs leading up to the super bowl...

Not exactly what I would consider a chess vs checkers move... Ymmv of course...

It worked out very well. They would have scored far more if they'd won the brain fart war (fumble, bad punt, and no significant KC unforced errors.)

They should have hired a guy to help vs the KC offense.

WRs wide open walking in for TDs. Why cant any team stop Kelce? WTF

They made it to the Super Bowl and Brown was a huge reason why with 1496 yards and 11 TDs.

Who cares about pre 2022? Its about what the player will do on your team tomorrow in your system. Brown was stuck playing with Tannehill.

Key words would have...

Maybe if the defense had a boost they could have forced an error or two?

In the end, they lost. Philly played their typical game... I doubt there would be any difference in their O if Fangio wasn't there

As I said ymmv... Think it's a great strategy to bring in someone new two weeks prior to the game? To me that's telling the team that you think the coaching staff is weak...

In my book, that's an unneeded voice... You earned the right to be there. Trust in your staff that got you there... sends a much more powerful message than sending up an SOS two weeks prior to the biggest game of the year

This thread is FAIL.

The Eagles brass are brilliant. They will pay Brown bargain basement money for the next 2 seasons. Browns big money does not increase until 2025 and the final year of his contract has 30 million in salary that he may never see. The Eagles will have the option to cut Brown or convert the 30 million in salary into signing bonus.

Meanwhile, checker players on the Patriots are paying each of the Dynamic Duo - Jonnu and Henry - basically the same amount in new money as a weapon like AJ Brown will earn in 2023.

But to actually do an apples to apples analysis that works, SOMEBODY has to play TE and get paid something to do it.

So in the end, none of the WR trades mattered. The Chiefs probably would have won the Super Bowl with Hill, and they did win without him. The Eagles did not win the Super Bowl with Brown, and would not have won without him.

I am trying to figure out the point of this thread? Does OP think it was a good or bad deal for Brown? I would have made that same deal 10x over.
