Pre-Free Agency 2023

The issues Hops had with BoB were all contract related....

Hops has been paid.

He and BoB would hit it off just fine in Foxborough for a season at least.... make no mistake...the Pats ain't giving Hops another massive contract...he would be an one year rental...perhaps a small bump in pay in the form of an upfront signing bonus...but that's it, IMO.
The fact that BB absolutely oozes over hop.. I'd say he's given a 2 yr deal.. of course he'd have to agree to a contract restructuring of course.. but the guys still a heck of a talent.. deceptive speed, excellent catch radius, sets up defenders, run after the catch ability, physical, fights for the ball.. everything aghlor isn't

you think the donks would trade him? Payton knows the value of a good receiver im thinking... free agency is out best shot at him, if BB would be willing to pay the associated price...
I think the thought process there is that they’re not going to get any trade value for the guaranteed salaries of Sutton (all $14M guaranteed) and Patrick ($5.5M guaranteed of the total $8M). There’s only one opportunity to turn their relative surplus of WRs (if everybody is healthy, which has been a problem lately) into help at another position, and that’s trading Jeudy.

I'm sure Jimmy G. would do a good job getting the ball to our receivers for the 3-4 games he's healthy every season. The cost to sign him would probably prevent the Pats from signing the receiver they need. QBs are expensive in free agency.

I'd rather see if BoB can help Mac, and I think Zappe deserves to be at least a number two QB on the depth chart after what he did last year. Roster construction wise a QB on a rookie contract is the way to go imo. I wouldn't be shocked if they drafted another QB this year as well.
During the Brady years for the most part we had very competitive Rosters...we haven't had that since Brady left. That's why I would love Jimmy G here at a not too expensive price to push Mac Jones to see what he's got. I want Mac looking over his shoulders it would be foolish to just hand him the Starting QB job without any real competition...of course some would love that not me.

I think that spending free agent money on Jimmy G. makes the rest of the roster less competitive. I also don't think he will come at a not too expensive price. I'd expect Jimmy G to cost at least 15-20 MM per, but sure I'd have interest in him at 5-10.

Zappe in his second year is real competition imo.

I still feel Parker does have some value to this offense, he just isn't a WR1 he's more of a contested catch guy.. he's 6"3 definitely athletic, injuries have slowed his career.. but let him compete in camp.. I feel like obtain as much talent at the position as we can and that makes for a dam competive training camp!
Good Morning Cousins,
Started off this sunny Tuesday with O.J., a nice hot cup of Java with peppermint mocha sweetener and a nice moist large mocha fudge muffin heated with a bit of butter.(I hope my Cardiologist isn't a member of the forum)

I would like to keep Parker. He seemed enthused to be here. One more year in the system and if he is healthy he is a legitimate Red Zone threat. Thornton had flashes but many of us had other WR pegged higher in last years Draft. Pickens Pierce and Skyy Moore were all better choices with Picken at 52 Catches and 4 TDs on a bad QB Steeler Team.

Love to keep Meyers but......
I can't see us paying $16mm for Meyers . Someone like the Bears , The Falcons or the Giants who all need dependable wide outs could throw that at him.

So who is a reasonable replacement to take his place. Allen . Negatives? 4 years older than Meyers. Positives? Bigger. Speed? About the same. Both have had injuries this last year. I believe Allen will cost less this year if the Chargers cut him. But knowing the system and your QB like Meyers does, is a positive for him. Both are reliable.

Now lets talk about the lack of Blue Chip players that the Pats do NOT have. Do you game plan for Meyers? No. Where do we get some?Is Allen a Blue Chip player? Border line but age is an issue. He is 30. How old was Randy Moss when traded to the Pats?.....30.

Adam Thielen anyone? He was on the block in 2022. Here is your Blue Chipper. The Vikes are in CAP hell. He's a $15mm guy at 32. Ehhh...........

Want Blue Chip? I said this before ........Alvin Kamara at ....slot WR like Deebo. Not a RB. Let him take a few carries like Deebo and McCafferey.

The Teams have to game plan for him. I imagine BOB would love this Offensive device. He will be cheaper than Meyers the next two years. Was second on the Saints in Receiving and only 27.

So your WR corps could be Keenan Allen, Parker, Thronton, Borne and Kamara in the slot.

Now pick up an OT. Donavan Smith of TB is still young and on the Trade Block for CAP reasons. Not a great 2022 so you can buy low. Then a Typicla BB move . ERFA OT Blake Brandel from the Vikes. Very under the radar signing but graded out great. Resign OT Conor McDermott and hope Klemm can get the most of Trent Brown. Put Trent back at RT and Smith at LT. There is your Tackle group. Fairly solid.

One more hole to fill LB Dru Tranquill from the Bolts. 4.57 40, 37.5 jumps. 3.57 GPA at Notre Dame and can cover and play ST.
Your speed cover guy. Smart. 145 Tackles last year. 5 sacks and 4 PD with an INT.6'2" and 232.

Thoughts? Threats?

Excellent, excellent material... I'd like to keep Myers though.. his catching abilities, he route running abilities it's just so valuable to the offense... just us having a real OC to set up game plans, and attack offenses.. also the back field is younger.. strong and harris with rham.

On defense adding tranquil would be nice.. I'd say draft another D tackle for depth. barmore is a beast, but won't play a full season , guy is getting up there, godcheaxu plays alot of the snaps.. also we definitely, definitely need to be looking at that press man corner...

These guys will all be a big reach at 14. We don't draft this high hardly ever. Last time was 2010.

If we reach when we have a chance at draftng the kind of impact players who always go in the top 15, it will be a huge opportunity lost.

When we've drafted high in the past, we ended up with Seymour, McGinest, Mayo. Which is invaluable compared to a #2 WR.
WR's Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson both went 10th and 11th respectively in last year Draft. So #14 is not far fetched for a WR in 2023.

I would rather have a big bodied defense guy or a cornerstone OT at 14. Or hell, if there's a true blocking/catching TE, I could be talked into that.

they happen to need a TE named Smith by any chance?

I would love Two OT's who can swing or push for Starter by the end of year. History have shown that Trent Brown responds to good Coaching so with Klemm on board he should give 100% this time around. We need better than Cajuste who cant stay healthy and McDermott as back-ups.

I never said #14 is too high for a receiver.

I said #14 is too high for the slot/2nd receivers you listed.

Glass just couldn't stay healthy.. good QB as we once had him.. but just oft injured.. if he stayed here to succeed Brady we'd never see him he'd be on IR most of the time.. I say Mac, Zapp and a camp body QB will all be in competition.. I feel Mac has the leg up.. however healthy competition is good for all the qbs..

I honestly feel smith could possibly be trade bait this off season.. what do u think.
I think Jonnus contract is too big for his production for some team to trade for him... So I think he stays... Maybe if BoB gets something out of him, 2024, depending on the available free agent class

Yes, that's true... at some point something has to give.. even getting a 600 yard season out of him is at least something! The frustrating part is he has talent, atheletism and they say he's a pretty cerebral player.. Hopefully as u stated BOB can feature him..

Dakota Randall from NESN has a nice piece on why patriots should pursue Ramsey... just thought I'd mention that.. I do feel Ramsey will become available..
